Lybrate-user, as mentioned hypothyroidism treatment has to be for lifetime. There is no option. There are no other remedies. In fact on treatment tsh levels should be around 3 to 4 milli units / ml, then only all the symptoms including hair loss will be under control.

First get your blood sugar tested in fasting sample and 2 hrs after meal and get the diabetes possibility out of the way.... That is easy and cheap. Don't waste time worrying about it.

Hello sir, if you are taking insulin then don't skip your meal take 3 major meal & 2-3 small meal/ snacks. In traveling time you should carry some food items like roasted chana, sprouts, salad like cucumber, salty lassi or butter milk. Avoid simple sugar / simple carbs. Take high fiber diet it will help you in constipation. Take 4-5 meal of vegetables & salad. Don't forget to take sufficient water. Do regular walk/ exercise/yoga or any other physical activity. One most important thing take sufficient amount of food after taking insulin otherwise it can cause hypoglycaemia (low sugar). So always carry some toffee/sugar or any other sweets.

If it's fasting then it is high. If it's post prandial (after eating) it's okay. So interpret accordingly. Thanks.

Tsh is 26 against a max. 0f 5. Esr 15 against max. Of 7. These tests were done when complained of ibs. I am taking medicines for thyroid. For ibs what should be done?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
you can take medicines for thyroid..tab. thyronorm 150 mcg before meal.and for ibs you cut out such items as carbonated beverages, vegetables — especially cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower — and raw fruits.Fiber supplements. Taking fiber supplements, such as psyllium (Metamucil) or methylcellulose (Citrucel), with fluids may help control constipation. Fiber obtained from food may cause much more bloating compared with a fiber supplement. If fiber doesn't help symptoms, your doctor may prescribe an osmotic laxative such as milk of magnesia or polyethylene glycol.

Sangeetaji, Thanks for the query. Looking at your weight and height it is clear that there is grade 2 obesity with a BMI of 36.29 kgs/M2 (normal <23kgs/M2). One of the reasons could be uncontrolled hypothyroidism. There is no mention about current TSH level and thyroxine dosage. When on treatment TSH should be maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L, to be free from all the symptoms plus even to succeed in weight reduction. So please see that TSH is maintained in the prescribed limit. Secondly there has to be a sincere effort to reduce weight through exercise and diet control plus maintaining TSH as prescribed. Thanks
