My child is infected by virus in blood. And as per blood test CRP is 149 mg/l. Now we have given for culture test ? Doctors not tellung wt is the problem fr my child.

MD, MBBS
Pediatrician, Cuttack
High CRP is pointing to bacterial Sepsis / inflammation. Consult Pediatrician without delay. Will need blood culture , Lumbar Puncture & CSF study to rule out Sepsis/ Meningitis.

Must Know Risk Factors and Complication of Scabies

MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy, MBBS

Must Know Risk Factors and Complication of Scabies

Scabies is a type of skin conditions that causes itching and rashes. This dermatological condition is caused by Sarcoptes scabiei, a microscopic mite. It is a contagious condition, which can spread through physical contact. An estimate shows that scabies infects over 300 million people worldwide per year.

This eight-legged microscopic mite creates a tunnel in the human skin and lays eggs in it. These larvae move under the surface of the skin and spread across the whole body, once hatched. Dogs, cats, and mice can also be affected by this disease. It usually takes 2-6 weeks for the symptoms to develop. Signs and symptoms of scabies involve itching, rashes, sores and thick crusts on the surface of the skin.

Some of the risk factors of scabies are:

- Scabies spreads through direct, prolonged skin-to-skin contact with a person who has mites.
- An infected person can easily pass scabies to his/her household or sexual partners. Scabies in adults is usually sexually acquired.
- The likelihood of scabies increases easily under crowded conditions, which involve close body and skin contact. Nursing homes, prisons, and several types of care facilities are sites of scabies outbreaks.
- Immunocompromised, elderly and disabled people also suffer from an increased likelihood of contracting this skin condition.

Complications of scabies include:

- Persistent and vigorous scratching can break the surface of your skin, which can lead to secondary bacterial infections. Impetigo, a superficial infection, is a quite common occurrence in such cases.
- Crusted scabies, the most severe form of scabies, can be common in certain groups. People suffering from diseases such as HIV or leukemia who have weakened immune systems as well as severely ill people have high risks of contracting this condition. This condition, also known as Norwegian scabies, is very contagious and also hard to cure.

If both of you do not have any medical problem like diabetes, hypertension or heart disease presently you plan to conceive and once you miss your periods now is the time Gynaecologist will ask for tests. Disc problem can be taken care of during last trimester of pregnancy. So be happy and plan your wonderful bundle of joy.

My daughter is 4 yrs old. When I am about to feed her anything she starts crying. It may b breakfast or lunch or dinner. Why does this happen with her? her weight is 15 kgs.

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
Her weight is in normal range. Probably like all anxious parents, you are trying to control her which she doesn't like. under this condition what else she can do? Tell me. Your anxiety makes you forget that she has a mind of her own, which would not like to be dictated by others.Live her alone, love her unconditionally. Let her exercise her choice about what, when and how to eat. Then she will be more receptive to your advice. Practice what you preach, eat everything in front of /with her, whatever you want her to eat. Hope this helps.

What is the proper treatment for sweets syndrome for the 3 years baby suffering from 3 months. Is it curable permanently. How much time it can take.

What is the proper treatment for sweets syndrome for the 3 years baby suffering from 3 months. Is it curable permanen...
The treatment of Sweet syndrome is directed toward the specific symptoms that are apparent in each individual. In some cases, Sweet syndrome may resolve itself with no treatment, although this can take weeks to months. The mainstay of treatment is with systemic corticosteroids. In most cases, treatment with low doses of corticosteroids such as methylprednisolone or prednisone has proven effective in eliminating symptoms, sometimes rapidly resolving symptoms. However, Sweet syndrome often recurs periodically despite therapy. For isolated lesions, local therapy may consist of topical corticosteroids (creams of gels) or directly injecting corticosteroids into the lesion (intralesional corticosteroid).
