How to cure migraine?

Certified Diabetes Educator, Registered Dietitian (RD), PGDD, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (B.U.M.S), General Physician
Dietitian/Nutritionist,
migrane can be managed with lifestyle changes and medications, try muscle relaxation exercises. Relaxation may help ease the pain of a migraine headache. Get enough sleep, but don't oversleep. Get an adequate amount of sleep each night. It's best to go to bed and wake up at regular times, as well. Rest and relax. If possible, rest in a dark, quiet room when you feel a headache coming on. Place an ice pack wrapped in a cloth on the back of your neck and apply gentle pressure to painful areas on your scalp. It is very important keep a headache diary. Continue keeping your headache diary even after you see doctor. It will help you learn more about what triggers your migraines and what treatment is most effective. A dose of riboflavin in appropriate dose as prescribed by me, also may prevent migraines or reduce the frequency of headaches. Coenzyme q10 supplements may decrease the frequency of migraines, magnesium supplements may also be used to treat migraines do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

Migraine is a type of relapsing headache. The acute attacks have to fursttreated and then treatments for preventing future relapses and precipitating factors has to be also started. Problems like allergies, sinusitis, sleep irregularities, anxiety, stress, depression etc have to be dealt with as this helps to prevent frequent relapses. Consult a headache specialist and psychiatrist accordingly for treatment. For any assistance thereof you may contact me online.

You have borderline high bp, reduce salt but I am not suggesting a salt free food. Avoid tinned foods as salt is a preservative. Avoid other packed foods also like chips, namkeem, street foods. Use minimum oils for cooking. Eat lots of seasonal vegetables and fruits. Reduce stress by exercise and yoga and meditation. Take a tablet of safe betablocker like metoprolol 25 mg twice daily. Get back here with progress reports only after observations, after 2 weeks. Get back here with reports. You will get more guidance from any of us here on the forum.

Migraine is very difficult to cure, but not impossible. You need to change your lifestyle and also need counseling for tackling mental worries. See if you can get a lifestyle doctor near your place.

Migraine headache is characterised by unilateral pulsating headache associated with nause/vomiting and photophobia / phonophobia. There are triggers for migraine like sun exposure, certain foods or smell, lack of sleep, excess caffeine etc. The triggers are variable for different patients. Your acute attacks are very frequent so you should start preventive medications. For frequent episodes of migraine preventive medications are to be taken by prescription. There are various medicines available for this and if control is not achieved with one medicine another drug is to be added. Don't take painkillers daily for migraine headaches, it's better to take the preventive medicines. Painkillers on long term basis can further aggravate the migraine headache into Medication Overuse Headace (Read my health tips on Medication Overuse Headace) Follow these lifestyle changes to avoid migraine headache 1. I have seizure problem. doctor is confused between ncc or tuberculoma. Its almost 7 months. Please advise.

MBBS,J.R. Neurology
General Physician,
A ct scan or mri of brain with blood test for afb and chest x ray would differentiate the two. Both have 100% cure rates. So you need not worry. You have to be patient though. You can try giving a proper history to your doctor if you haven't yet. You can also go for eitb or elisa. Take care.

I'm unable to sleep deeply since a week. It's like I take naps in the nights. I was tensed for my studies because of the lengthy course when my exam dates weren't published. But now as they are declared, I feel relaxed but still can't sleep. I don't know the reason. My doctor advised me to meet a psychologist, who has given me some medicines and now I am able to sleep properly as well. My query is that will I get habitual to these medicines and depend upon them throughout my life? Or is it okay to take them? Also suggest me what should I do to sleep properly as when I don't, my head start aching badly as I have migraine too. Suggest me some natural stress relievers as I think stress is the reason for my sleeplessness. Also if you find any other reason please let e know.

Dear Aayushi. Your present problem is stress related. Please understand stress. Stress is simply a reaction to a stimulus that disturbs our physical or mental equilibrium. In other words, it's an omnipresent part of life. A stressful event can trigger the “fight-or-flight” response, causing hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol to surge through the body. A little bit of stress, known as “acute stress,” can be exciting—it keeps us active and alert. But long-term, or “chronic stress,” can have detrimental effects on health. You may not be able to control the stressors in your world, but you can alter your reaction to them. Physical exercise, creative activities, deep breathing, being away from the situation for sometime etc can help you tackle the stress. Stress disorder is usually treated with a combination of psychiatric medicines, psychotherapy, life style changes, meditation and exercise. Once you make the necessary amendments in your life with the help of the above said therapies and life style changes, learn how to manage the depressive episodes without medicines and learn to relax, the medicines can be weaned off over a period of one year. There are no side effects for the medicines and if you continue for more than one month, you will be addicted. Please consult a psychologist online or in person for advise, counseling and therapy. Take care.

I am a 30 year old male, I experienced a partial seizure 6 years ago and I'm under medication for the same. I was taking Levipil 500 mg tablets twice a day, my doctor has gradually reduced my dosage to Levipil 250 mg once a day. Now my doctor has stopped medicine. What are the possible side effects I may experience after stopping the medicine? I feel dizzy, loss of control and shivering sometimes are they related to the condition of stopping medicine?

MBBS, MD - General Medicine, DM - Neurology, Fellowship in Stroke
Neurologist, Kolkata
If your doctor has decided to stop the drug, it must be after considering your risk is low for recurrence. Normally we don't see any problem after levipil is withdrawn. But report to your doctor once you are facing them.

MD - Psychiatry, MBBS
Psychiatrist,
Shaking of hands may be due to many causes like due to some neurological problem, alcohol withdrawal state due excessive alcohol use when suddenly you stop consuming or anxiety. At this young age of 23 years alcohol or anxiety should be the main cause. I need further information that since how long you are having this problem, whether you consume alcohol or not, any does any body in your family is having the same problem etc to reach a probable diagnosis.
