Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Ankylosing spondylitis is a chronic inflammatory joint disease which has a genetic predisposition. It is a spondyloarthropathy mainly affecting spine and hips. There is as such no permanent cure but symptoms can be kept under control by changes in lifestyle making it as active as possible, taking anti-inflammatory medications as required, regular physical therapy etc. Please get x ray pelvis with both hips - ap view so that I can see and advise accordingly. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Knee Ligament laxity if you have problem in your legs then it might be due to ligament laxity where your legs would become very weak due to the old ligament injury and that should be treated immediately. Wear knee cap so that you will feel firm while walking or climbing stairs. This is a general strain and for this you can follow these measures: one keep a pillow right under the knee while sleeping, next is you can keep ice in the painful area for about 5--10 minutes, if pain still persists you can stretch your body by twisting the waist on both sides how we used to do in the school drill similarly you can try! One time you can do hot water fermentation that would help to reduce the muscle strain.

Good Morning The ACL tear if avulsed from bone can sometimes heal but if torn in the middle then it rarely heals. The Meniscus depending on the region and duration can heal. You would need any allopathic or Ayurvedic medicines for that. Thanks.

The most common form of morning stiffness and pain is due to muscle imbalances and poor conditioning of the muscles themselves. Here are some tips for how to handle your back pain: -while sleeping, try lying in a curled-up, fetal position with a pillow between your legs. If you usually sleep on your back, place a pillow or rolled towel under your knees to relieve pressure. -find a mattress with back support. A good mattress should provide support for the natural curves and alignment of the spine. Medium-firm mattresses usually provide more back pain relief than firm mattresses. -do not perform activities that involve heavy lifting or twisting of your back -avoid bending forward and sitting in a place for long time -stretching and strengthening exercises are important. -a physiotherapist can tell you when to begin stretching and strengthening exercises and learn how to safely, easily, stretch and strengthen the weak and tight areas of your lower back and hips which cause pain while sleeping. Best wishes.

DO YOU HAVE ARTHRITIS

DO YOU HAVE ARTHRITIS
Arthritis prevention let's save our generation next from arthritis pain,
Says Dr. Sanjaykapoor, senior consultant orthopedics and joint replacement surgery.
.
.
Arthritis affects over 15% approximately 180 million people in india, which is higher than many well known diseases.
While much has been said about high incidence of diabetes, hypertension, cancer and hiv in india, recent studies suggest that osteoarthritis beats them all to claim the no. 1 slot among ailments in the country.
Contrary to the misconception that arthritis only impacts the elderly, this disorder is increasingly found in the younger population.
Age is not a factor for arthritis; it can affect young and old alike. Earlier, arthritis patients would be around 65 years or so, but now the younger lot in the age group of 40-45 yrs which is normally considered to be in their golden years are increasingly turning up for surgery.
Higher levels of stress coupled with modern day lifestyles are increasing incidence of arthritis.
.
.
The best way to beating arthritis is by staying active.
The key to arthritis management is finding balance between activities and rest-exercising, as too much may stress sensitive joints, while being too sedentary can cause stiffness and immobility.
Stretching and gentle movements such as yoga are easy on the joints and keep them fluid and supple.
.
.
Exercises such as riding a bike, swimming and water aerobics keep the heart healthy and muscles strong while putting too much pressure on the joints.
Low impact exercises allow you to work your muscles without stressing your joints. Stretching often increases muscle tone and can help boost the range of motion of your joints.
.
.
Just make sure you warm up your muscles and joints before stretching to avoid aggravating joint pain and strain your muscles. By varying activities and following a well-rounded exercise routine with variety can help to maintain strength and protect your joints. Maintaining a healthy weight can reduce stress on your joints, especially weight bearing joints like your hips and knees.
In addition, this can slow down the wear on your joints during daily activities such as walking.
When you have experienced a joint injury, protecting that joint will lower the chances of developing arthritis later.
By taking care not to injure the joint again, you may also decrease the intensity of symptoms should arthritis develop later. Remember always listen to your body, stop exercising if you experience sharp pain and don't try to work through joint discomfort.
Find activities that are gentle on the body and take them at a comfortable pace.
Lastly but not the least, drinking enough water keeps the cartilage in joints lubricated so bones don't rub up against each other.
By eating foods rich in vitamin c and e and calcium, you'll help build a musculoskeletal system that can outlast degenerative conditions.

In a free diagnosis camp, I got to know that I have osteoporosis (T score -3.5). Post this I got my full checkup done, all other tests are good except (Vit D 11.98) & B12 88) which are towards insufficiency end. Though my lifestyle was sedentary but I have picked up running in last 5 years and have run quite a few half marathons. I have left all this as I have developed foot pain and weight again increased post quitting running. After a gap of a year, I have again started workouts and I run 2 km 3-4 times a week and do 30 min walks daily, followed by workout. I do these exercises in park so get some sun exposure as well. I am 39 year old (Wt 85 kgs), my legs pains whenever I run fast now. Pls advise what should be done so that I can continue running long.

Dear lybrate-user, namaskar, you seem to do very well with your workout. Keep it up. Avoid running fast continuously. You can do that intermittently and increase the speed gradually. Secondly. Bmd test done in a free camp is a very crude sort of screening. If you wish, get bone densitometry done at a reputed radiology centre for exact assessment. You may take dv k-60 once a week and becosule twice a day for 3 months to compensate the deficiency reported. Take care.

Knee Pain: As arthritis is very common that you get generally bilaterally. Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. Simple Knee ExerciesSpecific knee exercises will also help ie. Keeping ball underneath the knee and keep pressing it. That's the simple exercise which will help you to strengthen the knee Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. I also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. Knee pain more than 2 weeks:if your knee is paining since 2 weeks, then you have to rethink whether you had any injury in the previous years. I also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. As arthritis is very common if anyone would've neglected any injury in the previous years. You can take Ultrasonic therapy in one of the nearby physiotherapy clinics which would help to heal the damaged cartilages along with shortwave diathermy which would help to improve the blood circulation. Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation.
