Lower Back pain - Why It Is So Common?

Lower Back pain - Why It Is So Common?

According to medical research, it has been found that almost 80 percent of people in this world suffer from lower back pain in their middle ages. In fact, those in the distinct field of orthopaedics or researching with spinal cord and associated problems have time and again said that lower back pain is caused due to various reasons, but no particular reason is usually found. Lower back pain on its own can be caused due to injury or muscle pull. But often it is a symptom of an accompanying health issue.

There are several reasons why a person can suffer from lower back pain. Some of these reasons are explained below.

  1. Body weight: Whenever you stand or sit, the entire body weight is pushed down towards your lower back. This makes your lower back withstand excessive pressure. The accurate amount of pressure would depend on the weight of the body of an individual. Hence, with so much weight concentrated in one area of the human body, it is bound to pain at times.
  2. Exercise: Exercise must be done under supervision. Not all exercises are perfect for every individual. Thus the trainer often customises several exercises depending upon your needs. However, if you try to practice it on your own in the absence of a trainer, then a minute mistake can cause pains in the body like lower back pains.
  3. Injury: Every time you play sports, you are asked to stand or sit in a proper posture to eliminate chances of getting hurt. However, at times, you still get hurt or get involved in an unfortunate accident. In such times, the lower back comes under critical condition and pains are bound to accompany it.
  4. Arthritis: If you suffer from arthritis, then your bones are weak enough to support your body weight. Due to this, the lower back is no longer able to support your body weight the way it used to in the past. This, along with the pain caused by the weakening of the bones, together cause lower back pain in your body. At times they are mild, but at certain times, they can be chronic as well.

These are some of the very common beliefs of why people suffer from lower back pain at least once in their lifetime. If you happen to experience such pains, then it is recommended that you consult your medical practitioner immediately to get it treated. Prolonged pain and negligence towards it can be fatal for your health.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. Simple Knee Exercises would help to strengthen the quadriceps muscle which is the key muscle. Specific knee exercises will also help ie. Keeping a soft ball underneath the knee and you have to keep pressing it. That's the simple exercise which will help you to strengthen the knee. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone.

5 Ways To Reduce Joint Pain And Inflammation

Rule out Allergies

Food allergies can have on those little aches and pains that we often pass off as nothing. I believe the first step in dealing with acute and chronic pain is to rule out allergens as you may likely nip the issue in the bud by doing a very simple allergen test.

Like with any health plan that you may be pursuing, it’s always best to consult your doctor. Many of the foods included in this post may contradict with some medications. So, when you go in for a allergen test, be sure to have a discussion with your health practitioner.

Reduce Inflammatory Foods

Now, if going the route of an allergen test is not something you want to do, you may still want to experiment with foods that are known to be inflammatory. Here are the main culprits: Sugar, Dairy, Gluten, Grains, Trans Fats, Artificial Sweeteners, Starches (in excess) and Alcohol.

Increase Anti-Inflammatory Foods

Foods (like nuts) and fish (like salmon) are loaded with Omega-3s, that will help fight inflammation. Other great sources of anti-inflammatory foods include blueberries, kelp, horseradish, mustard, garlic, onions, watercress, parsley, celery, pickles, lemon and rose-hip tea. And, don’t forget to add more vibrant vegetables into your diet as they are loaded with micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) and antioxidant properties that are essential for building and repairing tissues.

Herbs such as turmeric and ginger are known to be natural pain remedies, so when you’re cooking, be sure to add one or both of these ingredients to your meals. I especially love these two ingredients in smoothies.

Get Moving

It’s a known fact that a lot of joint pain can be a result of stagnation in the muscles and joints. Now, starting to run a 10km is not what I would suggest. In fact, I’m suggesting light weight training, low impact walking, pilates or yoga. These all really help to get your joints in motion and reduce stiffness and pain. Light weight training can also strength the muscles surrounding your affected joint, providing them more support.

Supplements

Normally, I would list off a selection of supplements to help you reduce symptoms of pain and begin the healing process. At the same time, if you are taking medications, there can be certain contradictions that may impede on the effectiveness of the medications. So, again, I encourage you to consult with your medical practitioner.

I would certainly recommend that you start with a high-quality multi-vitamin or mineral supplement especially if your dietary choices haven’t been the best. Now, this doesn’t imply that you should take supplements and then continue to make poor food choices. I don’t personally take a multi-vitamin anymore as I always create a plate that is 75% vibrant, fresh vegetables that provide what I need.

As with any protocol for improving health, you also need to look at your diet and lifestyle to make significant, long term changes. Consider the steps above as great starting points.

Anushka Sharma Suffering From Bulging Disc - Know The Symptoms, Causes And Treatment Of The Condition

Anushka Sharma Suffering From Bulging Disc - Know The Symptoms, Causes And Treatment Of The Condition

One of the most loved Bollywood actresses, Anushka Sharma, has reportedly been diagnosed with bulging disc, more commonly known as a slipped disc or a protruding disc.

As per the media reports, the actress, who has been busy promoting her upcoming movie ‘Sui Dhaga’, has been advised rest by doctors.

So , let’s take a look at the symptoms, causes and treatment of bulging disc.

Symptoms:

A bulging disc happens when the tough outer layer of the disc bulges into the spinal canal. It is one of the most common spine injuries which can occur in your lumbar spine (lower back), cervical spine (neck) or thoracic spine (upper and mid-back).

The symptoms of bulging disc can vary on the basis of the location and severity of the condition. There is a possibility that a person suffering from a slipped disc does not have any signs till the bulging area does not press against a nearby nerve.

A person, however, may feel severe pain if the spinal nerve is pressurised by displaced disc material.

The signs of bulging disc may include:

The most common sign of the disease is intense pain radiating to the hips, buttocks, legs and feet due to damaged disc. In the cervical spine, pain can radiate from the neck, down the arm and to the fingers. The other signs are numbness, weakness, tingling and muscle spasms.

Causes of a bulging disc:

Among the most common reasons for a bulging disc are injury, wear-and-tear, ageing, excess body weight, severe trauma, etc.

Genetics may also be the reason for developing this condition. People with family history of degenerative spine conditions are more prone this disease.

What are the treatments?

People who are diagnosed with a bulging disc are generally recommended treatments that relieve its symptoms. These treatments include warm compresses, exercises, medication and rest.

If the condition of the patient does not improve even after the above mentioned measures, the doctor will advise surgery.

How to prevent a bulging disc?

Bulging disc can not be entirely prevented but you can be physically active, do some back strengthening exercises and yoga to reduce the chances of suffering from it.

We hope the condition of Anushka is not severe and she soon returns to her full-fledged schedule to keep us enthralled with her flawless on screen performances. Wish her a speedy recovery !
