What kind of medical test should I go through to detect depression in side my body.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
What kind of medical test should I go through to detect depression in side my body.
No medical test can diagnose depression and it is diagnosed form histoory taking and symptoms.•All depressed patients must be enquired specifically about suicidal ideations. •Suicidal ideation is a medical emergency •Risk factors for suicide are psychiatric known disorders, medical illness, prior history of suicidal attempts or family history of attempted suicide. •The demographic reasons include older age, male gender, marital status (widowed or separated) and living alone. If you feel depressed, it's best to do something about it — depression doesn't just go away on its own. In addition to getting help from a doctor or therapist, here are 5 things you can do to feel better. And if these are not useful you need antidepressants 1.Exercise. Take a 15- to 30-minute brisk walk every day — or dance, jog, or bike if you prefer. People who are depressed may not feel much like being active. In addition to getting aerobic exercise, some yoga poses can help relieve feelings of depression. Two other aspects of yoga — breathing exercises and meditation — can also help people with depression feel better. 2.Nurture yourself with good nutrition. Depression can affect appetite. One person may not feel like eating at all, but another might overeat. Proper nutrition can influence a person's mood and energy. So eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and get regular meals (even if you don't feel hungry, try to eat something light, like a piece of fruit, to keep you going). 3.Identify troubles, but don't dwell on them. Try to identify any situations that have contributed to your depression. When you know what's got you feeling blue and why, talk about it with a caring friend. Talking is a way to release the feelings and to receive some understanding. 4. Express yourself. With depression, a person's creativity and sense of fun may seem blocked. Exercise your imagination (painting, drawing, doodling, sewing, writing, dancing, composing music, etc.) and you not only get those creative juices flowing, you also loosen up some positive emotions. Take time to play with a friend or a pet, or do something fun for yourself. Find something to laugh about — a funny movie, perhaps. Laughter helps lighten your mood. 5. Try to notice good things. Depression affects a person's thoughts, making everything seem dismal, negative, and hopeless. If depression has you noticing only the negative, make an effort to notice the good things in life. Try to notice one thing, then try to think of one more. Consider your strengths, gifts, or blessings. Most of all, don't forget to be patient with yourself. Depression takes time to heal. If you are happy with these answers please click on "useful” link so that I can know my efforts are not wasted. If you want more clarifications or prescription for medicines consult me on this site to ask me directly and not in open questions session It's not easy to say exactly what causes depression and anxiety – it's different for everyone. Sometimes a difficult time in you or your mates' life can set off depression or anxiety, sometimes it's caused by a combination of things that has built up over time and sometimes, there's just no obvious cause at all.

I used to take vitamin E tablets seldom. But now I've been taking them (vit E capsules) tablets regularly from 1 week. It's really working on my skin and I found that pimples which I had before are getting healed and there are no further symptoms of any pimple till now but I'm worried if I can orally take this tablet regularly. And what if I stop taking the capsules suddenly. Will the pimples attack me again. Will I have to continue taking tablets regularly to prevent pimples. Can you please tell me the side effects and Benefits of taking vitamin E capsules orally and by applying on to the skin. thank you.

Vitamin E oil has powerful antioxidant properties that make it highly effective in treating various skin conditions including acne. You may have noticed that many skin care products such as creams and lotions include Vitamin E oil as an essential ingredient. This is because it has many wonderful benefits such as delaying the signs of aging, hydrating the skin, eliminating acne scars, etc. However, if you are considering oral Vitamin E supplements for acne and pimples, there are certain things that you should keep in mind. Firstly, think about whether you prefer a supplement that is natural or synthetic. Experts recommend trying to find a supplement that is a natural blend of tocotrienols and tocopherols as it is more easily absorbable. Vitamin E oil in the natural form is known to be twice as active as it is in the synthetic form The second thing that you need to keep in mind is the amount of the oil you take in. The recommended daily allowance or RDA is slightly more than 22 IU for adults ; however, it is commonly sold in dosages that are much higher. It is believed that taking higher doses can cause a purportedly higher risk of bleeding, particularly among patients with Vitamin K deficiency or those who take blood-thinning medications. Keep your intake below 400 IU to keep this danger away. Thus it is always good to make dietary modifications rather than taking supplements for a prolonged time period. As mentioned, a great way to get Vitamin E is to include foods that are rich in it in your diet. Foods like almonds, beans, broccoli, peanuts, hazelnuts, sweet potatoes, yams, wheat germ, raw honey and sunflower seeds are rich in this vital nutrient. Another way to use Vitamin E oil for acne prone skin is to apply it topically. As mentioned already, it is often used as an ingredient in soaps, lotions, creams and other beauty products. It works excellently as a moisturizer, and its antioxidant properties are believed to protect the skin against fine lines and wrinkles as well as sun damage. When it is topically applied on the skin with acne or pimples, Vitamin E oil works with fantastic results. However, if you already have oily skin, it may not be suitable for you.

It is very very clear that you are a brilliant student. Keep your focus on your goal and use self motivation. You need to know that your parent's intention is good but their method is wrong. Love the intention and ignore the method of your parents. Take it as a self challenge and decide the best for you. Start smiling for yourself as and when you feel 'demotivated' because now you have understood and accepted that their intention is good and they want to challenge you to do good in exams. Take the challenge and move on. If you still need help you can connect with me directly on Lybrate for a direct online or in person talk.

My child aged 16 is brilliant at studies however very inattentive and inconsistent. She has developed addiction with cell phone. If not allowed behaving aggressively. We tried to keep her pampered. occasionally it worked. We have another child aged 9.We remain conscious so that sibling rivalry does not grow. However despite our efforts the situation no improving. Kindly help.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Teenage cell phone addiction is not easy to deal with, but being a parent, you should always try your best to help kids to overcome the obsession. Here are different solutions to cell phone addiction in teenagers. First of all, a parent should become a friend to his/her teen. Be ready to talk, help and support your kid in any situation. Treat your child as you would treat an adult – a person equal to you. Show your teenage son or daughter how to be in charge of his/her behavior. At the same time, show your authority. You are the parent – so it’s you who sets the rules. Become a positive example. Use your own cell phone less and pay more attention to the members of your family. Set a limit on the money that you give out monthly for your child’s phone. Another good solution to teen cell phone addiction is setting a limit on the Internet data available. Once the allotment runs out, the Internet will be disconnected. Therefore, a teen will use cell phone less frequently and more thoughtfully. Monitor their mobile activity.

Chronic stress is associated with most chronic diseases. You have mentitled about your anxiety. I am not sure if you are doing any kind of exercise on a regular basis. Regular exercise will surely help you wit anxiety. If need be you may consult a counselor and learn few techniques to manage and overcome anxiety. This will enhance your quality of life. Also your hdl cholesterol which is a good cholesterol is relatively low. May be because you don't exercise regularly. You are quiet young. Start regular exercise Join gym or go for run or even sport like football or tennis badminton would be good. Exercise will help you wit anxiety. It will increase your good cholesterol. It will also increase your overall energy level. Which will help.you produce better result. Only good things will come out of it. Remember that our best friend and worst enemy is our own mind. If you keep worrying it will effect you adversely. And instead of worrying if you take positive actions yoh will have positive outcome. Hope this helps Wishing you very best

Could be but it is better for you to get yourself examined. Cessation of smoking is a must anyway and you should not wait for bad symptoms to appear before quitting. If you did that you may have developed a permanent condition and will have to resort to curative measures. If you quit now, you will be on a preventive mode and life will be a lot better.

I always think negative. Lots of thoughts go through my mind. I try to ignore but it continues. What to do?

Ph. D - Psychology, Professional Certified Coach
Psychologist, Ahmedabad
I always think negative. Lots of thoughts go through my mind. I try to ignore but it continues. What to do?
When our mind is hooked into past it is normal to have lot of negative thoughts and in turn feeling low. The good news is that our mind could be wired to switch back to positive things and resilience building. We have immense potential within us and we could tap into those one step at a time, one day at a time. When things does not happen as we wish or people do not behave as we expect that is when out of disappointment, frustration, loneliness, anger, sadness. Etc we react and our mind starts thinking negative thoughts. Changing this pattern of responding to stressful situation requires both persistence and patience. Also you will only be able to work on this out of love and kindness towards you. Strong motivation will go a long way. Writing a statement about how would you want to respond in a similar situation and how will your life and your happiness will change if you do learn to manage your stress and how to respond to it. Once that is clear. Try following things to learn relaxation response which leads to better coping mechanism on a daily basis. To begin with doing guided progressive muscular relaxation before sleeping will help you relax. You could google and download an audio file. I would also suggest you to take a multiple small break to take 3 nice and deep breath while keeping your eyes closed. You could do this while sitting or standing or while even walking or climbing stairs (keep your eyes open in that case). When you take a nice and deep break there is actual physiological change in your body. This will help you to activate parasympathetic nervous system which promotes relaxation and helps you calm down and think more clearly. This will also actually improve your performance in your work. Along with this exercise is one of the best way to relive stress and stay fit. Engage in any kind of physical activity at least 4 times a week. This also helps in stress reduction. Along with this some relaxation exercises as well as engaging in joyful activities such as music, singing, dancing, reading, being in nature, gardening, talking with friends or anything which you enjoy will help reducing stress and rejuvenation of your mind and body. Have good routine for sleep and eating. Lot of research has now proven that sugar is very harmful for our health. Reduce sugar and refined white floor in your diet as much as you could. Along with this also increase consumption of raw vegetables in the form of salad in both the meals of your day.

Your problem of difficulty in breathing is because breathing is a huge component of depression. Shallow breathing pattern is commonly observed in people affected by depression.
