Hello, Thanks for the query. TSH value of 28 mU/L is too high. It signifies that there is uncontrolled hypothyroidism. With such high levels all the symptoms of hypothyroidism will reappear. Ideally when on treatment with Levothyroxine TSH should be maintained <3 mU/L. Then only there will be no symptoms of hypothyroidism. What it means is the present dosage is inadequate. It has to be increased and TSH needs to be checked after 6 to 8 weeks to see if desired level is achieved. Thanks.

Dear lybrateuser, - Diabetes is the increase in blood sugar of the person - it could be type 1 wherein there is lack of insulin production by the pancreas & type 2 ( more commonly found) wherein insulin is produced but there is a problem with its utilization by the body cells, in both cases the blood sugar increases.

I have high tsh and normal t3 and t4. The report says I have mild subclinical hypothyroidism. I have done the test twice and got the same result. What measures should I take with respect to my diet, exercise and sleep? Also is it possible to cure it completely? I'm 42 and female. What other health risks should I look out for? Thank you.

You need to start the medication if not started, If already on the medication then you need to increase your current dose. You will need to reduce your weight by following a proper diet & doing regular exercise... however that can happen only once your TSH is normalised.

Sir I am a diabetes patient please tell me how am I recovered/control without medicine.
Hye, Thanks for the query. Firstly medication is needed initially to manage the high sugar levels. Then start by following healthy lifestyle and you can slowly reduce medication. For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - The sugar levels will fluctuate depending on what you ate or did not eat, stress levels and activity levels. You have to try and manage a balanced carb intake. Have small frequent meals. Do not fast for long hours. Your diet must include whole grains, seasonal fruits, vegetables, small amounts of nuts and dairy and pulses or dals or lean meats like chicken or fish and egg. Starchy vegetables need to be planned into the diet. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Exercise and stay active. Avoid exercise if sugar levels are above 250 mg/dl. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.

I hope that blood pressure and blood sugar levels are under control. Only thing bothering you is lack of sleep. Take a glass if warm toned milk with a spoon of honey added to it. Take care about rest of calories, you can balance by deleting other items worth 200 call in this milk food. Listen to soothing music, read good books, don't watch violence on tv. Meditation before sleep helps.

You have not mentioned about dosage of medications. You should get Blood sugar done 1. Fasting, 2. 1 1/2 hours after a principal meal and also 3. Before dinner Another test done in good laboratories is HbA1c. If blood sugar is more than 150 or so and HbA1c more than 7. and you are regular about routine you must see your physician to find cause of increase like infection etc. or you may require rescheduling of dosage or additional medication and follow up. Your doctor will do it.

Mr. Lybrate-user, your blood glucose level is high particularly pp. But this can be corrected by diet and exercise rather than any new drug addition, if you reduce present intake by about 10 to 15%, consume more of green leafy vegetable and fiber containing product, plus exercise regularly then you can bring down the sugar level closer to the target of fasting 100mg and pp <170 mg.

Only medicines will not help to control it, you should make some changes in your lifestyle like eating meals on time, exercising regularly and eating less refined carbohydrate like maida, pasta, bread, noodles, white rice. Have food rich in fibre like whole grains (wheat, brown rice) nuts, fruits and vegetables (avoid potato, sweet potato, arbi, beetroot) etc.

Health News - Understanding Thyroid Cancer

The thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland at the base of the throat near the windpipe. It produces hormones that help control heart rate blood pressure body temperature and weight. The most common symptom is a neck lump or nodule. If the tumour is large it may cause other symptoms which includes neck or facial pain shortness of breath difficulty in swallowing cough unrelated to cold hoarseness or voice change, having any of these symptoms doesn't mean it is cancer. But if one or more of them is noticed for more than two weeks then a doctor must be seen and an immediate health screening is a must

Lybrate-user, your thyroid hormone levels and tsh are fairly normal. Therefore thyronorm 25 mcg per day appears to be helping you. You are having grade 1 obesity with 30.35 kgs/bmi (normal <23 kg/m2). That may be one of the reasons for cholesterol being high. To reduce that you will have to control your diet, avoid deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, bakery items and items made of maida or with other refined flours. Daily 1 hour's walking is essential for reducing the weight. Your ideal body weight should be 61 kgs, hence your diet should be calculated to give calories based on that weight. That will help in weight reduction as well as normalising cholesterol. Thanks.

TSH 17.54 is high and is suggestive of hypothyroid and needs thyroid hormone supplimentation for whih you have to consult a Physician. Irragular periods and excess bleeding is most probably due to hypothyroid but to be on safer side take a gynae openion also to rule out any other associated problem.
