Hello Dr. I am kunal sinha 29 years old I have backache last 2 months please help me?

MSc in Orhopedic Physiotherapy (UK), BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Bangalore
Hello Dr. I am kunal sinha 29 years old I have backache last 2 months please help me?
Try few things for your back pain: - Apply Ice and Heat Heating pads and cold packs can comfort tender trunks. Most doctors recommend using ice for the first 48 hours after an injury -- particularly if there is swelling — and then switching to heat. You can use whichever you find comforting as long as your skin is protected. - Limit Bed Rest Studies show that people with short-term low-back pain who rest feel more pain and have a harder time with daily tasks than those who stay active. -Keep Exercising Activity is often the best medicine for back pain. Simple exercises like walking can be very helpful. But remember to move in moderation, Stay away from strenuous activities like gardening and avoid whatever motion caused the pain in the first place. -Maintain Good Posture Most people have poor posture when going about their daily activities, putting unnecessary strain on their backs. -Strengthen Your Core Most people with chronic back pain would benefit from stronger abdominal muscles. If the abdominals are weak, other areas must pick up the slack. When we strengthen the abdominals, it often reduces the strain on the lower back. - Improve Flexibility Too much tension and tightness can cause back pain. By increasing flexibility you need to put an equal load throughout the body from the feet all the way up to the head. -Sleep the Right Way The amount of rest you get is important, and so is the position you get it in. Sleeping in a bad position or on a mattress without support can cause back pain. Back sleepers should put pillows under their knees. Side sleepers should place pillows between their knees to keep their spine in a neutral position. Stomach sleeping causes the neck and head to twist and can put undue stress on the back. -Use Relaxation Techniques Research shows that practices such as meditation, deep breathing and yoga, which help put the mind at rest, can do wonders for the back. -See a Specialist Developing an individualized exercise plan is essential to managing chronic back pain. Some patients need more core strengthening while others benefit mainly from stretching and improving flexibility. Please consult a Orthopedic Physiotherapist for the right exercise plan. Best wishes.

I am 25 year old male and have a backache for last 3 months. I have used pain relief ointment but there is no relief. Now suggest me.

I am 25 year old male and have a backache for last 3 months. I have used pain relief ointment but there is no relief....
Hello, first of all you should know what is backache and by which factors it caused and aggravated. The usual cause of low back pain is the sedentary lifestyle that we lead these days. There is hardly any movement. walking, running and cycling like activities are also not a part of our daily routine. To add to it, our diet consists more and more of junk food. Fresh fruits, vegetables and high fibre foods are consumed less and less. These daily practices lead to obesity. The increased body weight puts lot of pressure on the spine which has to bear all the extra unwanted weight. The back muscles which are already weak due to lack of exercise and wrong posture are unable to cope with this increased load. This causes pain in the back muscles. Management for Back Pain:-Along with medicines for relieving pain, one needs to identify the cause and correct it. This may require some medicines or some correction in your posture or reducing weight or improving your lifestyle. At the same time, there is a need to work on the local muscle strengthening. Back muscles need to be strengthened so that they can bear the weight of the upper body. For this exercises of the back muscles are very helpful. Regular walking is also very helpful as it is a wholesome exercise of the body, improves blood circulation and helps lose weight. Most importantly if you are overweight then losing weight is an important part of the whole treatment plan .Long term use of painkillers for low back pain is harmful Treatment for back pain:- Homeopathic medicines are very helpful. They not only treat the acute stages but are also used for the treatment of chronic back pain.Selection of the exact remedy depends upon the individual symptoms of the person. So share the complete symptom picture for the proper treatment. In the mean time take Arnica 200, 3 drops in the morning and Rhus tox. 200, 3 drops at night for 7 days.Take care.

Calcium Deficiency - 3 Signs You are Suffering from it

MBBS
General Physician, Gurgaon
Calcium Deficiency - 3 Signs You are Suffering from it

Calcium is known for its role in maintaining the bone health, from keeping your teeth stronger to normal functioning of the cells.  But there are various factors, which lead to a deficiency of calcium in the human body and paves the way for several complications.

Here are the top three signs that indicate you are suffering from calcium deficiency.

  1. Difficulty in sleeping: Sleep is essential for your bone health and calcium is directly associated with your sleep cycle. The level of calcium in your bones rises and falls when you are asleep and it reaches its peak when you are in deep slumber. This indicates that when you are unable to sleep properly, it is a warning sign of calcium deficiency. There are various researches that have confirmed, that by increasing the level of calcium, it is possible to restore the normal sleep cycle of an individual. This is also related to the role that calcium plays in the production of a sleep hormone called melatonin. When the calcium content in the body is really low, this hormone is not produced, thus, making it difficult for a person to sleep.
  2. Difficulty in losing extra pounds: Yet another frustrating aspect of any individual’s life is the inability to shed off excess pounds. This issue is also linked with the lack of calcium supply in the body. The calcium that’s stored in the cells assists in the processing and storage of fat. So the fat cells with high calcium content burn faster, making you lose weight. Thus, if you have trouble losing weight in spite of having a well-regulated diet and regular workout, it’s a sign that you are suffering from low calcium.
  3. Paresthesia: Though this ailment is not much heard of, it could be a sign of calcium deficiency. Paresthesia is a nervous disorder, which causes tingling sensation, tremors, numbness and loss of sensitivity. It could also lead to poor concentration, amnesia, confusion, hearing impairment, twitches and other physical as well as neurological impairment. This is because low calcium in the blood is connected with the health of your nerves.

The deficiency of calcium can manifest itself in different intensity, ranging from the non-existent to minimal to severe levels. Chronic calcium deficiency can lead to life-threatening diseases like rickets, osteopenia, and even osteoporosis. Therefore, you shouldn’t ignore these signs and consult an expert without delay. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).

Last 2 days, I have back pain whenever I walk. Can you suggest what should be done?

Last 2 days, I have back pain whenever I walk. Can you suggest what should be done?
See, most probably you had a muscle pull or its a mechanical back pain which has occurred due to you working or doing something in awkward position. Take rest for couple of days, don't stress much, don't lift anything heavy, don't walk much for few days if that's causing you pain, apply heat on the painful area by using hot water bag or electrical heating belt, for 15-20 mins, if required apply volini spray or ointment.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. See if you have pain in foot region, then it can be due to multiple reasons depending upon which region of foot is involved like front of the foot or back of the foot region etc? but if there is a burning sensation also associated then it may indicate a nerve involvement, so please tell clearly what is the problem. Also have you got tests like vitamin b 12, vitamin d levels done recently after the onset of your complaints? also if you can send me a clinical picture from your mobile phone showing which site do you exactly feel pain and burning sensation, it will be useful? do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Tip to prevent back pain during gardening

Tip to prevent back pain during gardening

YARD WORK

MOWING THE LAWN:

This can be a great strengthener. Maintain good alignment and relaxed breathing. Avoid slumping or overarching the low back keeps your pelvis level. If the vibration of the mower seems to aggravate your symptoms, try thick gloves or use foam tape to insulate the handles.

GARDENING LOW TO THE GROUND:

(PLANTING, WEEDING, EDGING):

Maintain good squatting methods. Also, try kneeling, Half Kneeling, and sitting on your heels
There is a no. of helpful garden products that assist with these positions, providing knee cushioning and something to push up off when going down. Be sure to stand, stretch up and backward, walk after being in these bent-over positions.

SWEEPING/RAKING:

These activities are great overall strengtheners. Use an exaggerated, wide base stance and keep your, head, shoulder, pelvis, balanced on the top of each other and facing in the same direction. Reach and pull with your legs and arms, not your back. Rake and sweep in different directions by pivoting your back leg and moving your whole body single, relaxed unit. After sweeping and raking, do neck strengthening and decompression and neck release exercises.

REACHING UP TO PAINT, PRUNE, AND CLEAN WINDOWS:

This can be good upper back, arm, and abdominal strengthener. Use ladder or step stool to keep from aching your low back and letting your abdomen and buttocks; stick out; make sure you keep your chest up, your pelvis level, and your head and neck in a neutral position. If you are uncomfortable after doing these activities try doing knee to chest neck strengthening and decompression, and/or release exercises.

DIGGING HOLES/ SHOVELING SNOW:
CAUTION:

These activities carry a high-risk aggravation and/re-injury of most neck and low back problems; they are not good form of exercises. If you have to perform these activities, avoid rounding out your spine and attempting to lift with your spine in a rounded position. Put your legs in a front to back step position and shift your weight through your legs. Keep your chest up and your buttocks sticking out that is squat instead of bend. Keep your arms flexed and lift by straightening your legs. When you start to get tired or sore stop! Stretch up and backward, walk and wait a while before continuing. Specially designed, bent-handled snow shovels make the job a little easier.

WASHING THE CAR:

This is a good strengthener for arms and legs if you attempt good bending methods. Especially helpful are oil derrick methods, squatting, and taking weight through both hands. Keep the low back relatively straight and relaxed, and work those legs by squatting and shifting.
