Milk - Is It Good or Bad for Your Weight Loss Plan?

Milk - Is It Good or Bad for Your Weight Loss Plan?

Milk is nutritious, but sometimes, avid dieters shrink away from consuming milk. It is generally believed that the fat content in milk hinders weight loss. On the contrary, milk has a lot of benefits.

Here are some facts you need to remember before you say no to milk:

  1. Nutrients and milk: Particularly, milk is an excellent source of zinc, vitamin B, protein and most importantly, calcium. So when you ditch milk in your crusade of weight loss, you skip out on calcium, the mineral primarily responsible for good bone health. Some studies suggest that calcium can actually add to weight loss, but this needs more research to back it up.
  2. Health and milk: Previously milk did get a bad reputation when it was linked as a supposed cause of stroke and heart attack. But a recent study produced a result which proved the complete opposite, milk can actually prevent stroke and heart attack! According to research, milk can actually lower your blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
  3. Muscles and milk: Milk contains whey and casein protein, both of which are high-quality proteins if you are looking to build muscles. Whey is a fast protein (gets digested faster) while casein is a slow protein (gets digested slowly). Your body gets a good and healthy supply of proteins when you consume milk, so don’t write it off just yet.
  4. Fat and milk: As mentioned before, calcium can cause your body to burn fat. There is research pending on it, but the preliminary results suggest that dieters shouldn’t skip out on milk. You might argue that you can just consume calcium supplements in that case. However, it has been discovered that other milk proteins to add to fat burning, which you cannot get from supplements. Milk is good for you, but it isn’t a miracle weight loss food. So yes, you will need to follow a healthy diet as drinking a glass of milk with a couple of doughnuts will not help you at all.

So, milk is not all evil as people think it to be. It could be good for your weight loss plan. And the best way to incorporate milk into your weight-loss diet is to consume the low-fat skimmed milk variant than the whole fat milk as you get 90 calories from one cup of skimmed milk as compared to 150 calories from whole milk with nearly the same protein and calcium content. This way you get the best of milk without worrying about the fat in it plus an extra fat loss of 1 kg (9000 calories) from 150 cups over the time with a saving of 60 calories in each cup. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor.

Eat Your Way To A Healthy Heart With These 7 Superfoods

Eat Your Way To A Healthy Heart With These 7 Superfoods

It is often said that, you are what you eat, but did you know that eating certain foods, referred to as superfoods, can support a healthy heart? They are so effective at healing and strengthening the heart that people who eat these foods may almost never suffer from heart disease or heart attack.

The 7 heart healthy superfoods are:

1) Oranges

They reduce blood pressure, lower cholesterol, and the incidence of congestive heart failure (CHF).  They contain pectin which absorbs artery clogging cholesterol therefore, ensuring more efficient heart function. The potassium in them absorbs salt and lowers blood pressure.

2) Kale

It prevents atherosclerosis - hardening of the arteries with its antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, folate, potassium, vitamin E, and lutein.

3) Garlic

It lowers blood pressure and prevents plaque from forming in the arteries. It has minerals and vitamins which keep the brain from producing angiotensin, an enzyme which constricts blood vessels. In fact, clinical studies have shown that regular consumption of garlic slowed plaque growth and hardening by 50%.

4) Red wine

It promotes production of HDL (good cholesterol) which prevents blood clots from forming in the heart. It also contains polyphenols which keeps blood vessels flexible and constantly pushes blood.

5) Dark chocolate

It is rich in flavanols which makes blood vessels more flexible. This also reduces blood pressure.

6) Sardines

They contain omega-3 fatty acids which lower triglycerides (harmful cholesterol) levels, raise good cholesterol levels, lower heart arrhythmias, and reduce the inflammation which disrupts plaque, causing it to break away from arteries and form the clots that lead to heart attack.

7) Lentils

They contain lean proteins and fiber which reduce blood pressure. People who regularly eat lentils greatly reduce their risk of death from heart disease. They are full of potassium, folate, and magnesium - all minerals which protect the heart from damage done by anti-oxidants.

While heart diseases may not be completely preventable, their risks and effects can be dramatically mitigated by eating the superfoods mentioned above.

My mother has high blood pressure for years, more than 10 years and she has to take medicine[prescribed at the polyclinic] daily to control the pressure from increasing, thing is if she skip the medicine, the reading does goes up and sometimes she skip the medicine taking with intention as she strongly believe long period consumption of'western' medicine is detrimental to one's body organs. So she prefer non-medication method from hear-say basis, like consuming certain vegetables, is there truth in this non-medication approach? How do we manage hypertension? Is medication the only option? And is it true that with hypertension, getting work-up, angry, excited must be avoided at all means because this will lead to heart attack?

Does she wear spects for weak eye sight. Tv programmes claim to'cure' eyesight! does it ever happen? eye power keep fluctuating with age and in growing up kids, may be gets corrected but not in seniors. Tell her medicines for high bp, besides lowering the bp, also protect the heart. Vegetables and fruits are good but cannot lower bp once it has been recorded on a higher level - 120/80 is safe, 130/85 is borderline-no medicines, just reduce the salt, above 130/85 some safe medicines like beta blockers are given to reduce the risk of heart attack & stroke. Yes she has to keep her cool.

Hi, take diet rich in protein like non-veg, eggs (it's loaded with essential nutrients such as proteins, vitamin b12, iron, zinc and omega 6 fatty acids in large amounts and biotin), different pulses & legumes, sprouts, nuts (sp. Walnuts and almonds); iron-rich food like green vegetables, dates, carrots, prunes, green peas; also oats, shrimp, take flaxseeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, green tea, soyabean, fruits, salads, etc. Take low-fat dairy products (they also contain whey and casein, two high-quality protein sources) take proper 6-9hrs of sound sleep. Give up the habit of smoking and excessive alcohol intake. Avoid junk food and any kind of beverages (tea, coffee, aerated drinks, cold drinks, etc.) avoid canned/ tinned food or food that contains preservatives (eat fresh ones). Avoid use of hard water to wash the head rather use boiled water for head wash. Avoid use of harsh hair colour, hair treatment like rebonding, straightening, perming, etc. Avoid vigorous exercises or any supplements provided by the gym! cover your head with scarf or cap while stepping outside. Use rose wood/ any wooden hair comb to brush your hair. Regularly massage head and hair with coconut oil, almond oil (depending upon your scalp type) 1 to 3 times a week. Regular exercising is also one of the important point, but should be done under some good, qualified yoga teacher or instructor for proper guidance; it also releases the stress/ tension in the mind and the body and keeps you fit and young! medication: take homoeopathic medicines - schwabe's wiesbaden 200 & alfalfa tonic twice a day for 1 month and revert. Use schwabe's arnica shampoo and hair growth oil regularly as per the condition of your scalp (minimum 3 times a week). After shampooing, use bakson's arnica hair conditioner as well after every head wash. Beside this, you can take one tablet of multivitamin folli hair once daily for 1 month.
