Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Actually pain at calf/leg region can be due to many reasons, commonly it is muscular in nature but it can also be due to tendons, nerves, blood vessels etc. My advise to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - ice packs application intensively with elevation of your limbs at night - take a short course of anti-inflammatory medication as per your body's suitability - stop your physical activity till pain completely subsides - intensive physical therapy, training and proper muscle conditioning once pain has subsided - slow resumption of physical activities with proper pre activity warm up and stretching of muscles and short increments in duration of physical activity each day as per pain tolerance. - we will get some blood tests for you - serum vitamin d and serum potassium levels, esr and crp once you have all these reports then you can contact me as I can advise you for proper supplementation do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Fan &a/c, deodorant, mosquito repellant, smoke, dust, agarbathi, do yoga, breathing exercises, take tab levocet 5mg once daily at 6 pm, (as it can cause drowsiness, take after work, before going to sleep) for 2 weeks) if not better after 2 weeks, consult e. N. T. Surgeon.

I suppose he has fever for last 3 days and taking paracetamol 125 mg. Since he is not having any other symptoms, fever may be due to viral fever which takes about 4-7 days to go. Give paracetamol 125 mg 6-8 hourly and maintain hydration. If viral is not suspected, consult pediatrician.

Take, simple, breakfast: Poha, phulkas, with vegetables, sandwich ,milk, Lunch & dinner: Rice (white/red/ brown) or, phulkas, or, khichadi (white / brown/broken rice) or oatmeals, chapaties,or Ravi balls,(1000-1300 calories) Liquid: 3/4 litters of water/day or from assorted sources e.g.milk, juice,milk shakes, Vit 'C' -gooseberry, guava,oranges, tomatoes to improve immunity & to prevent constipation, Vit'A' Papaya, sweet potatoes, oranges,to maintain skin & and good vision. Hi, Please follow these tips: Don't get too worried and anxious. Relax well. Avoid drinking coffee or tea after 7 PM, Take hot water bath before going to bed. Have light food and drink a glass of warm milk at night. Listen to soothing music or read some magazines while you are on bed. Keep your mobile in silent mode at night. Do not work on your laptop on the bed or watch TV till late night. Sleep in a dark and silent room. Avoid day sleep.

I am a 19 year old male. I had arthroscopic meniscus repair surgery done on my left meniscus for a buckle handle tear. It's now been 6 months yet there is a grinding sound in that meniscus. Hi !do not worry about the sound or any inability in walking as u use to be earlier because it takes lot of time to come out of iteven after surgery, adhere to physical exercises and be patient.Take care!

High Myopia -18 , any suggestion for laser/lezic or other surgery or continue with contact lenses

Dear lybrate user, for gaining weight take good diet is advisable. But before that your digestive system must good to digest food and elimation of vitamins, minerals etc sholud be used body and ultimately it helps in weight gain. Take more green leafy vegetables, rice, potato, sugar, sweets, fruits, fermented food, ghee, oil, ice cream, clod drinks etc food which contains high calory. Avoid too much physical as well as mental work. Don't supress the natural urges of urine, stool etc. Don't take opposite diet like milk and carrots, milk and sour fruits etc. Manage the stress and anger. It is necessary. Regular yogasana / pranayam / exercise can help you. Take protein rich diet more.

Reading Can Change Your Life!
When was the last time you sat down and read a book from start to finish? Does your daily reading center around Facebook updates or the back of a cereal box? If you haven’t picked up a good book in a while you should! I just recently started reading again for fun and to my surprise there are quite a few benefits to daily reading.

1. Mental Stimulation

Just like we have to exercise the body, we also have to exercise the brain. Reading helps to keep the brain stimulated which can slow the progress of Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Doing puzzles and playing games like chess can be just as helpful as reading.

2. Relieve Stress

Reading is a huge stress reliever. A well-written book can sweep you away into another realm, which will allow your tensions to slip away so you can finally relax.

3. Gain Knowledge

Everything you read fills your head up with more knowledge. You never know what you might come in handy. The more you read the more knowledge you will have to tackle future challenges. The best part is no one can ever take knowledge away from you!

4. Memory and mood

I recently finished the book Wicked, by Gregory Maguire, and there was a lot to remember! Each chapter had new characters, towns, and events to follow. Reading will help improve your memory and every new memory you create forges new brain pathways, which strengthens existing ones. This will help assist your short-term memory and stabilize your mood.

5. Stay Focused

Every day we are pulled in a million different directions. The Internet certainly doesn’t help. I find myself working on schoolwork, checking my email, updating my Facebook, and listening to music all at the same time, while getting distracted by ads in my internet browser. Reading can help improve your focus and concentration. When you read a book, all of your attention is focused on what you are reading. Try reading for 15-20 minutes before work and see if you feel more focused throughout the day.

6. Writing

Having more exposure to well written books can improve your writing skills as well. In the same way we learn by watching others we can learn from reading a good book.

7. Free and Fun!

It’s free! Visit your local library or thrift store to find some good books to read. Libraries rotate their stock so you won’t run out of books to read. There are also many sites that will let you download free e-books. So there isn’t any reason not to start reading for fun!

How many days we can still wait for labour pains after the expected date of delivery? Please advice.
Hi . We can wait upto 1 week after the expected delivery date for labour pains to start on their own but that has some risks involved. Waiting after the dates can result in decreased liquor of the baby, causing stress to baby, which in turn will make the baby pass stool in uterus, if the baby inhales the stool then she will having lung infections, will not cry after birth and may need nicu admission. I usually do not wait beyond 2-3 days after crossing the dates for this very reason. I suggest you visit your doctor and get the baby examined by nst (non stress test) and ultrasound to see for liquor. If both are fine you can wait for 2 days. These tests need to be done alternate day after the expected dates to ensure that the baby is doing well inside. Your doctor will advise the best after seeing the reports. Extension exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times.
