Dear madam, as you said, you have your own emotions and he is behaving like a dumb. May be he might have got married to use your money also to enjoy with his girlfriend without knowing anyone around him. He will not let you to leave the home, coz he needs your money. I guess that he is not getting satisfaction out of your relationship. First of all, ask him what bothers him not to have a peaceful life with you? is that the money or the extramarital relationship? if he decides for sure that he doesn't want to lead life with u, stop giving him money or your salary. Tell him that you want the money for your safety as he decided to leave. Tell his parents that he is in contact with another lady so that he is not having proper personal life with u, it is important because he may think of situations to transfer his mistakes on you. Tell your brother and mother that this what the situation is going on. Do not stay with him! coz without his knowledge or by any situational chance if you get pregnant, do you think that he will take care of you? if you say yes, then will try to give him a chance to learn from his mistakes. But if your mind says that he will never regret for his mistakes, then it is the time for your call. Coz you have ask questions in your mind that does he prepare his mind for the child in future? does he spend time and money for the upbringing of your child? so you need to walk away from that place dear. If your family members forces you to get married to the next person, then think of it! meanwhile focus on your job and earn some money for your future safety. Learn from this mistake that do never give your personal valuable things like passbook and jewels to anyone whom you r going to live with unless you have full faith in him.

How can we make our skin glowing. I used to drink amla juice few days ago for last two months, now I stopped drinking it. Now I use to drink 5-6 litre water daily. I don't like applying paste, scrub, face pack, etc. It makes me annoying and irritating! So, Sir/mam how can we make our skin glowing? Can only water make my skin to glow? Or should I follow some other things? I don't know other things so please suggest me something like water which make my skin to glow, instead of applying anything on the face!

For a good and glowing skin, take a proper sleep, plenty of water./ do not step out in the sun, without wearing a sunscreen. Nutritious diet rich in antioxidants (green vegetables and fresh fruits) and avoidance of stress will help. Depigmenting cream or facewash can be recommended to you for improving your condition depending upon your specific hyperpigmentation problem/ skin type.

You should never discontinue medication on your own even if you are feeling better. Consult your doctor and if you are not happy with that person go for a second opinion. In the meantime meet a counselor too and get a lot of help regarding handling the daily stresses and challenges with some skills and techniques. If you look too far into the future, you will be scared. Most of what you are scared about does not happen: as I remember in the last count 90% of what we worry about will not happen. In fact, if you look back and see from all the worrying you have done so far, has any of those things really happened? In other words, we simply trouble ourselves. There may be another contributor, and that is if there were any past influences that have made your system prone to anxiety. You will need to check into your background for that information. When you do find out meet with a counselor and work this out. You must also develop your constitution to make it fit enough to cope with fear, felt many times unnecessarily. You may be taking normal fear and converting it into abnormal fear like anxiety and so on. Take care of the following: Mental stability can be achieved by learning a few skills in handling emotions in an appropriate manner. Stress management skills, which have a lot to do with expressing emotions, will need to be a major part of your recovery program. Emotionally you need the help of a counselor and that will help you tremendously to move from anxiety to normal fear. Please persevere and cooperate through all the support you need and you will come through successfully. Develop your body’s health by physical fitness through exercise, good rest (sleep), and a proper diet. Anyway, what you need to focus on is to do vigorous exercise of the aerobic kind for the heart’s fitness; meditation for the brain’s fitness; sleep for a well rested mind and body; a sound spiritual well-being for good confidence and stability; and a diet with lots of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Vigorous exercise, especially of the callisthenic kind, will make your heart, which is a muscle, grow larger; and then your heart will need to beat less often and you will respond to the anxiety with a calmer disposition. If your mind, constitution, and your emotions are in check and fit, you will never be disturbed again. The earlier you tackle this, the easier it is going to be. You can also take this measure: To slow your heart beat breathe deep and slow into your diaphragm, it utilizes an extra 80% of your lungs to absorb more oxygen. The heart beats faster due to more oxygen requirement and slow breathing also will reduce stress.

Follow these simple steps to ensure a good sleep every night and stay away from sleep disorders and other health problems associated with unhealthy sleep habits: 1) maintain a regular sleep routine - try to get at least 6 to 7 hours of uninteruppted sleep at night time Go to bed at the same time. Wake up at the same time. Ideally, your schedule will remain the same (+/- 20 minutes) every Night of the week. A good sleep hygiene routine promotes healthy sleep and daytime alertness. 2) avoid sleeping during the daytime. It can disturb the normal pattern. 3) avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol near bedtime. While alcohol may speed the onset of sleep, it creates problems in he second half of sleep. 4) exercise can promote good sleep. Exercise should be taken in the morning or late afternoon. Yoga, can be done before bed to help. 5) have a quiet, comfortable bedroom. Set your bedroom thermostat at a comfortable temperature. Generally, a little cooler is better than a little warmer. Turn off the tv and other extraneous noise that may disrupt sleep. Background 'white noise' like a fan is ok. If your pets awaken you, keep them outside the bedroom. Your bedroom should be dark. Turn off bright lights. Have a comfortable mattress. 6) avoid heavy meals close to bedtime. 7) ensure adequate exposure to natural light. 8) avoid emotionally upsetting conversations and activities before trying to go to sleep. Do not think of, or bring your problems to bed. 9) stop using all your digital devices and stop looking at digital screens be it mobile phones or televisions at least 1 hour before the time you plan to sleep. Instead try reading a fiction book near bedtime so it makes you help relaxed and de-stressed. Sleep well live healthy and live longer. If you have tried all these and still have problems, please consult me for prescription medication.

Dear lybrate-user, You are only 31 years old. You seem to be having both alcohol and sexual problem. Stress need not be controlled by alcohol alone. There are other methods of stress management. Both loose erection and quick evacuation may be due to lack of proper blood supply to penis. You need to get your blood sugar, BP, lipids and heart checked up. If anything is disturbed, it needs to be corrected. Alcohol increases your desire to have sex and takes away the performance. Please ask your wife whether it is lack of sex or alcohol and late return from work bothers her more. If you stop alcohol, you may spend some quality time with your wife. She will be happy and help you to get better erection and delayed ejaculation. With all the reports come online text or audio.

Dear Lybrate User, It is not clear how you came out of severe depression. If you were under some medication, then it is possible that these medicines have affected your sexual desire and erection. Please talk to your Doctor (who prescribed these medicines to you) about it. Since you have taken it probably only for a year there might not be any permanent damage. I would suggest - please talk to a Counsellor. Only medicines may work temporarily, in case of depression. But if you seek counselling help, you will be treating the root cause of your depression. You need to have regular counselling sessions. The Counselling sessions will help you to modify your thoughts so that you are out of depression and will have more self confidence. Many of the sexual problems are because of emotional issues and not any physical defects. Your present sexual problems might get resolved when you start feeling happy and confident. Please talk to a Counsellor at the earliest. Take care.

I am a patient of DM, IHD, PPM, HTN. taking regular medicines. What will be my ideal diet? My age is 72 years.
I hope every condition is under control. Ideal diet is not according to charts. You eat according to your constitution without comparing with others. No sugar or sweets, no bad fats, only good fats like a spoon of pure ghee/ butter and a katori of assorted nuts. Minimal salts and no packaged food as it contains lots of salt, being a preservative. Lemon juice with honey but cut down on other calories (just 30 cals in a spoon of honey) it helps to burn the fat and sugar. Fruits like guava, orange, apple can be had. Exercise like walking also burns sugar and fats.

Side Effects of Cannabis on Mental Health

M.D Psychiatry , MBBS
Psychiatrist, Delhi
Side Effects of Cannabis on Mental Health

Cananbis Sativa is a hemp plant, which creates a variety of drugs including marijuana. This plant has an active ingredient known as THC that makes a person feel high upon ingestion. The compounds of this ingredient can also affect the way a person's body functions. Usually, high doses of this can cause potentially life threatening effects on the person. It is mostly ingested in the form of dried leaves, flowers, stems and seeds. People also mix it in vapourisers, or brew it as tea. It may also be baked as cookies.

While the physical side effects are many, smoking or ingesting this substance can also lead to many mental side effects. Let us find out more:

  • Physical Side Effects: As per various medical studies, the inhalation or ingestion of Cannabis can take your heart rate to an increased level of two times its normal rate. This state can last up to three hours. Also, people who have had very high doses or suffer from this increased heart rate for a prolonged period may die due to a sudden cardiac arrest. Dizziness and shallow breathing are also a part of the side effects while dilated pupils and red eyes may also be seen. Further, a sudden spike in one's appetite and a dry mouth are some of the other side effects.
  • Cravings: A person who has ingested Cannabis may experience many side effects that are on the mental and emotional side. The more mild side effects include the experience of cravings for certain types of food, as well as an increase in one's appetite where the person does not manage to keep track of what he or she is eating, and in what quantity. Also, sleeplessness and irritability may set in.
  • Mind and Mood Changes: After Cannabis ingestion, the person may feel extremely happy or extremely sad. Either which ways, the patient will feel a sense of detachment as far as reality goes. While he or she may not be acutely aware of the same, the people around the patient will be able to sense this with the words and actions of the person. The patient may also experience a distorted sense of time and motion, while depression and anxiety may also set in with prolonged abuse of this drug. Short term memory impairment may also take place, which can lead to forgetfulness regarding important details. Also, random thinking and strange fears may begin to plague the person in question.

You are on multiple medications as well as you have medical comorbidity. It is advisable you discuss this matter with your treating psychiatrist as they are aware of your medical background. There is risk of interaction between medicines leading to adverse side effects if all information is not taken into account. It is better to consult your Psychiatrist in person regarding this matter.
