Hello. Masturbation is a medically healthy and psychologically normal habit. It is considered abnormal only when it inhibits partner-oriented behavior, is done in public, or is sufficiently compulsive to cause distress. Masturbation does not produce premature ejaculation. Post-masturbation effects: a man whose penis has suffered a blunt trauma, severe bend or other injury during intercourse or masturbation may, rarely, sustain a penile fracture or suffer from peyronie's disease. Phimosis is" a contracted foreskin (that) may cause trouble by hurting when an attempt is made to pull the foreskin back" in these cases, any energetic manipulation of the penis can be problematic. A small percentage of men suffer from postorgasmic illness syndrome (pois), which can cause severe muscle pain throughout the body and other symptoms immediately following ejaculation, whether due to masturbation or partnered sex. The symptoms last for up to a week. Masturbation drains vital nutrients from the body. If body is in the state of good health to recover, supported by healthy food, regular exercise and calm mind, this practice may cause no impact. Continued drain without enough nutrition reach can lead to weakness (trauma), reflected both in mind (lack of self confidence is the most common) and in the body (digestive disorders, hair fall, frequent urination etc). Medication: take staphysagria 200 and alfaalfa tonic - both twice daily for 3 weeks.

The initial choice of treatment is a steroid ointment that is locally applied. (This can be suggested by a doctor after you are examined in person.)The ointment softens the foreskin and is applied for up to 6 weeks. When full retraction is possible the ointment is stopped. If this treatment is unsuccessful, a circumcision (surgical removal of foreskin) may be advised.

My sister had a white growth on her tongue which was operated couple of weeks back and biopsy done. Report said No Malignancy. It was diagnosed as Hyperkeratosis. Now, once again the same white growth has come back at the same location. Please suggest treatment. Thanks.

B H M S, MD
Homeopath, Thrissur
Hyperkeratosis is thickening of the outermost layer of the epidermis, often associated with the presence of an abnormal quantity of keratin, and also usually accompanied by an increase in the granular layer. As the corneum layer normally varies greatly in thickness in different sites, some experience is needed to assess minor degrees of hyperkeratosis. It can be caused by vitamin A deficiency or chronic exposure to arsenic. Hyperkeratosis can also be caused by B-Raf inhibitor drugs such as Vemurafenib and Dabrafenib. It can be treated with urea-containing creams, which dissolve the intercellular matrix of the cells of the stratum corneum, promoting desquamation of scaly skin, eventually resulting in softening of hyperkeratotic area. But homoeopathic approach is to improve the immunity which will prevent the recurrence as you had. if your are interested opt for a consultation

How to Prevent Your Child from Developing Type 2 Diabetes?

MBBS, DNB, Diploma Dyslipidemia, CCEBDM, CCMTD
General Physician, Gurgaon
How to Prevent Your Child from Developing Type 2 Diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder that prevents the body from processing sugar or glucose. The disorder causes insufficient production of the hormone Insulin (responsible for regulating sugar into the different parts of your body); or the body's failure to respond to the hormone produced. Although no cure is available for T2DM, there are several ways in which you can help prevent Type 2 diabetes in your child. These are:

1. Get your child to indulge in some physical activity - Spending about 60 minutes of the day on physical activity can help your child to ward off Type 2 diabetes. In terms of screen time, it shouldn't be over 2 hours a day. By doing so, he or she ends up building his or her muscles as well as gets rid of extra fat from the body. An active life would also help your child to maintain an optimal body weight with obesity being a cause of this form of diabetes. Whether it's a sport like swimming, cricket or basketball, or even walking and dancing, physical activity in any form can help in preventing your child from developing Type 2 diabetes.

2. Plan a well-balanced diet for your child - Encouraging your child to have healthy foods and making right food choices can also lower his or her chances of getting this metabolic disorder. Foods high in fiber like whole grain cereals and bread, lentils, fruits, and vegetables should be consumed. Similarly, foods low in trans and saturated fats like lean meat, chicken, yogurt and cheese should be included in your child's diet. Processed foods, as well as sugary drinks, should be no-no when it comes to your child's diet.

3. Adopting proper eating habits - It is not only making the right food choices that are important but eating right as well is vital for preventing the onset of diabetes. Having meals with fix portion sizes is a habit that you need to develop in your child. Ideally, half the plate should be filled with vegetables and fruits; a quarter with lean protein like chicken; and the remaining with whole grain. To accompany the meal, make your child have one cup of no-fat or low-fat milk. Desserts like ice cream and cookies should be allowed only once or twice a week.

My PSA level is 10.47 and USG report says that the size of my Prostrate is 73cc. On going through the report The doctor advised me to go for Prostrate biopsy. Though the biopsy report which was done on 09.01. 2016 reveals negative results but immediately after the test was done I suffered UTI infection with blockage of urine. Accordingly I had to be admitted in hospital during the period from 12.01. 2016 to 18.01. 2016. During my stay at hospital I was treated with i. V. Antibiotic (piperacillin and tazobactam) and has been discharged on 19.01. 2016 with Catheter in situ and advised to go for MRI –Prostate. Accordingly, On 30.01. 2016 I have been undergone with MRI and the report is as under I)Prostatomegaly with benign prostatic hyperplasia Ii)Ill-defined T2W hypointense mildly enhancing areas in peripheral zone of prostate right side towards base-PIRADS 3/5. See, psa report is high, not too high, but ofcourse more than the expected value upto 4ng/ml. This value is of total psa, you can also check free psa and the ratio of free and total. Since you have recently undergone biopsy, psa levels may be high because of procedure and you can wait for a fortnight before you repeat psa. Right now there is no conclusive proof that you have malignancy, but your elevated PSA levels and some peripheral enhancement is little uncomfortable, so please repeat all the tests after one month and be under close follow up.

I am suffering from migraine so I used to take crocin twice or thrice in a week since last 5-6 years. And now I am suffering from stomach pains as well as other problems. Whenever I eat something the pain starts, the doctor has prescribed me rabic dsr and florawell but no improvement is there. Also he has recommended me sibelium 10 mg for migraine but it is making me depressed and tired. Need help. What medicines should I take?

MD, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
Might be because of painkillers. You have gastritis or a gastric ulcer. Continue rabic dsr once daily on empty stomach for 2 weeks. Avoid any over the counter pain killers. Crocin is safe. Start naprox 500mg twice daily for 3 to 4 days during migraine attack. Coffee works wonders in migraine but again can lead to gastritis.

How Lack Of Sleep Can Be Bad For Your Health

One in three people complain of poor sleep.
Sleep problems can occur due to long work hours, job pressures, career and family depression, seasonal or long term illnesses and, environmental factors such as extreme temperatures and excess of noise. On a slightly humorous note, poor sleep also crops up due to those minor tiffs with your dating partner, spouse or any of your office colleague or superiors who want to prove their one-upmanship over you.
What should you do in this case? Sit pretty and take positive action. Grow up, as it is time to address and solve the nagging issue of poor sleep before it causes any further damage to you and your happiness.

Negative Effects of Poor Sleep
Sleep deprivation can affect our mind, body and overall health, both physically and mentally. Let us have a glance at how it upsets our normal behaviour, working pattern and overall health:
Loss of Concentration: Often it is the nature of our task and work hours that leave us deprived of sleep. Sleep deprivation affects their speed, agility and alertness.
Obesity: Research shows that poor sleep due to our passive lifestyle affects our eating pattern, thereby increasing our food consumption and causing weight gain. Increased blood pressure, hypertension, and chances of heart attacks are the natural fallouts of poor sleep.
Reduced tolerance to stress: When you are tired owing to the workload and hectic hours, even minor things such as grocery shopping at a store close to your home or travelling in public transport to reach office might seem a huge task. The capacity of doing minor errand jobs seems like a huge burden on the shoulders.
Signs of Ageing : Lack of sleep quite naturally leads to puffy eyes. Since our body releases excess of cortisol (a stress hormone), it can cause breakdown of collagen which is the skin protein responsible for smooth and elastic skin in us. This over a period of time precipitates ageing symptoms such as fine lines, wrinkles, and dark circles under the eyes, affecting natural beauty.
Hampered social interactions: Staying awake at a stretch due to a set of reasons affects our interaction time and connectivity with friends, family members and community. When this happens, it slowly and gradually sucks us into an isolated space which makes us feel withdrawn and alone. In the process, poor sleep negatively affects human relationships.
Increased Accidents: Studies have revealed that poor quality sleep in the night time is likely to lead to injuries and accidents while you are on way to work. That is because sleeplessness affects our concentration level when we are travelling and leads to mishaps and injuries.
Cardiac Arrest: Sleep deprivation is one of the reasons that can cause early heart attacks as per certain research studies.
How to ensure sound sleep?
Lifestyle disorders such as staying up late and watching television, chatting and internet surfing, making long distance calls at night to avoid hefty phone bills during daytime, catching up with books and magazines, making children study and complete their class assignments etc. contribute a lot to triggering insomnia. However, here are a few of home remedies that can be the best alternative to fight poor sleep:
Follow bedroom ethics: A bedroom is meant to sleep in so there should be no kind of hindrance in Try to avoid keeping TV, computer, music system and other electronic gadgets in the bedroom so that when you come back from work, you get into a zone of 100% uninterrupted sleep. This might sound difficult to follow, but is worth a try if you wish to get sound sleep.
Take a warm bath: Your body needs relaxation and rejuvenation after a tiring day. Give yourself the benefit of warm tub bath. This will help you wash out the stress of everyday life. Try and add a few drops of essential oil (lavender or chamomile) to your bath water so that you can enjoy the soothing benefits of aromatherapy.
Meditate: Hitting the sack is an obvious choice after coming back from work. But do spend some time to meditate and clear your thoughts. This will help in bringing you the much needed sleep and calm your mind and nerves.
Apply lemon balm: If you want instant mood uplift, get for yourself lemon balm. One of the ancient herbs used for centuries, lemon balm helps you get good sleep through its physical and mental therapeutic properties. A relaxing tea made out of lemon balm is good when it comes to mood uplifting.
Drink warm milk: Take a glass of warm milk before going to sleep. It relaxes your nerves and is a mild soother that helps you unwind mentally and physically.
Drink tart cherry Juice: This one is a natural sleep aid, so drink half to one cup of it.
Do Feng Shui: This is an art of living that is more than just decorating your living space. It teaches you the philosophy of how to arrange your room, furniture etc. to ensure maximum flow of energy in the spaces so that a positive feeling leads to sound sleep. Therefore, it is essential to keep the room neat and clean with least clutter and trash.
Cut down on caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco: Caffeinated beverages should be avoided at least eight hours before bed. Similarly alcohol should be avoided as it interferes with the quality of sleep. Avoid smoking at night as well.
A solid night?s sleep is very important for a healthy life. Make sure you follow the tips above to live life happy and to the fullest.

I am 22 year old I am addicted to the masturbation please help me to leave the habit.
Masturbation is a sexual act that causes release of dopamine in brain. Due to this feel good neurochemical a person tries again and again to have the same pleasure. This dopamine is also secreted during games and sports and on doing other favourite things like listening to good music, watching good movie or reading fiction etc. You should channelize yourself towards these pleasurable things rather than masturbating. Avoid porn and abuse of any substance. Live a stress free healthy lifestyle with early morning awakening, regular yoga and meditation, routinely going for walk/jog, healthy nutritious diet with full of fruits, sprouts and salads, regular games and sports, enough socialisation, rest and sleep.
