It seems your friend is having sensitivity in his/her teeth. If it is in a particular tooth then kindly ask him to get an X-ray done of the tooth having sensitivity. May be root canal treatment has to be done followed by a cap/crown. If it is generalized then he will have to get scaling done and use an anti sensitive toothpaste for twice daily for 15 days. Ask him to brush his teeth twice daily using correct brushing technique to maintain his oral hygiene.

There are Obvious differences between men and women. But what you may not realize is that these differences extend into the world of dentistry and oral health as well. For instance, did you know that women are more likely to visit their dentist regularly, while men are more prone to visit only when something needs attention?Read on to discover more interesting facts about the differing oral health habits of men and women.Women brush more than men on average, women are over 8% more likely to brush their teeth twice every day than men are. 

Men skip brushing here and there while women prove to be more vigilant about their brushing habits. Women are also nearly 10% more likely than men to brush their teeth immediately after eating meals.Men put themselves at more risk than women. When it comes to keeping your mouth and overall health in check, there are certain things you should just stay away from. 

Chewing tobacco products, smoking cigarettes, over-consumption of alcohol, and exposing yourself to other carcinogens are extremely harmful activities that can result in many health issues, including oral cancer

Men are more likely than women to consume these kinds of carcinogenic products and do so at higher rates than women, which means they are more at risk of developing oral cancer, gum disease, and other health issues.

Women see the dentist more often Women are more likely than men to visit their dentist and, while they are there, make a future or follow-up appointment that they intend to keep. It’s been proven that men often visit their dental professionals only when it is absolutely necessary and therefore receive far fewer dental checkups and cleanings than women.Men experience more dental issues Because women are generally more proactive regarding maintaining their oral health and see their dentist regularly, they on average experience fewer dental issues such as gum disease, tartar buildup, and bleeding gums when compared to men. 

Often, oral diseases show very few warning signs that can be identified by someone who is not a dental professional. As men don’t necessarily see their dentist as regularly for screenings, problems such as gum disease, oral cancer, decay, and other oral health issues can sometimes go unnoticed until the disease has undergone advanced stages. For this reason, men have been proven to be more likely than women to develop these issues. This is why being vigilant about receiving regular dental checkups is essential in ensuring your ongoing health.Women often experience sudden spikes in oral issues 

As only women go through pregnancy and menopause, women of course experience more concentrated elevation and changes in general in hormones. This spiking of hormones can cause changes in oral health with nearly 75% of women developing gingivitis while expecting, and with some experiencing Burning Mouth Syndrome while going through menopause. Increased visits to the dentist during these times is a great way to keep oral health in check and have any concerns dealt with before they develop into larger issues. 

Men experience more tooth trauma It’s been proven that, in general, more men play sports that involve intense physical contact with other players such as tackle football, rugby, water polo, wrestling, and boxing. This greatly increases their chances of colliding with other people or sports equipment and chipping, cracking, or losing teeth altogether. 

These chances increase even more when coupled with the fact that men are less likely than women to wear mouth-guards or other protective gear when playing these activities. Having a mouth-guard fitted or buying one from a local pharmacy is the best way to protect teeth and jaw bones from damage like this.

Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. Kindly consult a physician & dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning & fill tooth cavities with artificial enamel filling. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too.: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

Dear lybrate-user, it is due to gum infection namely gingivitis. Higher the grade of disease higher will b d manifestation. Use tooth brush twice a day and do antiplaque mouthwash 2-3times a day may give you releif. If not satisfied visit a dentist near to you.

My mother age 63 has undergone angioplasty 3 years back. Now she has a problem in her tooth, doctor has suggested her for root canal. Before proceeding with the root canal doctor asked her to stop clopilet tablet for a week so that he can give related tablets and do his treatment. I requested you to provide your assistance. Usually for tooth extractions or oral surgical procedures sometimes it is required to stop medication but for RCT usually no medication has to be stopped. The doctor might prescribe antibiotics or painkillers. You must consult your cardiologist.

Hi, I am getting ulcer in my mouth very frequently, its like 4-5 times in a month which last for 3-5 days. Have no idea why its happening again n again. please suggest.

There are many reasons for ulcers for ex:- stress ulcer, drug allergy, systemic disease, multi-vitamin deficiency, stomach upset etc. I suggest you visit a dentist to find the etiology of ulcer for proper treatment.

TMJ disorders may cause mild to debilitating symptoms, such as: •pain while chewing •pain in the ear, face, jaw, and neck •clicking, grating, or popping sounds in the jaw when you open or close your mouth •locking of the jaw joint, headaches Exercises for TMJ pain relief 1. Relaxed jaw exercise Rest your tongue gently on the top of your mouth behind your upper front teeth. Allow your teeth to come apart while relaxing your jaw muscles. 2. Goldfish exercises (partial opening) Place your tongue on the roof of your mouth and one finger in front of your ear where your TMJ is located. Put your middle or pointer finger on your chin. Drop your lower jaw halfway and then close. There should be mild resistance but not pain. A variation of this exercise is to place one finger on each TMJ as you drop your lower jaw halfway and closed again. Do this exercise six times in one set. You should do one set six times daily. 3. Goldfish exercises (full opening) Keeping your tongue on the roof of your mouth, place one finger on your TMJ and another finger on your chin. Drop your lower jaw completely and back. For a variation of this exercise, place one finger on each TMJ as you completely drop your lower jaw and back. Do this exercise six times to complete one set. You should complete one set six times daily. 4. Chin tucks With your shoulders back and chest up, pull your chin straight back, creating a “double chin.” Hold for three seconds and repeat 10 times. 5. Resisted opening of the mouth Place your thumb under your chin. Open your mouth slowly, pushing gently against your chin for resistance. Hold for three to six seconds, and then close your mouth slowly. 6. Resisted closing of the mouth Squeeze your chin with your index and thumb with one hand. Close your mouth as you place gently pressure on your chin. This will help strengthen your muscles that help you chew. 7. Tongue up With your tongue touching the roof of your mouth, slowly open and close your mouth. 8. Side-to-side jaw movement Put a ¼ inch object, such as stacked tongue depressors, between your front teeth, and slowly move your jaw from side to side. As the exercise becomes easier, increase the thickness of the object between your teeth by stacking them one on top of each other. 9. Forward jaw movement Put a ¼ inch object between your front teeth. Move your bottom jaw forward so your bottom teeth are in front of your top teeth. As the exercise becomes easier, increase the thickness of the object between your teeth. Other ways to manage your TMJ pain Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen and acetaminophenmay help relieve TMJ pain. Muscle relaxers may be prescribed for severe pain. Doctors may also recommend: TMJ pain may also be managed with simple lifestyle changes. You may wish to: •eat a soft diet to allow the TMJ to relax •avoid chewing gum •avoid biting your nail •avoid biting your lower lip •practice good posture •limit large jaw movements, such as yawning and singing tips to reduce pain and help make sure your teeth and gums stay healthy: •Use a soft-bristle toothbrush or a sonic toothbrush. •Use a rubber tip stimulator or water flosser if you can’t open your mouth to floss. •Add an antiseptic mouth rinse to your daily dental care regimen. •Tell your dental care team if you’re in pain during a dental procedure. •Apply ice or heat after a dental procedure. •Talk to your dentist about ways to remove plaque other than flossing. For example, they may suggest wiping your teeth with cotton gauze.
