Hello, It is not safe for you to give your father alcohol deaddiction medicine. This should be prescribed by the doctor after he has seen your father and examined him. The dose would depend on the amount of alcohol he is consuming, the type of alcohol and since long he is consuming alcohol. Further, some of these medicines may have side effects and it is important for your father/family to be aware of the possible side effects so that you could seek help incase he gets those side effects. Also the doctor can motivate your father to give up alcohol. He may also be given some motivational therapy/behavioural therapy so that he can abstain from alcohol once the course of medicines is completed. So kindly take him to a doctor who deals with deaddictions. Hope this helps you. Wishing you and your family all the best. Thank you.

Sir I am with 46 year. Last 4 year I have diabetes. When check blood report my triglyceride level 700. What is your advise?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Hello from the data it is uncertain whether your blood sugar is under control or not. Triglyceride level is too high it can lead to pancreatitis, hence start immediately on atorvastatin plus fenofibrate tablets. Simultaneously you have to have strict blood sugar control. Also inform about hba1c level.

Diabetes is a condition where your body is starving and the energy from foods is not reaching the cells. For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - have small frequent meals. Do not fast for more than 2-3 hours. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Exercise and stay active. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.

My father's uric acid level is high. How should control level of uric acid? please give some suggestion uric acid related. than.

M.D.(HOMOEOPATHY), C.S.D.(MUMBAI), BHMS
Homeopath, Bareilly
Most of the time, a high uric acid level occurs when your kidneys don't eliminate uric acid efficiently. Things that may cause this slow-down in the removal of uric acid include rich foods, being overweight, having diabetes, taking certain diuretics (sometimes called water pills) and drinking too much alcohol. Other less common causes are a diet high in purine-containing items or your body producing too much uric acid. Factors that may cause a high uric acid level in your blood include: Diuretic medications (water pills) Drinking too much alcohol Genetics (inherited tendencies) Hypothyroidism Immune-suppressing drugs Niacin, or vitamin B-3 Obesity Psoriasis Purine-rich diet — liver, game meat, anchovies, sardines, gravy, dried beans and peas, mushrooms, and other foods Renal insufficiency — inability of the kidneys to filter waste Tumor lysis syndrome — a rapid release of cells into the blood caused by certain cancers or by chemotherapy for those cancers Also, you may be monitored for high uric acid levels when undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer. Foods that are high in purine include: All organ meats (such as liver), meat extracts and gravy Yeasts, and yeast extracts (such as beer, and alcoholic beverages) Asparagus, spinach, beans, peas, lentils, oatmeal, cauliflower and mushrooms Foods that are low in purine include: Refined cereals - breads, pasta, flour, tapioca, cakes Milk and milk products, eggs Lettuce, tomatoes, green vegetables Cream soups without meat stock Water, fruit juice, carbonated drinks Peanut butter, fruits and nuts Keep well hydrated, drinking 2 to 3 liters of water per day, unless you were told otherwise. Take all of your medications for hyperuricemia as directed Avoid caffeine and alcohol, as these can contribute to problems with uric acid and hyperuricemia. Avoid medications, such as thiazide diuretics (hydrochlortiazide), and loop diuretics (such as furosemide or Lasix®). Also, drugs such as niacin, and low doses of aspirin (less than 3 grams per day) can aggravate uric acid levels. Do not take these medications, or aspirin unless a healthcare provider who knows your condition told you. If you experience symptoms or side effects, especially if severe, be sure to discuss them with your health care team. They can prescribe medications and/or offer other suggestions that are effective in managing such problems. So its better you go for homoeopathic treatment.

Dear , since you are suffering from hypothyroidism for a long time I assume that you are taking your thyroid medications regularly. But you have not mentioned whether your blood hormone levels are remaining within normal range. For weight loss, you need to consult a dietician and follow a stricter regime rather than going in for an aggressive exercise programme.

Your mom seems to have some disease pathology involving back of the eye. Either her retina or optic nerve. Since she has been advised an intra-ocular injection, it is likely she has some disease affecting her retinal blood vessels. The visual recovery depends upon the status of the central retina- known as macula. This is best evaluated by a test called the oct and a retinal or fundus angiography. I will be better able to help if you can share her reports. Also important is to find thee systemic cause in the body which predisposed to the eye disease. It can be hight sugar. Hight blood pressure. High cholesterol or triglycerides in body. Kidney dysfunction etc. A examination by physician is hence also important.

High tsh levels as in your case indicate hypothyroidism. It is a condition where the thyroid gland is being pushed and stimulated by the pituitary gland in the brain to secrete more t3 and t4 levels. In a scenario where only tsh is raised and t3 and t4 levels are normal, it means the disorder has only started and not peaked. But if you ask why is the brain pushing the gland to more, you will realise that the gland must be functioning less and hence the push required. Choices of treatment are either conventional allopathy which involves lifelong replacement of t3/t4 hormones synthetically, which will normalise the blood levels and hence any further stimulated will not be required and tsh will again go back to normal. But since we are not touching the glands own function in any ways, you can't stop the replacement therapy. The other choice is homeopathy where medicines are aimed to correct and revive optimal functioning of thyroid gland and bring back normal levels of t3/t4 hormone production. Once this is achieved, tsh levels will return back to normal and as also the symptoms. Since we would have correct the problem from the base, lifelong supplementation won't be required. Give it a thought!

My legs veins are visible (or varicose veins) very predominantly, what can be the reasons? I am diabetic age 50 yrs, ...
Varicose veins or visible prominent veins are caused mostly due to prolonged hours of standing during work or due to weakness of the valves. You will require to get a Doppler scan of the legs to check for the severity of the problem. Diabetes and it's symptoms can have a deteriorating effect, but don't have any direct causative role in the varicose veins. Please see a vascular surgeon who is the best equipped to treat you.
