What type of liquids to take at the time of typhoid fever and patient is diabetic.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Drink plenty of fluids as this helps to prevent dehydration which occurs due to high fever and diarrhea. Individuals, who suffer from severe dehydration, may have to receive fluids intravenously. It is also important to follow a healthy diet. Nutritional deficiencies can easily develop due to the illness and hence you need to consume high-calorie, nutritious meals.

I am a 29 year old female. My problem is I get angry on simple things. I have a baby. Sometimes if he cries unnecessarily I get irritated. I don't like simple change in my routine. If any change like if I don't sleep during daytime then also I get irritated. I don't open up to people around me. I hesitate in talking to my known relatives. I always feel like I need to consult a psychiatrist. What should I do to overcome my problems.

Yes you are right, you need to meet Psychiatrist but I don't think you need medicines. Consult somebody relationship coach, where you can open your heart out and express everything you feel. You need to be understood and guided. Possibly you are not comfortable in things related to marriage and relationship. Proper understanding, guidance and support is very important quickly before you enter in a situation where matters become more serious. All the best. You can contact me as well on this platform by one to one private. Take care, it is common in many relationship and marriage.

WHO recommends adults & children reduce their daily intake of free sugars to less than 10% of their total energy intake. A further reduction of free sugars intake to below 5% or roughly 25 grams (6 teaspoons) per day would provide additional health benefits

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Memory and mind power depends on three aspects. Understanding, retention and recollection. Recollection is easy if your retention is proper and flawless. Retention is possible when you are able understand what you read or learn. To understand you should have concentration. Concentration comes from effective learning techniques based on creative and active learning. Physical exercise, outdoor games, entertainment, socializing coupled with systematic learning improves your memory and mind power. Vegetables, fruits and nuts are perfect for memory. Brain games like sudoku and jigsaw puzzles helps too. Avocados, Beetroots, Blueberries, Broccoli. Celery, Coconut Oil, Dark Chocolate etc are good for improving concentration and memory. I suggest online education counseling. Take care.

Hypothyroidism - 4 Easy Tips to Help You Manage it

MBBS, MD - General Medicine, DM
Endocrinologist, Hyderabad
Hypothyroidism - 4 Easy Tips to Help You Manage it

The thyroid gland, in the lower front of the neck, releases hormones in the bloodstream that affect almost every part of your body, from your brain and heart, to your skin and muscles. It also controls metabolism which is the process of changing the food you eat into energy. When the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone, it is called hypothyroidism.

Symptoms of hypothyroidism include:

  1. Constipation
  2. Hair loss and dry hair
  3. Dry skin
  4. Fatigue
  5. Sensitivity to cold
  6. Decreased heart rate
  7. Goitre (swollen thyroid glands)
  8. Weight gain and difficulty in losing that weight
  9. Persistent jaundice

Hypothyroidism is not curable, but it can be controlled with the right medication. Along with taking your medicines, you can also adopt the following lifestyle changes:

  1. Eat right: While there is no specific diet for hypothyroidism, you should consume vegetables, fruits, whole grains, healthy fats and lean proteins. Since gaining weight is a common symptom of hypothyroidism, eating the right things can help you maintain your weight.
  2. Regular exercise: Exercising can reduce stress, improve energy and help you maintain your optimum weight. Aerobics (for example, cardio), flexibility and strengthening workouts can help with hypothyroidism. Other than that, light weightlifting, yoga and walking, are also beneficial. Do not forget to consult your doctor before you start on any of these exercises.
  3. Reduce stress: Hypothyroidism is chronic, and the one thing that worsens chronic diseases is stress. Stress has serious repercussions on your overall health. So it is important to reduce your stress as much as you can. Meditate daily, at least for five minutes, and schedule a weekly massage to deal with your stress.
  4. Get enough sleep: Fatigue is a symptom of hypothyroidism; you feel tired and sluggish throughout the day. The best way to counter this is to establish a schedule for sleeping. Try to sleep and wake up every day at the same time in the night and in the morning. Generally, sleeping for seven to eight hours is recommended. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a endocrinologist and ask a free question.

Few things related to headache so that we can plan the treatment accordingly - if pain is associated with blurred or decreased vision than check your eye sight for refractive error - if the pain is associated with cold and fever than we have to rule out sinusitis as the cause and if the pain is pulsatile in nature and with a throbbing pain usually with an aura than we have to rule out migrane as the cause - if the pain is associated with neck problems than we have to rule out cervical spondylosis as the cause - if the pain is associated with either low or high bp or due to hyperacidity than we have to treat the cause after examination.

I brush my teeth regularly twice a day but the colour remains yellowish, what can I do to whiten my teeth?

I brush my teeth regularly twice a day but the colour remains yellowish, what can I do to whiten my teeth?
Sir, for each people just like skin color, the tooth color will be different by nature and cannot be changed. You can visit a dentist and get a scaling procedure done. If the yellow color is external stains and dirt then that treatment will be effective. There are some procedures like bleaching to whiten the teeth if you are still not happy, but these are used in extreme cases where the teeth is very discolored only. You can ask your dentist to suggest a toothpaste for whitening the teeth, which may be effective to some extent.

My sperm count is less 35 million and I am married from last one year but my wife has not conceived yet. Is my sperm ...
Dear lybrate user. Sperm Count. 40 million to 300 million is the normal range for the number of sperm per milliliter. Counts below 10 million are considered poor; counts of 20 million or more may be fine if motility and morphology are normal. 1. Avoid overheating your testicles. There's a reason our testicles rest outside our bodies: they need to stay a bit cooler than the rest of our internal organs. When testicles get too warm, they aren't able to produce as much sperm.[1] There are a number of ways to make sure your testicles don't get overheated: Don't wear tight pants and jeans. Wear loose, cotton boxer shorts instead of briefs. Sleep without underwear so that your testicles stay cooler. Avoid hot baths and saunas. 2. Wear a jockstrap when you play sports. It goes without saying, because most men know this from experience, but a blow to the balls will hurt you and kill your sperm. 3. Massage your body with herbal oils. This, along with regular exercise, improves overall blood flow and circulation. Increased circulation means healthier sperm. 4. Reduce stress levels. Stress can decrease your sexual function, leading to reduced sperm production.[2] If you work 12 plus hour days and never give yourself a chance to rest, your count might be down as a result. Try practicing relaxation techniques throughout the day to keep yourself feeling calm. Keep your mind and body healthy by regularly practicing yoga and meditation, or take up running or swimming. Stress hormones block Leydig cells, which are tasked with regulating testosterone production. When your body experiences too much stress, it can actually stop producing sperm altogether. Make sure you're getting enough sleep every night. Exhaustion can also lead to increased stress and cause decreased sperm production. 5. Stop smoking. Smoking cigarettes causes sperm counts to be lower, makes them move more slowly, and causes the sperm themselves to be misshapen. 6. Drink alcohol moderately. Alcohol affects your liver function, which, in turn, causes a dramatic spike in estrogen levels. 7. Ejaculate less frequently. Frequent ejaculations can lower sperm count. Your body produces millions of sperm each day, but if you already have low sperm count, consider storing them up longer between ejaculations. If you have sex or masturbate daily, cut down on the frequency for increased sperm production. 8. Be careful around toxins. Exposure to chemicals can affect the size, movement and count of your sperm. It's more and more difficult to avoid exposure to toxins, but it's absolutely necessary for your overall health and the health of your sperm. Do the following to decrease your exposure: If you work around chemicals all day long, protect your skin with long sleeves and gloves, and make sure you wear a mask and goggles to protect your face. Use natural cleaning supplies instead of cleaning with chemicals. Don't use pesticides or herbicides in your house or yard. 9. Be wary of medications. Certain medications can lead to decreased sperm count and even permanent infertility. If sperm production is a big concern for you, make sure you ask your doctor whether any medication prescribed might affect your sperm count. Look at the labels on over-the-counter medicines, too. 10. Involve in physical exercises. 11. Flax seeds increase testosterone in a man's body. They also contain essential fatty acids that are necessary for maintaining libido. Flax seeds help in the proper release of all sex hormones, facilitating sexual desire. Taking one tablespoon of flax seed every day will ensure your sexual health. Take care.

Hi, I am having snoring problem while sleeping and I do inhale via my mouth during sleep. Eventually when I get up I get a very sore throat and my back throat and the upper soft palate becomes painful. During the day the pain reduces but the same story continues next day. To give a brief background on my case, I had a Deviated septum and tonsillitis operation last year and post that I was able to breathe good via nose. Even now I can say 80% breathing I do via nose during normal time. But during sleep it becomes worse and I breathe by mouth. The throat gets very dry and I have seen some stuffy mucus also gets struck at the back of the throat. I get it removed by my fingure. The surface of the throat becomes so sensitive if accidentally my figure touches the wall of the back throat it bleeds (very rarely though). Do you recommend any exercise or best practice to get rid of this mouth breathing during sleep? Can the nose septum again getting deviated post my last operation?

Clear nasal passages. If you have a stuffy nose, rinse sinuses with saline before bed. Using a Neti pot, nasal decongestant, or nasal strips can also help you breathe more easily while sleeping. If you have allergies, reduce dust mites and pet dander in your bedroom or use an allergy medication. Keep bedroom air moist. Dry air can irritate membranes in the nose and throat, so if swollen nasal tissues are the problem, a humidifier may help. Change your sleeping position. Elevating your head four inches may ease breathing and encourage your tongue and jaw to move forward. There are specially designed pillows available to help prevent snoring by making sure your neck muscles are not crimped. Sleep on your side instead of your back.

What should I do -to increase my height at age of 20? Even I do weightlifting too -Not too intense just little bit.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)

What should I do -to increase my height at age of 20? Even I do weightlifting too -Not too intense just little bit.
We all are aware of the fact that our height increases up to a particular age and then it comes to a halt. Height increases up to the age of 18years in women and up to the age of 20 years in men. Increase in height is attributed to the production of growth hormone, called the HGH( Human Growth Hormone), which is secreted by the pituitary gland called the master gland of our body. It is rather difficult to increase height after reaching adulthood as the production of these hormones slowly stops. In most cases, the epiphyses of the long bones are fused as the last bits of cartilaginous tissue in the bones turn into solid hard bones. This prevents any further growth in longer bones. However, if the hormones are released naturally, increase in height can be observed. Increase in height at your age depends upon a no. of factors like 1.Heriditary factor 2.Recorded any increase in height in last 6 months 3.Amount of effort you are putting in for increase in height 4.How much serious are you for your height 5.Will you give 100% if I show you a direction 6.Stop Weight lifting 7.Just do your bit with full determination and leave the rest to time, exercises and medicines.
