It depends on the extent of liver and kidney damage. If its severe, insulin is the safest option as oral medicines may not be allowed. But if the problem is not major, she can be controlled by tablets. In either case, dietary changes are also required.

Mr. Lybrate-user, blood glucose level of 451 mg is too high. It is better to use insulin injections to control that level. Otherwise there can be very severe complications related various organs. Oral drugs may not be benefiting much. Thanks.

uric acid is produced when the body breaks down a chemical called purine. Purine occurs naturally in your body, but it's also found in certain foods. Uric acid is eliminated from the body in urine. A gout diet may help decrease uric acid levels in the blood. While a gout diet is not a cure, it may lower the risk of recurring painful gout attacks and slow the progression of joint damage. Medication also is needed to manage pain and to lower levels of uric acid. Purpose a little history uric acid: manage high uric acid with nutrition saturated fat, trans fat, sugar and alcohol all these affect your triglycerides, a type of fat that can clog your arteries and increase your risk for heart attacks and strokes. Uric acid: manage high uric acid with nutrition high-fructose corn syrup this is a type of sweetener in soft drinks and other processed foods that can elevate your levels of triglyceride and uric acid - a chemical associated with diabetes, gout, alcoholism, kidney disease and other health problems. Uric acid: manage high uric acid with nutrition limit meat, poultry and fish - animal proteins are high in purine and this will result in high uric acid levels in the body uric acid: manage high uric acid with nutrition t limit or avoid alcohol alcohol interferes with the elimination of uric acid from your body. Drinking beer in particular has been linked to gout attacks. If you are prone to uric acid attacks, limit alcohol consumption to one drink three times a week. Uric acid: manage high uric acid with nutrition t choose complex carbohydrates eat more whole grains, fruits and vegetables and fewer refined carbohydrates such as white bread, cakes and candy. Hi. My thyroid level is 4.57. Since im trying for pregnancy doctor said its high. Can you pls suggested me how much MG thyroxine tab do I need to take daily to reduce my thyroid level.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. If you are desiring to have conception, then TSH should come down to 2 mU/L. If you are already on thyroxine then increase the dose by about 12.5 mcg daily, then check TSH after 6 weeks, if the desired level is reached, then continue the same dose. EVen during pregnancy TSH should be maintained around 2 m U/L. If you have any doubts please do come back. Thanks.

Normally fasting blood sugar is upto 100 mg - 118 mg. After food 126 to 140 mg% is generally ok. Regularly have blood sugar at early morning fasting, 2 hours after morning principal meal and just before dinner inform your doctor about these readings if they are too less or too high than range given above. Get average sugar levels estimated by hba1c once in 3-6 months which should be around 6.5 and less than 7 keep it at these levels.

I have sugar level of 122 before fasting. Can I reduce that in a week time. And also if we have neem leaf will the sugar level reduce immediately.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)

Just stop taking extra sugar in your diet and start brisk morning walk for 30 minutes. You will be able to control it. I dont know whether neem leaf will reduce sugar levels but neem leaves have many medicinal values. So if you want to eat neem leaf then no harm, it will benefit you in some way or the other.

What all food we can eat if you are diabetic?
Like to know the future, vegetables and non veg product which we can have.
Mr. Lybrate-user, a diabetic person has to take a balanced but restricted diet, which should include carbohydrates (50 to 55 %), fats (25 to 30 %) & proteins (15%. Most important is total caloric intake, it has to be based of ideal body weight (54 kgs), sugar levels and extent of daily exercise. You should avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, sweetened aerated drinks, fructose corn syrup containing products and highly processed foods. Also avoid red meat, egg yolk, saturated fats. Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads, permitted fruits (100 g a day). Use whole grain products and whole grain flour for chapati and roti. Do not use maida. Avoid alcohil and smoking. Non veg items could be once or twice a week like lean meat, chicken and fishes.

Every morning im taking bitter gourd juice as im diabetic. Iis it good for diabetes. How it works.
Mr. lybrate-user, For diabetes only known medicines are from modern medicines. Others are claimed to be beneficial, but not proven clinically. May be helpful as an additional therapy. Hence, if strict control of blood glucose has to be achieved then appropriate medication in correct dose is a must. Plus diet and exercise also play equally important role. Thanks.
