I have cavities in my teeth since 6 years of age now it increase which paste I prefer to use? Please advise.

MDS Prosthodontics
Dentist, Delhi
More than paste its the way of brushing, frequency of brushing, dietary habits which is responsible for tooth decay or cavities. Please visit a nearby dentist to chalk out a comprehensive treatment plan for you which will include fillings, teaching brushing, modifying eating habits, regular reviews etc.

Dentists: which foods help in the re-mineralization of teeth after having something sweet? -cheese -apple -carrots?

MDS - Orthodontics, BDS
Dentist, Noida
Re-mineralisation of tooth occurs when it is provided with Ca or fluoride ions. Presently we say Fluoride . Above mentioned food does not contain fluoride . Cheese contains Ca , but it is not free Ca ions so vitamin D and Ca helps in remineralisation by getting absorbed in body. For Surface remineralisation of teeth locally fluoride is important which is present in tooth paste ,certain oral rinses (Phosflur) etc ,but concentration of fluoride is low and requires longer time (few months) . Other way of re-mineralisation of teeth is done in dental office(this is much faster due to high concentration of fluoride) where APF gels and Fluoride Varnishes are used to remineralize external surface of tooth. All type de-mineralised surfaces cannot be re mineralised by any of above mentioned things and these require dental treatment like dental caries.

The Working Woman's Guide to the Perfect Smile!

The Working Woman's Guide to the Perfect Smile!

Here are habits to implement today to maintain that perfect smile for you and your family tomorrow

As women at work or at home, we are responsible for the health of those around us. If you are a compassionate and caring mother, daughter, sister or wife looking after the dental health of your family becomes imperative to their well being.

Here are some useful habits that can go a long way in keeping you and your family smiling for years.

#1 go soft automatic

Rev up your brushing-use an automated tooth brush. This maybe true for not only you as a woman but for your family. Make sure you switch them to an automatic or motorized brush with soft or extra soft bristles. This works best since it takes the guesswork out of brushing and improves your and your children's technique even if they're sleepy in the morning.

#2 dental emergency kit

Keeping a dental emergency kit loaded with some essentials like a basic dental painkiller (as prescribed), clove oil, some dental floss and a toothpick (not a habit recommended by us but when things get lodged and cause pain it maybe the last resort)

#3 vitamin check

Best way of ensuring good tooth and bone health is to ensure good levels of vitamins vitamin d3, calcium especially if you're beating menopause and even iron, b complex to prevent anaemias which can be detected orally. Deficiencies of vitamins and essential minerals can make your family more susceptible to oral health problems.

#4 gift a smile

Gift your dependents a great smile be it preventive treatments for your young ones like our decay protection programme which ensures they never have to feel dental pain like we have, or the braces intervention campaign which helps guide teeth to proper positions at an early age. More questions about your young ones dental health

For the elderly who missed out on a lot of preventive dental work can now enjoy the benefits of latest technology giving them fixed teeth instead of removable dentures.

#5 start a trend-family oral health checkup

Mark a day in your calendar a public holiday or the beginning of the year a time that you can easily remember and as a family get an annual checkup to not only ensure that you do not suffer from any dental problems but also early detection of any upcoming medical issues can be done.

Hello lybrate-user, your both problems are not related to each other. Your tooth is having sensitivity problem. For that you can use sensitivity tooth paste like sensodyne, sensoform or shy-nm. Your gums are infected that why they are bleeding. For that you have to go for proffesional cleaning. After cleaning also you have to maintain your oral hygiene at home.

Retainer is a must for 6 months after braces treatment. Retainers help stabilise teeth in their positions. Improper usage leads to relapse of treatment. Go ahead n use retainers.

Few advice to stop bleeding gums-- - visit to a dentist for professional cleaning once in a year - use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water to keep the area clean. - avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums.

If cavity is not deep or there is no pain and sensitivity in the decayed tooth then go for restoration (filling) but if cavity is deep or there is pain and sensitivity in the decayed tooth then first get the x-ray done of that tooth and send me the x-ray picture for further diagnosis.

Hi I want to clean my teeth on my teeth have stains how to remove it pls let me khow as soon as.
All individuals requires scaling (cleaning) to be done atleast once in 6 months to maintain our oral hygiene clean. Our toothbrush is not much finely designed to clean all the plaque and calculi in the interdental areas of the teeth, which is the area where most of the calculus accumulate much and has to be removed regularly using scalers by the dentist.

I used to clench my teeth intentionally for about a week before the start of orthodontic treatment not knowing it was bad for health, now I sometimes feel like I clench during the night, is it due to my orthodontic treatment or my past habit and will it cause mandibular deformation? Dear lybrate user, the clenching is not due to your treatment. It's becoming a habit which you should try to avoid as excessive clenching puts pressure on our teeth, leads to wearing off of the chewing surfaces and might also break your braces. Be careful and give up the habit.
