Metabolic Syndrome - 5 Ways You Can Prevent it

The word metabolism is the manner in which food is processed and used by the body. Metabolic syndrome is a group of conditions, which are caused due to altered metabolism. They increase the chance of developing chronic conditions like heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity in a person.

When a person has one of these, it puts them at a higher risk of developing metabolic syndrome. However, lifestyle changes can help the onset of metabolic syndrome and reduce the gravity of the situation.

Factors that put you at risk of contracting a metabolic syndrome

There are 5 major risk factors, which can indicate if a person would develop a metabolic syndrome.

  1. Increased blood sugar: If the fasting blood sugar is consistently high, it could be the early indication of diabetes.

  2. Increased blood pressure: When the heart constantly exerts pressure to pump blood through the arteries, it can be damaging in the long run.

  3. Excessive fat around the waistline: Fat around the belly (pear shaped body) is more harmful than fat around the hips. This abdominal obesity is an indicator of metabolic syndrome.

  4. Abnormal cholesterol level: There are good and bad cholesterols (HDL and LDL respectively). When the HDL level is low, the chances of the heart to build plaque are increased, which can lead to heart failure, stroke, etc.

  5. High level of triglyceride: Increased triglyceride levels also put one at a higher risk of developing metabolic syndrome.

Complications: Some of the complications of having a metabolic syndrome include hypertension, diabetes, stroke, heart failure and fatty liver. It is a complicated and vicious cycle where there is increased pressure on all the vital organs, but they are unable to perform to their optimal levels. There is a narrowing of the blood vessels due to the plaque accumulation, which slows blood flow to all organs leading to the sluggishness of the whole system.

Prevention

While the bad news is that metabolic syndrome is on the rise with changing lifestyles, the good news is that with some planning and effort, it can be prevented and severity reduced. It requires discipline, commitment, and dedication.

1. Diet: Eating healthy with more of whole grains, less of red meat, loads of fresh fruits and vegetables, omega-3 fatty acids, and a heart-healthy diet can go a long way in managing the metabolism.

2. Exercise: Regular moderate exercise can help avoid accumulation of fat and burn the extra calories consumed.

3. Smoking: One should quit smoking, as it can help in many ways and helps in managing the body’s metabolism is one of them.

4. Alcohol: Avoid consuming excessive alcohol as it helps in managing body’s metabolism.

5. Stress management: Finding good ways to manage stress (be it music, meditation, yoga, or exercise) can help control harmful ways of stress management like drinking alcohol and smoking.

How to get reduce from frustration and stress? If a man want to successful with his dream then what to do?
He has to do meditation an yoga and get mind control and work to get his aims. Frustration and anger are fundamental emotions that everyone experiences from time to time. From a very early age, people learn to express frustration by copying the behaviour they see modelled around them, and by expressing frustration and angry behaviour and seeing what they can get away with. We all suffer from frustration, and being able to effectively deal with frustration is a very important skill to develop. Each person needs to learn how to control frustration, so that it does not control them. The following is a brief overview of types of frustration management programs and resources that have proved helpful in understanding and controlling frustration and anger. I have found several approaches to treatment that have been effective for my clients including: individual and group therapy for anger management. A therapist who can observe and analyse your behaviour from an impartial perspective, can help you with your reality testing. A therapist knows many effective frustration and anger management strategies and will be able to help you develop a personalized set of strategies for changing both your thinking and behaviour. Depending on your needs, your therapist may work with you on breathing or meditation exercises to reduce frustration, safe and appropriate emotional and physical techniques to release frustration, communication, or cognitive restructuring (a method for disputing and changing the way you think). Relaxation and exercise simple relaxation tools such as deep breathing and relaxing imagery can help calm down feelings of frustration and anger. Breathing deeply, from your diaphragm, will help while breathing from your chest won't relax you. While breathing, you can slowly repeat a calm word or phrase such as" relax" calm down" or" take it easy. Non-strenuous exercise, like yoga, can relax your muscles and make you feel much calmer. Strenuous and vigorous exercise can also help you to work off frustration and angry feelings. Frustration can have a highly damaging impact on our frame of mind. It can turn a positive person into a person who sees nearly everything as a problem. It can slow you down, inhibit your progress, and at times completely immobilize you. We can become so wound up with our frustration that we do not, and cannot, think or act rationally. Our frustration can often exacerbate a situation and create a vicious circle. If we are convinced that our actions are not working, no matter how hard we try, we are much more likely to reduce, rather than increase, our chances of success. Remember, you cannot eliminate frustration. In spite of all your efforts, things will happen that will cause you frustration and anger. Life is filled with frustration, pain, loss, and the unpredictable actions of others. You can't change that; but you can change the way you let such events affect you. If you feel that your degree of frustration is really out of control, if it is having an impact on your relationships and on important parts of your life, you might consider counselling to learn how to handle it better. Dear Lybrate User, *Siting an unpleasant pimple makes us want to pop it immediately to get rid of it. But touching and popping pimples can only accentuate the problem. Don’t let your hands touch your face very often. It can spread bacteria, cause infections or further more pimples which you certainly don’t want. *Consume more fluids, fresh fruit juice, vegetables. *Avoid more salt, maida, dry, junk foods.

You avoid too oily end ghee prepretions, fast food, junck food, fried, spacy foods. Take simpal veg food home made with salad, green vegitabales. Do arobic excersices, yoga, pranayam will help you. Wash face with neem face wash morning end night.

Consult a dentist, if there is dental decay then get the filling done. You may need an xray and if the decay is deep involving the pulp of the tooth then rct may be required.

Apply good sunscreen like photostable sunscreen gel/ sunmate sunscreen etc. - apply 2.5-3 ml sunscreen single application for whole face - repeat sunscreen every 3-4 hours till sunlight hours (up to 6 pm) - cover the face or wear cap/ hat while going out in sun - increase intake of food rich in vitamin c.

Follow the following tips:- · Pay attention to your health and food intake. · To increase your appetite, have a glass of lime water or 1 cardamom (elaichi) before your meal. · Have minimum 4 meals in a day. · Drink 1 glass of milk twice a day. · Try to enjoy your meals and gradually increase the quantity you eat every time. · A balance diet should have all essential nutrients in it. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It should include combination of Both Carbohydrates and Proteins for e.g. Oats with Milk or Poha/ Upma with a glass of milk. If you do not like milk have 1-2 egg whites in the morning along with your breakfast. · You need to focus on your protein intake : Increase your protein intake e.g. milk, dairy products- cheese, paneer, lentils (dals), nuts ( soya, peanuts, dry fruits ), pulses e.g. rajma, chole, kidney beans etc. sprouts. If you are a non-vegetarian, then you can have proteins by also eating eggs, chicken, fish. Make sure you are including at least 2 serving of any of these in your daily meal. · Lunch and dinner again should be a combination of Proteins, Carbohydrates and Fats which could have dal, roti, sabji/chicken, salad. · Please do have minimum 4 almonds or a small bowl of peanuts every day. · Please ensure that you drink at least 3 litres of water every day.

Hi All I have small doubt regarding to my mother health issues recently she got some pain near to her right side ovarian and as per MRI scan doctor found it's tumour, now they removed that successfully n sent that mass to pathology as per that report doctor confirmed it's Leiomyosarcoma and as per his words it's very rare cancer which will occur to an soft bones. Now here my doubt is few months back (January) my mother got treatment for her foot (diabetic foot also) at that time they sprayed some medicine which is made up of some platelets. Generally such kind of medicine will cause any side effects like above cancer since that medicine sprayed around wound good thing coz of that medicine her wound healed very fastly. As I am not from medicine background I am just expressing my doubt. So please someone clarify my doubt. I am not suspecting that doctor n medicine since it's research medicine so am expressing my doubt.

Leiomyosarcoma cancer is a tumor that occurs in smooth muscle cells, it can form anywhere in the body where there are smooth muscles, including the pancreas, heart, liver and digestive tract. The most common place physicians find leiomyosarcoma is the uterus. It is rarest of cancers which has no treatment. It is caused by genetic and environmental factors including radiation. But not as the cause you mentioned (doubtfully). As per homoeopathic approach all the diseases are caused by altered immunity from simple cold to cancer. So our approach is to find out the cause of this altered immunity which is her genetic make up. A consultatin is needed to study her genetic make up which makes her prone to get this kind of cancer. And a remedy has to be found out to correct it. Removing tumor is not a permanent solution as it may recurr.

Hello doctor, the problem is big, my sis was in depression since 2011, when we give her medicine she became normal, now a days from last 6 months she is not taking medicine. Now she remain so so much angry that she doesn't speak to anyone. She fights with mom and dad not only verbal also physical. She everyday destroy something. Like tv, table etc. What we need to do in this case. Pls help.

She is suffering from an anger-related depression. If you speak to the doctor, s/he will give you medicines that you can put into her food or drink without her awareness and that way get some response from her. Without medication, she can be a handful and you will not be able to manage her. Also, she must attend some counsel; ing from a professional and combine that with her medication. If you are older to her, I suggest that you take her out for brisk walks or some vigorous exercise, and if necessary you may need to force her too. Please visit these professionals along with her parents. In the meantime please make her do the following sincerely because you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest she is made to do the opposite of what this depression makes her feel like doing (actually, not doing): she will need to fight this condition. She must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer herself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose herself to some sunlight every day, at least, 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in her life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If she did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate her sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use her own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, she needs to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get her out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate her, all the hard word must come from her, and her cooperation with that person is very critical for her success. Be positive every day and learn to be contented with what she has. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.
