Keep him busy. Let him join some old peoples club or some such place. Let him play with grand children if any. He may do some daily chore like bringing vegetables or milk. Leaving school going children to the school bus etc. Or picking them up when they return. In short he should be feeling important and constructive.

Genetic factors do play a role, but they serve as a warning also, if father had a heart attack during youth, it is a reason for you to lead a healthy life, no smoking / exposure to pollution, eat well, avoid fats, eat more fruits and vegetables, keep weight under control, lead a stress free life, keep bp & sugar under control if high and eat minimum salt, avoiding every tinned/ packed food as salt is the preservative.

General Physician,
I am BP & sugar patient with cervical sopondyl for the last 16 years. Kindly advice me.
Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. It is a difficult task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (Self-Monitoring of Blood glucose – SMBG). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of Fasting sugar (FBS) and 2 hours after food (PPBS), & HbA1C (inform me) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ Insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & life style. For diabetes, hypertension (high BP) and many long-term illness control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner. For giving you regular follow up you ask me with all details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take. I assure you a proper guidance. If you keep in touch personally. My left side of chest is paining when I long breath since 2 days. What should I do? Is that a serious issue?

DNB (Respiratory Diseases), MD - Tuberculosis & Respiratory Diseases / Pulmonary Medicine, Diploma in Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases (DTCD)
Allergist/Immunologist, Thrissur
My left side of chest is paining when I long breath since 2 days. What should I do? Is that a serious issue?
Pain at the end of a long breathing in can be due to 3 reasons. 1. Muscle spasm or muscle injury to the small muscles in between your ribs or your back or upper abdomen. Muscle cramp like pain. Especially after lifting weight or unaccostomed play or work or fall on the floor. Take hot bath; rest for a few days and take paracetamol tablets. Sleep on hard bed. 2. Pleuritic pain. This is a catching type of pain when you take deep breath. 90 % of times it is self limiting and hot fomentation is good as well as paracetamol. If it persists for one week consult a doctor. 3. Back pain due to disc problem. For this also hot fomentation; rest and paracetamol is all that is needed. For your age 95% of times it will disappear next week. Do not worry.

Hello sir I am 33 year old man I have low blood pressure problem last five months what should I do please help me doctor.

MBBS, MD - Community Medicine
General Physician, Jaipur
Depending on the cause of your symptoms, your doctor may tell you to increase your blood pressure by making these simple changes: Eat a diet higher in salt. Drink lots of nonalcoholic fluids/ especially salty drink e.g. salty lassi, salty lemon water, et.c. Limit alcoholic beverages. Drink more fluids during hot weather and while sick with a viral illness, such as a cold or the flu. Get regular exercise to promote blood flow. Be careful when rising from lying down or sitting. To help improve circulation, pump your feet and ankles a few times before standing up. Then proceed slowly. When getting out of bed, sit upright on the edge of the bed for a few minutes before standing. Elevate the head of your bed at night by placing bricks or blocks under the head of bed. Avoid heavy lifting. Avoid straining while on the toilet. Avoid prolonged exposure to hot water, such as hot showers and spas. If you get dizzy, sit down. It may be helpful to keep a chair or stool in the shower in case you need to sit; to help prevent injury, use a nonslip chair or stool designed for use in showers and bath tubs. To avoid problems with low blood pressure and lessen episodes of dizziness after meals, try eating smaller, more frequent meals. Cut back on carbohydrates. Rest after eating. Avoid taking drugs to lower blood pressure before meals. If needed, use elastic support (compression) stockings that cover the calf and thigh. These may help restrict blood flow to the legs, thus keeping more blood in the upper body.
