Curd vs. Milk- how should you get your daily dose of calcium?

Calcium is an essential mineral that is required by the body for various functions. It is used for building and maintaining strong bones and teeth. It is also used in the cardiovascular and nervous systems for preventing all kinds of health conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, lyme disease, etc.

It is, thus, extremely necessary to have calcium-rich foods as a part of your daily diet. Dairy products constitute as the primary source of calcium on an everyday basis. Of these, milk and curd are the two most important. But in case, you're wondering which one of the two is better for you, read on to find out.

Calcium content

There has been much debate about which is the better source of calcium - milk or curd. In very simple terms, milk ranks higher than curd in terms of calcium content. 100g of milk contains around 125mg of calcium, whereas 100g of curd has a lower calcium content of approximately 85mg. So if you really want to up your calcium intake, milk will be a better choice.

Other health benefits

If one is to take into consideration other health benefits provided by these two food products, curd takes the lead by a landslide.

Following are the known benefits of curd:

- It is far easier to digest

- It is a suitable dairy product for those who are lactose intolerant

- It cleanses the digestive tract

Hi lybrate-user, at the age of 19 you are suffering from knee pain which means you have been injured somewhere for which you are not aware. In such case I would recommend you to go for ice packs with quadriceps exercises. Start with isometrics and then progress to strengthening. If pain increases during the treatment (exercise) then please consult any near by doctor and go for proper investigation.

Hii lybrate-user. I think (1) you should take more fatty or starchy foods (2) take bigger plate. If you do exercise and not taking enough food then it could occur (3) take dry fruits whenever wants (4) take weight gainer shake (5) take milk shake (6) 3-4 banana each day (7) take extra chicken, egg, butter, cheese, almond, peanut, starchy foods etc (8) do muscle building exercises.

Hi your height can grow till 25 year take following remedies 1. Flax seed powder 1 tsp after lunch and dinner with warm water 2. Lakshadi guggul 2 tab twice a day 3. Ashwgandha churna 1 tsp with milk at 6.30 pm exercise 1. Swimming 2. Skiping 3. Pull-ups 4. Suryanamaskar when you are trying to gain weight, you should eat food the rich in vitamins and minerals. 1. Healthy food includes meat, egg, milk, fruit vegetables, fruits, and nuts. Cashews, almonds, dates, walnuts, dry grapes, apricots, peaches are some of the dried fruits and nuts that can be added to breakfast, salads, cereal and desserts. Hello, this may be because of acidity/ indigestion/ gas you can take 1. Tablet Meftal spas one tablet stat after food 2. Tablet Pantocid 40 mg before food once a day for 2-3 days. And follow care advises given below. Avoid food from outside, junk, fried, spicy fatty food take home made light food like moong dal, Dalia, chapatti also tell me associated symptoms like vomiting sensation, loose motion/ burning sensation in chest or any other symptoms are present or not? so that we can reach diagnosis

You are at the appropriate age to do any physical activity. However the male muscle building hormones peak at around 21-22. So I would suggest you to do intense weight training at that time as it will give you better results. In the mean time just do light weight training or body weight training. Or you can do athletics to make your body more prepared for heavy weight training.

I have a thyroid problem since July 2014. My T3 & T4 is normal but my TSH level is high in 2015 it was more than 150 after taking medicine it came down to 72 but now I done my thyroid test it is same for the 7 months and I am not able to concentrate in anything feeling very tired and lazy please suggest treatment.

Hi, I'm a 14 year old girl. And I just want to ask what are really the effects in not eating at the right time. Example I sleep in 11pm-12am then wake up at 10/11am in the morning, surfing on the net in a while then at exactly 11 I first drink some soft drinks then in a few minutes again ate my breakfast then didn't ate lunch then again drink another soft drink and at the evening I ate just less amount of food and drink soft drinks again/ate some cold popsicle sticks. Hye. Thank you for your query. You definitely need to rectify your lifestyle. This is a classic eating habit that can lead to many health disorders. You are young and your body needs clean and healthy food for growth. You need to start eating right. Stop all junk foods. Eat breakfast within an hour of waking up. Skipping meals will cause craving for junk foods. Eat every 3 hours. Take mid meals of nuts, fruits dairy. Avoid late dinners. Stay hydrated. Internet use should be curbed. Keep a certain time limit of internet use. Avoid late night use of mobiles and net.

Eating lots of calories, protein and nutrients and weight-training at least four times a week.Every few weeks, try your exercises with a different grip or slightly modulated position. This will engage different muscle groups you may have neglected. Eat 5-6 small meals a day and Eat protein-filled snacks before or after a work out, such as Milkshakes, yogurts, or fish. A good diet is essential to healthy weight gain. Protein 2 scoop+daily and exercise for an hour hour and drink lots of water. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The reason of not gaining weight are * improper diet * indigestion (disease of stomach, loose motions) * worms in intestine * thyroid disorder * diabetes *addiction (smoking or alcoholism) dear you can easily gain weight and get a healthy muscular body by following these best things - 1. To gain weight, your digestion should work properly. If you have any disease of digestive system you should treat disease first. For proper digestion - take 10 gms powder of carom seeds (ajwain, 10 gm powder of cumin (jeera), 10 gm of rock salt. Mix them well and take 1/2 teaspoon (3-5 gm) of mixture daily after meal. 2. Hi rupen der If you didn't counter any problems in 2 years since injury, may be it was partial tear or minimal one which may have healed without residual laxity of knee to give symptoms of weakened knee during movements. So nothing to fear now. No, you won't need arthroscope examination at all, ad of now, neither future need for any knee replacement. Those who had to undergo TKR may have had complete rupture of ACL with association of meniscal injuries leafing to post traumatic osteoarthritis or degeneration of knee joint heralding replacement. Dear patient., Taking supplement/medicine is not permanent solution for weight problem. Dear patient, calorie dense food should be incorporated in your diet like dried fruits, potato, sweets, nuts, jam jelly, banana or mango shake, porridge, badam kheer etc. leafy vegetables should be restricted in your diet as they reduce appetite. you should take 3 major meals a day and snacks in between. butter, margarine should be taken.
