There is nothing to worry. It looks like physiological only. However a consultation with a surgeon should be sought.

What are the most common skin cancers? What are the warning signs of skin cancer? What are the treatments for skin cancer? Is skin cancer becoming more common? What are some of the risk factors? What can we do to protect ourselves from the sun?

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Squamous cell carcinoma of skin are more common in our country rather than melanoma due to natural protection of our skin by melanin pigment. Warning signs are non healing ulcer or progressive increase in already existing mole. Treatment is most commonly surgery, otherwise if inoperable then radiation therapy or chemotherapy. No skin cancers are not so common as compared to head and neck cancer, You can apply adequate sunscreen before you are exposed to sun. Use umbrellas

My father in law diagnosed of myleoprofilerative disorder (essential thrombocytosis. His age is 71 years. Med oncologist suggested Hydab 500 and Zyloric  100 mg. Once count is normal stop the medicine. We are confused state. Please clarify our doubts. Cbc count Wbc 12k Platelets 14 lakhs Rbc normal range Blood Report: Jak 2 mutation is positive My question is First of all different between blood cancer Vs Myeloproliferarive Disorder? Is it curable by medication? Are there any surgery for permanent cure? Please suggest

DM - Clinical Haematology, MD - General Medicine, MBBS
Hematologist, Durgapur
Hi. First of all, essential thrombocythemia diagnosis requires bone marrow aspiration and biopsy test to confirm. If bone marrow study also confirms it as essential thrombocythenia, then hydroxyurea and aspirin, for life long is the treatnent of choice. Given the age of patient, he is high risk, so need these cytoreduction and antiplatelet therapy. The dose may need to be adjusted according the response and other complications. The disease entity is considered to be a chronic blood cancer amenable to medicine only and regular follow up, but the long term complications include leukemic transformation (developing blood cancer) and marrow fibrosis (drying up of marrow). Hope it will help you.

You are too young for taking medicines for sexual performance enhancement. Also the prostate has nothing to do with leakage of semen. Problems with your notions about sexual activity (masturbation or coitus) need to be addressed first.

I am 69 years old. I take medicines for BP and Prostrate. Of late I am not getting good erection. It does not sustain. Can you help me out what to do. Thanks.

Of late I am not getting good erection. It does not sustain...
At your age and with the medical conditions you have, you should be happy with the erections you have, harmonal therapy in your case is contraindicated as you already have a prostatic problem. Your prostatic condition may worsen with harmonal treatment. My suggestion is that you have to accept aging gracefully and try to adopt to the natural changes that a person of your age faces. If you are not satisfied with my answer please visit a urologist for further advice.

Colorectal cancer

Colorectal cancer has some factors associated with it such as alcohol and red meat consumption. Westernisation of dietary patterns familial history and environmental pollution.

The underlying cause is consumption of items like deep fried food are difficult to digest and the toxins stay in the colon which later develop into cancer.

I am 62 year old. In the uterus 2nd stage cancer. I want to know, if I treat it with radiotherapy, can it remove permanently for lifelong. If we cure with both then is possible the diseases is permanently clear for lifelong. And there is no chance to face problem of this type diseases in future.

MBBS, DNB (Surgical Oncology)
Oncologist, Delhi
For stage 2 uterine cancer the treatment of choice is surgery and based on the final report further radiation maybe required. Whereas for cervical cancer if it is early stage surgery is required and in stage II B onwards chemoradiation is the treatment of choice.

What are the signs and symptoms of cervical cancer and ovarian cancer if being away of sexual intercourse n not indulge in Otr sexual activity. So how easy way to know about it?

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear mam, cancer cervix may present as abnormal bleeding, it may be profuse intermenstrual or bleeding in between periods, discharge per vaginum, post menopausal bleeding, spotting after intercourse, back pain, abdominal pain etc. Ovarian cancers are mostly hidden for long as they may not produce any symptoms, mostly present as irregular periods, abdominal pain, distension or swelling of abdomen etc. Keeping away from sexual activity is no solution, only HPV related cervical cancer may be related to sex, but having safe sexual practice and getting HPV vaccination done you can prevent it. Personal hygiene is important. Both cancers can be detected early by screening health check up by PAP smear, CA 125 ultrasound abdomen, you can get this done annually for early diagnosis. Watch for any abnormal bleeding or irregular periods.

How do you remove the pesticides from broccoli which is very harmful and probably causes cancers?

Post Doctoral Research (Ph.D.) (A.M) (Oncology), Integrative Oncology for Physicians (MSKCC, N.Y, USA), Doctor of Natural Medicine (N.D/ N.M.D), Ayurveda (I) Cert., Advanced Strategic Management (APSM), B.E (Computer Sc. & Engg.), Clinically Relevant Herb-Drug Interactions (CME) - (Cine-Med Inc. Alternative Medicine Specialist, Bhubaneswar
Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking guidance. Well, you can wash it thoroughly with cold water 2 to 3 times that shall remove maximum of the pesticide residues. Also, washing with 2% salt solution will help remove the pesticides. Residues remaining, if any, shall get removed during the process of cooking. The above-mentioned risk of pesticide contamination is averted significantly/ totally, if one goes for organically cultivated fruits, vegetables and foods etc all.

Hie doctor. I was in a relationship for more den seven years. I am getting married to another guy. I want to operate vagina as it has expanded very much also my breasts are sagging. Please suggest some medicines n olso doctor for a check up.

M. Ch. (Plastic Surgery), MS - General Surgery, MBBS
Cosmetic/Plastic Surgeon, Noida
You will need both vaginoplasty (making vagina tighter and smaller) along with hymenoplasty. This is safe and there are no scars out side, after some time no-one can identify. Mere hymenoplasty can not tighten roomy vagina. You can consult a plastic surgeon.

MS - General Surgery
Oncologist, Ludhiana
If you want a definitive treatment and you are fit for a major surgery go for a major surgical procedure (pancreatico-duodenectomy). If you want only relief of obstructive jaundice go for ercp and stenting (cbd), this is a endoscopic procedure.

Suffering from urinary problems, due to enlarged prostate. I am now at Bangalore.

MBBS, DNB (General Surgery), MNAMS (Membership of the National Academy) (General Surgery) , Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery, Fellow of Indian association og gastro intestinal endo surgeons
General Surgeon, Ghaziabad
Suffering from urinary problems, due to enlarged prostate. I am now at Bangalore.
Prostate enlargement hinders in flow of urine as prostate naturally surrounds urethra the outflow track for urine. Isymptoms can be managed by medications but first cause of prostate enlargement should be ascertained. Cancerous cause has to be ruled out. Non cancerous cause can usually be managed by medicines only. Surgery is indicated if medical treatment fails or if cancer is suspected. For this evaluation detailed clinical examination including rectal examination, ultrasound kub and prostate, blood psa levels have to be done.

I am 62 years old. I have been applying hair dye for long time. Is it harmful? People say it leads to cancer! Pl help.
Hi Mr. lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking guidance. As far as I understand, not all dyes will potentially cause cancer. But some, dyes especially the semi-permanent and permanent ones, may have certain chemicals that are carcinogenic. One needs to consciously reduce exposure to such dyes to be on a safer side. You may as well choose a suitable natural hair dye instead. I declare no conflict of interest while I state the above-mentioned. Hope this clarifies. Do take care.
