The average levels of hCG in a pregnant woman's blood are: non-pregnant women - less than 5 milli-international units per millilitre (mIU/ml) pregnant women, about 3 weeks after the last menstrual period (LMP) - 5–50 mIU/ml. Pregnant women, about 4 weeks after the LMP - 50–500 mIU/ml. Guideline to Progesterone levels during pregnancy: 1-28 ng/ml Mid Luteal Phase (Average is over 10 for un-medicated cycles and over 15 with medication use) 9-47 ng/ml First trimester. 17-146 ng/ml Second Trimester. So you have to follow the advice YOu seem to OK.

Why does menstruation occur and what could be the reasons for adopting contraceptive method?

Why does menstruation occur and what could be the reasons for adopting contraceptive method?
Every cycle there are hormonal changes to prepare woman for pregnancy. When pregnancy does not occur, lining of uterus is shed off that is menstruation. Contraceptives are to avoid unwanted pregnancy as pregnancy can occur in any cycle if intercourse happens without contraception.

No chance to get pregnant but I will recommend not to have sex during periods as it is unhygienic and strong chances for ladies to have pid or uterine swelling leading to persistent lower abdominal pain due to weak uterus during periods.

Is artificial hymen available and if yes when should we have to go for it just before marriage or sometime before?

MD-Ayurveda, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Sexologist, Haldwani
Is artificial hymen available and if yes when should we have to go for it just before marriage or sometime before?
Hello- Yes it is possible to restore your Hymen by Hymenoplasty Procedure. If hymen restoration is something you’re really looking into, there are three specific procedures you may be asked to choose from: 1) Basic stitching of a recently torn hymen. 2) Typically handled days ahead of the wedding night, there’s the option of creating a bloodless membrane with or without the addition of artificial blood. 3) A more involved procedure that creates an entirely new hymen from the lining of the vagina. This has a longer recovery period although it does include an authentic blood supply. You have to consult a cosmetic surgeon near your for the procedure.

Are You Obese? Know Your Type!

MBBS, DNB (General Medicine)
General Physician, Delhi
Are You Obese? Know Your Type!

An excess amount of fat present in the human body can lead to a chronic condition called obesity. If the amount of fat, which is used to perform multiple functions in the human body, is found in excess (more than 25% in males and 30% in females), it leads to obesity. Besides being a cosmetic concern, obesity is a chronic disease that can lead to other serious ailments such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, gallstones and other similar illnesses. It has a higher rate of relapse rate and is difficult to treat.

Causes

  1. Consumption of more calories than the person burns through various activities throughout the day is the primary cause. Overeating, especially in diets having a majority of fats, is a major cause of obesity.
  2. Obesity can be a result of certain medical conditions such as Cushing’s syndrome (a disorder that develops due to an increased exposure to immense amounts of “cortisol” over an extended period of time), Prader-Willi Syndrome (a birth disorder), hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid gland), polycystic ovary syndrome (enlarged ovaries characterized by tiny cysts on the outside) and other diseases.
  3. Hormonal disorders and genetics may also contribute to obesity. It is observed that the likelihood of being obese increases if the parents are obese. Hormones that facilitate fat regulation in the body are affected by genetics.
  4. Lifestyle choices such as inactive, sedentary lifestyle and consuming an excess amount of fast foods such as high calorie beverages.
  5. Psychological factors do have a role to play in people being obese. Many people overeat as a response to emotions such as stress, sadness, boredom or anger.

Symptoms
A person is generally considered to be obese if his/her BMI (Body Mass Index) is above 30.
1. A person whose BMI is in the range of 30 to 35 is classified under “Type I obese”.
2. A person in the BMI range of 35 to 39 falls under the category of “Type II obesity”.
3. If the BMI of a person is above 40, he/she is considered to be extremely obese.

BMI is usually a reliable method to find out if a person is obese, but in certain instances such as that of a professional bodybuilder, BMI could prove to be inaccurate. Without treatment, obesity can lead to serious health conditions such as:
1. Gallstones
2. Osteoarthritis
3. Sleep Apnea
4. Heart Disease
5. Stroke
6. Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome (characterized by the inability to breathe long or deep enough)
7. Reproductive problems. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a General Physician.

I would like to ask you which is the perfect time to have sex while ovulation I'm trying for baby since 1.5 year it's...
To get pregnant you need to have regular sex i. E. 3-4 times a week. If a women’s menstrual cycle varies from 26days to 31days cycle, The shortest cycle (26days) minus18days=8th day. The longest cycle (31days) minus 10days=21st day Thus, 8th to 21st day of each cycle counting from first day of menstrual period is considered as fertile period.

Can PCOS Affect my Health in the Long Run?

MBBS, DGO, MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MRCOG
Gynaecologist, Delhi
Can PCOS Affect my Health in the Long Run?

Long Term Health Consequences of PCOS

You are at greater risk of developing the following long-term health problems if you have PCOS:

1) Insulin resistance and diabetes

If your blood glucose does not stay normal, this can lead to diabetes. One or two in every ten women with PCOS go on to develop diabetes at some time. If you have PCOS, your risk of developing diabetes is increased further if you:

- Are over 40 years of age
- Have relatives with diabetes
- Developed diabetes during a pregnancy (known as gestational diabetes)
- Are obese (body mass index or BMI over 30).

2) High blood pressure

Women with PCOS tend to have high blood pressure, which may be related to insulin resistance and to being overweight, rather than the PCOS itself. High blood pressure can lead to heart problems and should be treated.

3) Heart disease in later life

Developing heart disease is linked to health conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure. If you have a high cholesterol level you may be advised to take medication (statins) to reduce the risk of heart problems.

4) Cancer

If you have less than three periods in a year), the endometrium (lining of the uterus) can thicken and this may lead to endometrial cancer in a small number of women. There are different ways to protect the lining of the womb using the hormone progesterone. You should visit your doctor if you are having lesser number of periods in a year. She will then prescribe a medicine to help you get the period. PCOS does not increase your chance of breast, cervical or ovarian cancer.

5) Depression and mood swings

The symptoms of PCOS may affect how you see yourself and how you think others see you. It can lower your self-esteem.

6) Snoring and daytime drowsiness

PCOS can lead to fatigue or sleepiness during the day. It is also associated with snoring.
