Hi doctor ,I am only 20 years old and have excessive dark circles and this is genetic ,my mom also have dark circles ...
Dark circles are because of lack of nutrients. Sleep and weakness. So take proper nutrients and drink plenty of juices and sleep for atleast 7 hours a day. Drink 7-8 glasses of water every day.

Photoaging - Skin Care

Photoaging - Skin Care

What is photoaging?
Photo aging means premature skin aging caused by repeated exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UV rays) from the sun and artificial UV sources. Prolonged sun exposure accelerates the process of skin aging. The harmful UV rays damage the important proteins of the skin - collagen, elastin, and fibers which are responsible for the youthful skin.
Sunlight is the main source of UV light. Ultraviolet radiation is composed of uva, UVB, and UV rays. Uva rays penetrate the skin deeper, harming the epidermal layer and the dermis, also damaging the collagen and elastin tissues. Thus, uva rays are the culprit behind photoaging, which includes wrinkling, leathery, sagging and other light-induced aging. Uvb rays penetrate the epidermis causing sunburn. The uvc rays have more energy and do not get through our atmosphere. The UV rays damage the DNA of the cells causing mutations, leading to premature aging and skin cancers.
Early signs of photoaging-

  •  depigmentation and appearance of pigmented spots - freckles, lentigines
  •  fine lines around the eyes, mouth and frown lines on forehead
  •  spider veins on the face and neck
  •  loss of lip color and fullness

With continuous exposure to sunlight over the years, there is deepening of the creases and increase in a number of wrinkles. Skin becomes leathery and sags.
How can I prevent photoaging?
Photoaging is a cumulative process that happens over the years.

  •  avoidance of sunlight by staying indoors between 11am-3pm when the sun's UV rays are strongest
  •  sun protective clothing
  •  wear a broad spectrum sunscreen with a minimal SPF of 30 and repeated 2hourly application of the same
  •  sunscreen is to be applied to all the sun exposed areas face, ears, neck, lips, hands

How do I treat the photoaged skin?

  •  antioxidants
  •  retinoid creams
  •  botulinum toxin (btx-a) injections
  •  hyaluronic acid fillers.

Glutathion is a natural anti-oxidant is used for skin whitening mainly by obstructing the enzyme Tyrosinase used to stimulate melanocytes in producing much melanin which causes black color of skin. But even this will have side effects if used for long like liver disorders, allergic reactions etc.

Glutathione is a magic drug in fairness. Go to your nearest dermatologist and cosmetologist and ask him about glutathione. It can be given in creams, or as tablet or injection. It can give your fair skin as early as 6 weeks. Also use a good sunscreen daily and protect yourself from sun exposure as much as possible. It will also make you fair.

What is the quick remedy for dark spot in face.

BHMS
Homeopath,
What is the quick remedy for dark spot in face.
1. Lemon Juice Put some fresh lemon juice on a cotton ball and rub it directly on the affected skin area. Allow it to dry and then wash it off with plain water. Continue applying this dark spot removal home remedy for at least two weeks to get the desired result. If you have delicate or sensitive skin, you can dilute the lemon juice with plain water, rosewater, or honey. You can also use lime juice to get rid of black spots, applying it in the same manner as described above. 2. Butter Milk Take four teaspoons of buttermilk. Add two teaspoons of fresh tomato juice. Mix the two ingredients (both have excellent bleaching properties) and then apply. Wash it off after 15 minutes. The lactic acid in milk too, will gradually reduce skin pigmentation, and brighten and tone your overall skin complexion. So, if you do not have buttermilk, simply apply soak a cotton ball in milk and dab it directly on your spots. Leave it on for about 10 minutes and then wash it off Put milk on a cotton ball and dab it directly on your spots. Repeat this procedure twice daily for four to five weeks. You can also prepare a solution by mixing milk and honey and apply the solution to your dark spots, leaving it on for 10 minutes. 3. Oats Oatmeal powder is considered good for skin exfoliation. Hence, you can apply an oatmeal mask on your face and neck to remove dead skin and black spots. Grind half a cup of rolled oats. Add three to four tablespoons of lemon juice to make a paste. Scrub it on your skin and wash it off with warm water when it dries. If it becomes messy, use a clean cloth soaked in warm water to remove the mask. Follow this treatment once or twice a week. 4. Almonds Take 8-10 almonds and soak them in milk overnight. Peel off the skin and grind the almonds in the morning. Now, add one teaspoon sandalwood powder and half a teaspoon honey in it. Mix them to make a fine paste. Apply it on your face. Leave it on for about 30 minutes and then wash it off. 5. Sandalwood Make a thick paste of sandalwood powder, glycerin and rose water. (If you don?t have rose water, you can use milk or honey.) Apply the thick paste to the affected skin area, leaving it on for a few minutes. Wash off the paste with lukewarm water. Follow this remedy once daily until your black spots vanish completely. 6. Potato Slice up a potato and place one slice directly on the black spots; leave on for a few minutes and then wash your face with lukewarm water. You can also make a face mask by combining grated potato with honey. Some people have also had success using tomatoes to get rid of dark black spots within a few weeks. For medicines and treatment you consult me on private.

Hello lybrate-user, It seems you are referring to post acne scars left behind. There are topical applications which can be used at night which will help you to get rid of those. Also you can take peels treatment from an expert cosmetic physician. Along with all this you can take nutritional anti-oxidant supplements which will help you internally as well. Have lots of water, vegetables and fruits and stay away from oily and spicy food. Have green tea as an anti-oxidant and honey lemon water combination. Follow some form of exercise routine regularly to detoxify your body from within. Also make sure that you take adequate steps for not getting more pimples or else it will get difficult for you to get free from scars as it will be an ongoing process. Hope this helps :)

Side effects of local steroids occur only after systemic absorption if applied on large denuded surfaces. If applied on smaller surfaces, systemic side effects do not occur. Local side effects are local infection which usually does not occur if there ia no per-exiting infection or suitable antibiotic (such as neomycin) is added with it. Another local side effect is thinning and degeneration of skin which occurs only if applied for long times, say, months or years with no gap in between. Sometimes fine acne steroid acne may also appear locally in some individuals on long term application.

Which Moisturizer Will Work Best for Your Skin Type?

DNB, MD, MBBS
Dermatologist, Bangalore
Which Moisturizer Will Work Best for Your Skin Type?

Which moisturiser will work best for your skin type?

Moisturisers are extremely essential during winters for keeping your skin soft and hydrated. The chief function of moisturisers is to ensure that the outermost layer of your skin can hold water to prevent the skin from becoming dry and charred. But, any moisturiser you choose randomly might not be effective for your skin. For making the most of your moisturiser choose one that is suitable for your specific skin type. Read on to find about the correct type of moisturisers required for each skin type.

1. Dry skin

Dry skin becomes even drier during the winters and requires a heavier, oil-based moisturiser with hydrating ingredients to remain soft. Additionally, if your skin is too dry or cracked, using products containing mineral jellies like petroleum jelly will be beneficial. This is because these products are known to minimise evaporation of moisture from your skin.

2. Oily skin

Acne and breakouts mostly occur on the oily skin, so it will be best to choose a light, water-based moisturiser if you have this type of skin. Moreover, try to opt for a product that is non-comedogenic in nature, which will ensure that you do not get clogged pores due to the moisturiser.

3. Normal skin

Normal skin can be characterised by perfect natural oil balance and an even tone. For keeping your skin soft you need to keep this natural balance intact, which can be done by using a water-based product containing lightweight oils or ingredients derived from silicon. Additionally, ensure that your moisturiser gives your skin a light non-greasy feel.

4. Sensitive skin

Sensitive skin is generally prone to skin irritations, itching, redness and rashes. If you have sensitive skin, then look for a moisturiser that contains ingredients known for generating a soothing effect like chamomile or aloe. Moreover, ensure that the product is free from potential allergens like fragrances or dyes and acids to prevent side effects such as skin irritation.

5. Combination skin

Combination skin is the toughest type of skin to maintain. People with this type of skin have an oily t-zone consisting of the nose, chin and forehead along with the cheeks having dry skin. To keep combination skin hydrated you need to use a heavy moisturiser on the cheeks and an oil-free water-based product on the t-zone.

Grandma's tips to common skin problems

BHMS
Homeopath,
Grandma's tips to common skin problems
Natural home-made beauty tips passed on from generations can never go wrong with any skin type. We give you the best tips to fight some very common skin and hair issues.

To get rid of acne
Acne is an everyday problem, especially if you are blessed with oily skin. In order to get rid of them, you could try these face packs.
Turmeric or haldi is known to have many medicinal properties. Being a natural cosmetic, it is also used to beautify skin.
Take turmeric powder (haldi) and add a few drops of water and lemon juice to it.
Apply it on the acne and leave it for 15 minutes before washing it off with cold water.
Fuller’s earth (multani mitti) is another great ingredient to get rid of pimples, dirt and oil from the face.
Mix some rose water in multani mitti and apply it evenly on the face.
Allow it to dry and then wash it off and pat-dry your face.

For glowing skin
For years, mothers and grannies have used besan or gram flour to treat minor skin problems
Besan – good for all skin types, along with other ingredients, adds that perfect glow to your face, here’s how.
Make a pack of gram flour (besan) with turmeric, lemon drops and some milk cream (malai).
Apply this over your face and keep it on for 15-20 minutes
Wash off with tap water and pat dry.
It’s a known fact that orange peels do more good than the orange itself. Another way to add radiance to your skin is by using orange peels with ground pink dal (masoor ki daal)
Add a little honey or curd to orange peels and dal and grind well to make a paste.
Apply this paste on your face and keep it for 20 minutes.
Wash off with tap water and pat dry.

For soft hands and feet
If rough hands and cracked heels bother you, then use bee wax to soothe them. Another good way to soften them is to apply petroleum jelly before you go to sleep and wear socks. Making sugar scrubs also help. Apply on knees, elbows, cuticles, etc. to make them soft.

Hi , Thanks for writing in. Acne scars can be best treated by fractional CO2 laser treatment. It is painless well tolerated and effective. Other methods can be dermaroller treatment, Microdermabrasion, chemical peeling etc. Wound scar can be treated by surgical excision and resuturing. Any aesthetic surgeon or dermatologist would be able to perform these treatments. Cost depends on place and technology used for treatments. Hope this helps.

Kiss leading to sexually transmitted diseases should not be the reason for weight loss and we have to investigate after clinical examination and rashes might be due to urticaria for which you can apply siloderm ointment.

Hello, Hi, Believe me, if you are genuinely happy from inside and taking nutritious, healthy food and daily yoga or some kind of exercises, it will be automatically reflected on your face. Yes, the colour which is inherited from your parents/ ancestors, cannot be changed, but you can try to get glow on your face!! Daily Regime: Apart from these, you do follow CTMP, i.e., cleansing, toning, moisturising and protection (apply liberally sunscreen with SPF-30 – a thick layer of Bakson's Suncare cream may be, 20-30 minutes before going out daily and repeat it's application after every 3-4hrs.) after washing your face daily; use the products as per your skin type. This will change the skin texture and skin tone. In case you do have tanning, apply honey with a dash of lime on your face. Eat right and healthy that too on time, relieve your stress/ tensions, sleep well, stop smoking, as this restricts blood flow to your face and leaves you with a greyish complexion. lead a healthy lifestyle! Apart from this, avoid anger, anxiety, fear which increases stress hormone in the body and subsequently makes your complexion darker! (Hormonal imbalances also plays a major role). If the dull and dark skin tone is due to any underlying ailment or diseases, need to look into the matter. Diet: -Increase your Vitamin C intake (lemon,orange,gooseberry,etc.Fruits/juices, strawberries, sweet peppers, tomatoes, cantaloupe, and green peas). - Eat more Vitamin A (nonfat milk, oysters, and egg yolks, carrots, watermelon, papaya, tomatoes, or other dark colored produce) . If you feel your skin is weak or not tight enough, that usually suggests a lack of Vitamin A. Medicine: You can also use homoeopathic cream - Medicynth's Whitch Hazel daily at night. Home remedies: Apply fresh-squeezed lemon juice to your entire face and neck. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water. After this, rub cucumber slices on your skin to soften and moisturize it. Do this daily or every other day. Another option is squeeze the juice of one-half lemon and mix one to two tablespoons of raw honey in it. Apply it on your face, leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse it off. Make a paste of 'Kasturi Manjal' (wild turmeric) with rose petals, saffron and raw milk which is very effective.
