I am suffering from short breath and I could not walk for even short distance as I have to breathe heavily. And also I suffer from sleeplessness in nights. I could not lie flat on bed as I feel something block my air passage. Shall I know what is the reason?

Hi take ginger tea mixed with 2-3 crushed garlic cloves. Massaging the chest with warm sesame oil mixed with salt helps to loosen the phlegm deposited in the chest, especially, when followed with steam inhalation. Take shwas kuthar ras twice a day. Pranacharya asthamin capsule 1-1 twice a day. And pranacharya shwas vikarasav 2-2 tsf twice a day. 1-1 drop of cow ghee in both nostrils at night time before sleep. Take hot water steam.

I m suffering from sinus. Tell me the name of medicines that I should take, Also tell me home mede remedy to cure sinus. Thanks.

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi, Hello, Take Schwabe’s Alpha-SH, Alpha-NH and Biocombination-05 - all of them thrice a day for 4 weeks. Use Bakson's Nasal-Aid spray/ 1-2 sprays after every 4 hours. Management: - Avoid cold drinks and fried food, take healthy food. -Avoid exposure to Air-conditioner or cold air. -Take steam-inhalation once before going to bed. -Take enough sleep and rest. Home-Remedies: -When turmeric is combined with spicy ginger root and brewed for hot tea, this combination can help loosen mucus from clogged nasal passages, alleviate sinus pressure, and make you feel better all around. -Two or three tablespoons of raw, unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar added to a cup of hot water or tea taken three times daily will help thin out excessive mucus relieving congestion an sinus pressure. Mix with lemon and honey or Stevia to taste. - Vitamin C (available in form of chewables) helps the body to resist immune system deficiencies and improves overall health.

This sounds like allergy but not like asthma. In asthma there is wheezing also associated. Get an evaluation from a chest physician or an ent to be sure.

After quitting smoke I am suffering from cough, chest congestion and some cold and mucus problem.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Your cough is probably related to your smoking, even if you have quit it by now. The body reacts to the absence of the smoking by these forms as a reaction to tobacco's withdrawal. The lining in the throat is filled with tiny hair like structures called cilia. Cilia are tiny hair-like organelles that reside on the surface of cells. There are two types of cilia: motile and non-motile. The former continuously move in a wave-like fashion in a single direction, while the latter function as sensory organs that respond to stimulus. The most common reason to suffer damaged or paralyzed cilia, however, is smoking. Normally, healthy ones in the bronchial tubes work in sync with specialized cells that produce mucous to capture and remove impurities from the lungs. Smokers, on the other hand, are subjected to about 7,000 toxic chemicals in cigarette smoke, including arsenic, methane, and carbon monoxide. This damages the organelles, and dirt, environmental pollutants, and toxins from cigarette smoke remain in the lungs. Furthermore, these toxins migrate from the lungs via the bloodstream to other organs. In response to the presence of excess irritants, mucous cells in the lungs become stimulated to produce more mucous than they normally would. Of course, with damaged cilia, the lungs have no means of moving the mucous out. This usually results in an unproductive cough. In fact, the damage caused by smoking leaves the smoker at significantly higher risk for frequent respiratory infections, or chronic bronchitis. Continued smoking may eventually lead to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema) or lung cancer. In fact, smoking eventually destroys the cilia, which may then be displaced by an excessive number of basal cells or squamous cells. Over time, these cells may become cancerous. They may also become rogue, escaping through lung tissue and invading other parts of the body.

How long, any diurnal variation. If only in the morning and limited to throat clearing, then can be considered normal. If associated with running nose/sneezing then can be due to allergy. Avoid cold, dust, smoke, pollution.

After missed one Month of tB course. There is No problem in my health. It Is much better then before. Should I restart my tB course again. Or this is fine.

DNB(Respiratory Diseases), MBBS
Pulmonologist, Jabalpur
You have done a mistake by discontinuing medicines of TB for a months now. You have not only increased chances of it coming back but also it has increased chances of coming back in form of drug resistant TB(which is a dangerous form called mdr-tb), if the course was incompletely taken.

I have cough from 50 days and I am using cough syrup from 4 weeks not a bit improvement I found so I consulted doctor at Apollo hospital. He suggested me for an xray after general check up. Now when xray reports where normal he is adding me to undergo a CT scan to get things clear. I'm doubtful of should I undergo a CT scan or not.

DNB(Respiratory Diseases), MBBS
Pulmonologist, Jabalpur
It depends what is your chest x ray showing, which is making the doctor to decide for further advanced test. He might be having some probabilities in his mind to advice you ct scan, you should discuss these possibilities and necessities of advanced tests in your case, so that you have a trustworthy doctor-patient relationship with your doctor.
