My mother is diagnosing with multiple myeloma and bone metastases. She had haemoglobin of 10.4 and m -protien spikes of 4.27 with gamma globulin of 4.47 before radiation therapy. She has gone with radiation therapy for 11 days and a dose of bisphosphonate 3 days ago. 1) Is her treatment is going in right direction? 2) which food is best for her.

MD (Radiation Oncology), DNB (Radiotherapy)
Oncologist, Noida
She also needs chemotherapy /systemic therapy as myeloma is a systemic disease. Food should be normal home food with less oil and spices which makes it easily digestible. Give her synthetic feeds to cover up for calories in case her eating is inadequate.

Sir greetings. My mother aged 65 suffering from colon cancer. Identified in 3 Rd stage. Is it curable. What is the risk factor.

Colonic cancer is treated with multi modality approach with surgery at its core. In stage 3 diease still remains curable and hence it is advisable to seek opinion of an oncosurgeon to plan your treatment.

I have got root of tongue cancer. It is in the fourth stage. It is grade 2 and stage 4.

Oncologist, Mumbai
I will need to see you Clinically as well as the reports of MRI etc, to know as to why it is stage 4. If operable, better to operate upfront. If only base tongue cancer, we prefer chemoradiation for the same. If it is going to vallecula or hyoid, better to give chemotherapy and operate if good response. If advanced disease then palliative chemotherapy or chemoradiation is advised. If metastatic, then only palliative treatment in form of chemotherapy can be given.

My mom suffering with overian cancer, her age is 65 years old. She can take the 6 chemotherapys, doctor suggested surgery but she is not interested. I have a small doubt that her age will support the surgery ? after chemo doctor not given any medical support, is it surgery is necessary or not. Pls give you are valuable suggestions.

MD - Radiation Oncology, MBBS, DNB (Radiotherapy)
Oncologist, Howrah
The primary treatment of ovarian cancer is surgery. Whether surgery can be done or not, depends on many factors. If the tumor is inoperable due large size, it can be downsize by using chemotherapy. But after chemotherapy, surgery should be done. Survival of the patients treated without surgery is poor.
