I am suffering from asthma for the last 15 years and now I have really a bad dry cough for past two weeks. Can you suggest me what should I do?

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Allergist/Immunologist, Kollam
Dear lybrate-user, kindly co a lung function test to know the extent of your asthma, do an allergy skin test under the guidance of a chest specialist /pulmonologist at kozhikode, start on combination inhalers with spacer under their guidance for asthma, you can take montelukast /antihistamines if you are having nasal allergy. Stop smoking if you have been smoking at the earliest, do not use mosquito coils/liquid. Follow up regularly with your doctor. Thankyou.

I am 30 year old male suffering from asthma the prescribed medicines from my doctor is not effective and the pump does not give me any relief I do not know what to do please give me some advice!

Internal Medicine Specialist, Ajmer
If inhaled brochodilators do not give you relief then your diagnosis needs to be reconsidered, it may be copd. A pft (spirometry) test before and after bronchodilators may help reaching proper diagnosis.

I am 28 yrs old and do suffer from asthma. Every night I get an attack and have to take the inhaler to calm down. Kindly advise is there any other way and whether inhaler has any side effects.

do you have family history of asthama? the right medications for you depend on a number of things, including your age, your symptoms, your breathing triggers and what seems to work best to keep your breathlessness under control. Preventive, long-term control medications reduce the inflammation in your airways that leads to symptoms. Quick-relief inhalers (bronchodilators) quickly open swollen airways that are limiting breathing. In some cases, allergy medications are necessary. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

I am suffering from asthma. Now I am using inhaler daily. So kindly tell me the side effects of inhaler?? Is it safe or not??

MBBS, MD - Pharmacology and Therapeutics
General Physician, Visakhapatnam
Dear lybrate user, inhalation route of drug administration is very effective with minimal side effects when compared with oral/tablet mode of medication. Majority of asthma patients uses two types of drugs. Drugs which dilates airway (broncho dilators like salbutamol) & inflammation stoppers (steroids like budesonide). Side effects are very minimal. If you r using a steroid please wash your mouth with water after inhalation of the drug.

I am 21 years old male. I have slight blockage in my throat. I can't feel that blockage while eating and drinking but I can feel that at rest time while swallowing saliva I can feel that. What should I do? but there is no pain. This question is answered by a doctor. He said me to consult an ent specialist and I consulted, the ent doc said that I have tonsils and my question is how to reduce tonsils and what are the causes of tonsils.

Hi it would be due to pharyngitis/tonsilitis/urti. Tonsils are part of human body in everyones throat. Kindly remove that taught that it will cause big issues. Only when it gets infected it causes problems. Kindly do routine infectr tonsils. Ion investigations and examination of tonsils by an ent doctor. If repeated infections, affecting your daily life- go ahead with tonsilectomy where they will remove of you.
