You might have developed Shin splint. The most common site for shin splints is the medial area (the inside of the shin). Anterior shin splints (toward the outside of the leg) usually result from an imbalance between the calf muscles and the muscles in the front of your leg, and often afflict beginners who either have not yet adjusted to the stresses of running or are not stretching enough.  when shin splints strike you should stop running completely or decrease your training depending on the extent and duration of pain. Then, as a first step, ice your shin to reduce inflammation. Here are some other treatments you can try: Gently stretch your Achilles if you have medial shin splints, and your calves if you have anterior shin splints. Also, try this stretch for your shins: Kneel on a carpeted floor, legs and feet together and toes pointed directly back. Then slowly sit back onto your calves and heels, pushing your ankles into the floor until you feel tension in the muscles of your shin. Hold for 10 to 12 seconds, relax and repeat. Make sure you wear the correct running shoes for your foot type specifically, over pronators should wear motion-control shoes. Severe over pronators may need orthotics. Have two pairs of shoes and alternate wearing them to vary the stresses on your legs. Please visit a physiotherapist to identify and treat issues in your legs or running mechanics that may be causing pain. A therapist can also help ease the pain and guide your return to sport. Best wishes.

My mom having joint pains in both legs from last three months. What should I need to do for my mom?

My mom having joint pains in both legs from last three months. What should I need to do for my mom?
May be osteo arthritis. Let her try reduce wt. As strain of carrying body wt will come on leg and knee joints.* walking regularly at slow pace without unduly straining helps as it improves blood circulation around knee and eases the joint. *you can use mustard oil for massage which is good in winter season for relieving pain. Eucalyptus oil is also good homoeopathy has a good treatment for this without adverse effects. Take bryonia 200---twice daily morning and evening and give feedback after 7 days.

Knee Pain: As arthritis is very common that you get generally bilaterally. Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. Simple Knee ExerciesSpecific knee exercises will also help ie. Keeping ball underneath the knee and keep pressing it. That's the simple exercise which will help you to strengthen the knee Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. I also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. Knee pain more than 2 weeks:if your knee is paining since 2 weeks, then you have to rethink whether you had any injury in the previous years. I also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. As arthritis is very common if anyone would've neglected any injury in the previous years. You can take Ultrasonic therapy in one of the nearby physiotherapy clinics which would help to heal the damaged cartilages along with shortwave diathermy which would help to improve the blood circulation. Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation.

I got my ankle twisted on 5th october. The x-ray showed no bone fracture and the doctor said its a ligament injury. I was having a temporary plaster for 7 days. After that I used crap bandage to walk. But then also I was having pain so consulted another doctor and he put an ankle cast for 15 days then also I didn't got any relief. So I consulted another doctor in my hometown so he told me to cut the cast and start physiotherapy. Its been almost 2 weeks of therapy. I hav some relief but I still didn't got that confidence of being fine. I am totally confused right now. I don't know how much more time it will take.

Please don't get confused. 1. Your present line of treatment is correct continue with physiotherapy AND add treatment below. 2. Take Ultrasound therapy 1 MHz, 1.2 W/cm2, 6 min 3. Contrast bath 2 times a day. {ask your physio a method} 4. Wear ankle support. 5. Elevate your leg while sleep with pillow beneath. 6. Don't do exercise which is painful. 7. Be patients because ligament injury takes time to heal. Hope to get will soon.

Now days I can not sit for bajrashana even I find difficulty while using Indian system toilet.in my right leg.

MCh Ortho, ATLS (AIIMS), Diploma In Orthopaedics (D. Ortho), MBBS, MS - Orthopaedics
Orthopedist, Kolkata
Now days I can not sit for bajrashana even I find difficulty while using Indian system toilet.in my right leg.
Sitting in bajrashan and in Indian style toilets is not good for your knees. It demands very deep flexion in the knees. This in turn causes immense strain on your knee cartilage. In some people the cartilage is not healthy enough to sustain this amount of force and gets further damaged. Repeated injury will only make your knees prone to early arthritis. Gentle knee exercises and walking is good for you.
