Due to sun sensitivity disease conditions like Polymorphous light eruption (PMLE, Actinic prurigo (hereditary PMLE, Photoallergic eruption, Solar urticaria To help prevent symptoms of a sun allergy, you must protect your skin from exposure to sunlight. Try the following suggestions: Before you go outdoors apply a sunscreen that has a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 or above, with a broad spectrum of protection against both ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B rays. If you have allergy to this then other prevention do for that like: Use a sunblock on your lips. Choose a product that has been formulated especially for the lips, with an SPF of 20 or more. Limit your time outdoors when the sun is at its peak — mostly from about 10 a. M. To 3 p. M. Wear sunglasses with ultraviolet light protection. Wear long pants, a shirt with long sleeves and a hat with a wide brim. Be aware of skin care products and medicines that may trigger a photoallergic eruption. These include certain antibiotics and oral birth control pills, as well as prescription medicines that are used to treat psychiatric illness, high blood pressure and heart failure. If you are taking a prescription medication, and you normally spend a great deal of time outdoors, ask your doctor whether you should take any special precautions to avoid sun exposure while you are on the drug. Take long treatment course for that but prevention is better then cure for this.

I have white spots on my both hands or on my both legs. How can leave it. Please help me.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
I have white spots on my both hands or on my both legs. How can leave it. Please help me.
White spots on can occur due to a number of reasons, of which conditions can be mild or severe. The condition can be mild or severe, and generally covers the majority of the skin on a particular area of the body. They may also cause irritation or itching. The occurrence of whites on the face can be extremely distressing. People affected with this problem should obtain medical advice to diagnose what is causing the condition and the suitable treatment. Causes of White Spots White spots on the face occur for various reasons. Understanding some of these reasons may be beneficial in treating the condition. Furthermore, understanding the cause can also help people avoid certain circumstances that increase the risk. 1. Tinea Versicolor This is a chronic fungal infection of the skin. Also known as pityriasisversicolor, this fungus causes discolored patches on the skin as it interferes with the normal pigmentation. The color of the patches may be darker or lighter than the surrounding skin and most often, affects the back and trunk of adolescent males. Exposure to sunlight, hot, humid weather, oily skin and excessive sweating may aggravate the condition. 2. Vitiligo This is a skin condition that results in the loss of melanocyte pigmentation of the skin. This results in white patches that feel as if it is part of the skin. The cause of vitiligo is unclear although it is believed to be an autoimmune disease. However, mild trauma to any area of the skin including the face can also result in the development of vitiligo. Vitiligo can affect the face, hands and feet, elbows and genital area. 3. Idiopathic Guttate Hypomelanosis White spots on the face may also be due to Idiopathic Guttate Hypomelanosis, a skin condition resulting in 2 to 5 mm flat, white spots commonly found on the shins and forearms. This skin condition mostly affects fair skinned people, although it may occur in dark skinned individuals too. The white spots may occur more commonly in people over the age of 40. 4. Pityriasis Alba This skin condition is common in children aged 6 to 12. It is a rash that appears on the face, neck and arms, and is not easily differentiated between normal skin. The rash may be covered with skin flakes resembling light dust. The cause of Pityriasis Alba is not known and is often considered as a form of eczema. This condition is often mistaken with vitiligo. However, while vitiligo has a distinct border, Pityriasis Alba does not. Treatments for White Spots on Face The medical treatment for white spots depends entirely on the root cause that underlies the condition. There are certain things that you can try to accelerate the process of treatment . Some of these mentioned treatments are professional while others are home remedies. Home Remedies .  For treating vitiligo, consumption of ginger juice is recommended as it promotes blood flow. neem seed oil applied to the affected area will also bring beneficial results.  Idiopathic Guttate Hypomelanosis may not require treatment as it is harmless. However, topical steroids and retinoids may help treat the condition.  Treatment for Pityriasis Alba may not be necessary although the application of a moisturizer or hydrocortisone creams may help the disappearance of these patches.  Washing the face with mild soaps and exfoliating the skin at least twice a week with a honey, rice, turmeric and sandalwood powder paste can treat Tinea Versicolor. So identify your problem of white spots with the help of your local doctor so that appropriate treatment is given or send me your picture depicting those white spot along with the complete hsitory of your spots,so that I am clear in making a diagnosis.

Dermatology Treatments for Acne scars

MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy, MBBS

Dermatology Treatments for Acne scars

Possibly the most common skin problem in the world, acne is the inflammation of the skin pores when excess oil and dead skin cells clog them. Acne can manifest in many forms such as blackheads and whiteheads, and papules among others. More than the acne, the scars they leave behind tend to cause the most grief as they look quite unsightly. There are multiple modern dermatological treatments which can help you resolve this problem. Some of the treatments that are commonly used are mentioned below –

  1. Chemical Peels: This is one of the most common methods used for the treatment of acne scars. Specially mixed chemical formulations are used to dissolve away the top layer of the skin which contains most of the scars. Once the top layer goes away, the new layer of skin which regenerates doesn’t have the scars.

  2. Light Therapies and Laser Treatments: There are many types of laser and light therapies which use a focused light to burn away the top layer of the skin to regenerate it and reduce the scar. Certain specialized lasers use high-intensity pulses to treat raised acne scars specifically.

  3. Dermabrasion and Microdermabrasion: One of the most popular and commonly found treatments, is dermabrasion. This method uses an electrical machine that removes the top layer of skin which is akin to sanding. However, this is a fairly invasive option and will require some time for recovery. A less invasive procedure is microdermabrasion which uses finer instruments for this purpose and tends to have lesser downtime.

  4. Dermal Filler Injections: These injections are used to plump up certain areas of skin which need to be treated. Most of them work on the principle of boosting collagen which is responsible for healing the skin. Once boosted, collagen works to fill gaps and regenerate new skin. However, most of these are temporary and only last for about a year or so.

  5. Incisions Under the Skin: Sub-cision or subcutaneous incision uses a tuned surgical probe to separate the scar tissues of acne from the normal skin. This will result in the skin to rise and thus flatten the dent of the acne scar.

  6. Autologous Fat Transfer: A form of therapy which is becoming popular very quickly, this method uses fat taken from one area of your body and injected into the scar area. This results in raising the depressed areas of the skin and flattening the scars. However, fat is easily absorbed within the body and thus the effect may diminish within some time. You may be needed to redo the procedure over regular periods.

  7. Cryotherapy: The area around the scar is frozen in a targeted manner which results in the scar tissue falling over and exposing newer skin which is smooth and devoid of scarring.

  8. Topical Creams: These are the most commonly available over the counter solutions for acne scars which help reduce their appearance. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist and ask a free question.

Types of Premature Ejaculation & Diagnosis

Types of Premature Ejaculation & Diagnosis

Disorders be it physical or psychological can affect anyone, irrespective of thier age. However, there are certain issues, which can dampen you relation with your partner and can negetively impact your relationship. Premature ejaculation (PE), also referred to as rapid ejaculation, is the most common type of sexual dysfunction in men younger than 40 years and seen across all age groups. In elderly men (>60 years) erectile dysfunction is more common. A study conducted by the Journal of Sexual Medicine revealed that this condition is almost equally prevalent in sexually active men of all age groups. If a man experiences uncontrollable ejaculation (discharge of semen from penis) either before or shortly after sexual penetration (usually within 1-2 minutes of penetration), he may be suffering from PE.

Types of premature ejaculation:

Premature ejaculation can be Acquired (recent) or Chronic (lifelong).

  1. Acquired PE: Acquired (recent) premature ejaculation means that the condition began in an individual who previously experienced an acceptable level of ejaculatory control and only recently has developed the problem.
  2. Chronic PE: In chronic (lifelong) premature ejaculation, the person has been experiencing premature ejaculation since he became sexually active (ie, post puberty).

How to diagnose PE:

The specific criteria for premature (early) ejaculation are as follows:

  • In almost 75-100% sexual activity, the experience of ejaculation occurring during sexual intercourse within 1 minute after vaginal penetration and before the individual wishes it.
  • The problem has persisted for at least 6 months and is a cause of mental stress to the person.
  • The dysfunction cannot be better explained by any other nonsexual mental disorder, any medical disease, the effects of a drug or medication, etc.

Severity of PE:

The severity of premature (early) ejaculation is broadly defined as follows:

  1. Mild: Occurring within approximately 30 seconds to 1 minute of vaginal penetration.
  2. Moderate: Occurring within approximately 15-30 seconds of vaginal penetration.
  3. Severe: Occurring even before sexual activity, at the start of sexual activity, or within approximately 15 seconds of vaginal penetration. In such cases, conception will not be possible unless artificial insemination is used.

Cut a fresh cucumber into thick slices, and rub them thoroughly all over your face. Leave it on overnight and rinse with warm water in the morning. Do this daily before going to bed. After puncturing the skin with their mouthparts and feeding on blood, mosquitoes leave hard, itchy bumps which is normal with everyone. But if the bumps are painful in that case, they could be transmission of viral or parasitic diseases. So if your bumps are normal and subside in 24 hours, then there is nothing to worry about. Something that stays hard, red and itchy for 3-4 days should be brought to the notice of the doctor.
