In children, abdominal pain may be related to injury to the abdomen or an illness, such as an upset stomach, an ear infection, a urinary tract infection, or strep throat. . Constipation is a common cause of abdominal pain in children. Some more serious causes of abdominal pain in children include appendicitis, lead poisoning, or problems with the intestines, such as intussusception or malrotation. Girls who start having menstrual periods may have abdominal pain each month, and the pain may be more severe in some months than others. Generalized pain occurs in half of the abdomen or more. Localized pain is located in one area of the abdomen. Babies and toddlers often react differently to pain than older children who can talk about their pain. A baby may become fussy, draw his or her legs up toward the belly, or eat poorly. Older children may be able to point to the area of the pain and describe how severe it is. Have to examine the child to say more

Is it normal for young children to stop taking or needing naps? My 3½-year-old hasn’t taken a nap in quite a while, but seems to do OK.

Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi, On average, a 3-4yrs. of child needs 9-12hrs. of night sleep and 0-2hrs. of sleep during daytime (varies from child to child and few kids may not sleep during daytime). Normally, the child sleeps in daytime after doing more physical activity only when the child starts feeling tired and there is need of rest.

All children will have hesitation to eat and each one has his or her own taste. If we force feed it will only lead to food aversion. If you give her bottle feed stop it and give foods she likes and make eating a playful even rater than a difficult or risky work

My 8 year old son normally behave very well. But some times he gets too angry, specially at the time of study and eating. His angriness comes from his inner side which reflects in his face. After some time again he becomes normal. Is his behaviour normal? Does he require any counselling?

Dear lybrate-user, Tank for your question. Teach your child about peaceful ways to express her anger. Most people feel anger and aggression sometimes -- including children. Adults tend to have better control over their behavior when these feelings arise. Children, however, may turn their energy toward violent behavior such as kicking, biting, or hitting. I suggest online consultation. Take care.

My daughter aged 3 years has tuft hair at cervical region above the hip region by birth. After consultation with the Doctor, scanning has been done and the result is normal. Now the thing is the tuft hair should be removed permanently, since since she is 3 years, laser treatment is apt for her or not?

Hello, there is no contraindications for laser in kids. But as such rarely we get cases for hair removal in kids. So the laser settings and all needs to be individualized to protect the child skin. So needs a someone with experience. So my suggestion would be if there is no hurry wait till at least 10 years when anyone can perform it safely.

Hello Mr. lybrate-user, it would have seen better if I had some pics of the spors you are talking about. Its very difficult to comment without seeing the child. Rashes and spots in the first few weeks of life is common, but at 3 months you atleast need to see a doctor for examination of the child. It can still be a benign rash which subsides over a period of time. But as I told you its difficult to comment without having a look, as there are many forms of rashes/spots. Let someone have a look. Take care.

5 Ways To Deal With Autistic Children!

5 Ways To Deal With Autistic Children!

The moment when you learn about your child being autistic can be a life changing moment for you. You might feel all the dreams and aspirations which you built around your child come crashing down on a pile of zilch. However, recent developments in this field show that you can certainly take steps to make your child more comfortable and bond well with them.

Autism related disorder usually begin before the age of 3, when the child starts encountering problems in communication and social interaction. This article tries to help you find a way to deal with an autistic child:

  1. Learn more about autism: Learn about autism as much as you can; a broad understanding of the causes and symptoms of the disorder can help you understand your child better. This will also enable you to respond to your child’s needs better, both physical and psychological.
  2. Build a strong support system: It is difficult to parent a child who is suffering from autism. Communicating and interacting with your child might be extremely difficult and problematic. In order to overcome this stress, you should have a strong support network, a support network from which you can draw your strength and logic once you have to take major life decisions for your child.
  3. Review your treatment options: It is advisable to start treatment immediately after the diagnosis is done. Early treatment can help better your child’s cognitive skills that can help him/her cope better with the surroundings and circumstances. The treatment options include behavioral training whereby self-help or social skills training is used to work on the child’s communication skills and behavior. Specialized therapy is another option whereby the therapies are directed at a particular aspect of the child, primarily speech or physical functioning.
  4. Focus on your child’s diet: Diet plays an important role in the regularization of any disease. Even in case of autism, deficiency of certain vitamins or minerals makes it very important to analyze the diet and then assess it. Consult with the doctor before making any modification to the child’s diet.
  5. Behavioral training: Behavioral training is an aspect of autism treatment that allows the child to adapt to various conditions. Before a child undergoes behavioral training, it is advised to assess his/her behavior, functional abilities and the environment your child belongs to. The objective of this therapy or training is to induce desired behavior and get rid of the undesirable ones.
