Knee replacement is a lifestyle surgery. If you have painful knees which are hampering your day to day activities or you have to take daily painkillers you should get them replaced. The advantages of a knee replacement are pain relief and deformity correction.

My MRI report is Minimal right knee joint effusion Partial tear of posterior cruciate ligament. Ligamentous sprain/ low grade partial tear of ACL Grade 2 medical signal (intrasubtance meniscus tear) in posterior horn of medial meniscus in right knee. So what treatment for it.

partial tears of the ligaments dont need surgery. You can use a knee brace for a couple of weeks for the acute injury effects to settle down. avoid high impact activities in the long term

Hand pain can be caused by many conditions. 1. Arthritis: Osteoarthritis or Rheumatoid arthritis can affect the small joints of fingers and wrist. There will be associated swelling of joints and nodules on fingers. 2. Tenosynovitis of the finger muscles. In this case finger movements will be painful. You might be suffering from this condition. 3. Vascular diseases like Raynauds phenomena , characterised by color changes of hand from Blue to red and vice versa on temperature changes. 4. Nerve entrapment syndromes cause hand pain along with numbness, tingling sensation and muscle weakness. 5. Fractures of small bones of fingers. 6. Infections of soft tissues or tendons of hands. Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. I think you may be having a strain or a tendinitis if there is no associated injury. Can you tell me whether you have any swelling, or any other s/s of inflammation etc? my advise will be initially to restrict your sporting activities, give adequate rest to limb till pain subsides, ice packs for local application, physical therapy and gentle anti inflammatory medications. Most of the patients will recover within 2-3 weeks with these measures but if your symptoms increase or do not subside, kindly contact me as we might have to investigate you and get some investigations done do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation. Thanks & regards

Hi Thanks for your query and Welcome to Lybrate. I am Dr Akshay from Fortis Hospital, New Delhi. Your father has a chronic back pain problem since 2 years and must be evaluated in detail. There are many causes of pain in lower back region. It can be due to faulty posture, related to weak muscles, issues with Intervertebral Disc, narrowing of Spinal canal, any Bony instability besides many other , so accurate diagnosis is the key to proper management of the condition. You will have to elaborate your problem as to a detailed discussion of your back pain which means duration of pain and mode of onset.I would also like to ask you if it is associated with any leg pain or any other neurological symptoms like numbness, paraesthesias ( electrical shock like abnormal sensations) or any weakness in limbs. Please also tell me about any associated symptoms like fever, weight loss etc. What medications you generally take and what has been your treatment history till now for existing problem. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation. I am 54 years old man. 2 years back I had pain in my left thigh. I could walk and run but on rotating or twisting the leg it would pain. X-ray indicated all normal. It was not localized at specific point on thigh. Doctors gave pain killers which I avoided. Pain was bearable. Since I travel by bus frequently, I presumed it could be because of that. The pain in thigh remand for a year moving from one spot to other by an inch only ( or can be said could not find specific point of pain on thigh). Suddenly one fine morning I had shooting pain on my right arm. I took pain killer that day and after 2-3 hours it vanished but next day the pain started on my left arm - bearable. This pain continued for few months. There was no pain in thigh. Now there is no visible pain any where but if I press with fingers the left toe (foot)in the top middle I feel sweet pain. This is for the past one month. Changed the shoes as well as wear loose shoes but slight pain is their. Bus travel is continuing. What is it all about. I believe some nerve get pressed behind my neck while travelling as I lean my neck on the back of the seat. Please give your advise.

Hello, thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am dr akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Please your symptoms actually do not correspond to any issues in the cervical spine per se because you have not mentioned any radiating pain in upper or lower limbs for a long period. Please kindly elaborate your problem as to a detailed discussion of your neck pain which means duration of pain and mode of onset. I would also like to ask you if it is associated with any radiation of pain in upper limbs or lower limbs or any other neurological symptoms like numbness, paraesthesias ( electrical shock like abnormal sensations) or any weakness in limbs. Please also tell me about any associated symptoms like fever, weight loss etc. What medications you generally take and what has been your treatment history till now for existing problem. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & regards Dr Akshay Kumar Saxena

I' m suffering from back pain problem and i'm just 20 years old I sleep on floor in my home is that a reason for back pain. If not then how should I get rid of it.

Erasmus Mundus Master in Adapted Physical Activity, MPT, BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Chennai
This is a general low back ache and for this you can follow these measures: one keep a pillow right under the knee while sleeping, next is you can keep ice in the painful area for about 5--10 minutes, if pain still persists you can stretch your body by twisting the waist on both sides how we used to do in the school drill similarly you can try which will help you relax as well will reduce the pain. It looks like you are anaemic. If you have back pain after you sit for long hours then it is due to your haemoglobin levels as it is important to check that. Anaemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having back / leg pain though there may not be any pathological reasons for back pain.
