Here are causes and treatments of Osteoarthritis

I am Dr Sandeep Chauhan, senior consultant, Orthopaedic and joint replacement at Artemis Hospital, Gurgaon. The growing problem of osteoartritis that is creeping up in our society is primarily due to the changing lifestyles that we people lead and the growing age. Including the trend of obesity, this problem has become multifold in our society and females are mostly suffering from it.

Osteoarthritis is a disease in which the cartridge of the medial compartment of the knee starts getting worn out and Slowly the subchondral bone starts to feel the bent of the weight and leads to pain and deformity of the knees. Basic treatment for osteoarthritis is to change our lifestyle, to decrease our weight and to increase the amount of exercises in our daily life. Exercises has a effect on improving the quadricep muscle strength which controls our knee in a better way.

The Second form of treatment that helps us in osteoarthritis is some analgesics, temporarily when it is inflamed or to do some hot fermentation and wear some supported devices like knee caps and walking braces. Total knee replacement is a resort for oestroarthiritis knees for those people who have pain during their activities of daily living, whose sleep is disturbed because of pain and need to take painkillers for consecutive two or three months.

In case you need any further clarification regarding osteoarthritis or total knee replacement kindly contact lybrate.com.

Can I have suggestion on foods I can eat and foods to avoid when dealing with rheumatoid arthritis. Thanks.

Can I have suggestion on foods I can eat and foods to avoid when dealing with rheumatoid arthritis. Thanks.
Eat healthily, take your medicines no other advice works or required. Don't believe in specific RA diets, they don't help. Junk food is bad for the body, as it is for RA. If you feel something is causing your RA to flare, avoid it. But most times wrong perpetuated myths give you psychological belief that certain foods cause arthritis, which has no conclusive evidence whatsoever. Best wishes

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Let me tell you there are very few orthopaedic conditions that can lead to swelling in your feet region. Both of you are advised to see a physician and get your lft, kft, thyroid tests, cardiac check ups done as all these conditions can commonly lead to swelling. Also your protein levels in body is important, because if that goes down, then it can lead to generalised swelling. Also sometimes swelling can actually happen in vascular issues as well, so consult these dotors as advised. In orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions, generally such swellings can take place after injuries, infections, chronic inflammatory conditions etc. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & regards Dr. Akshay kumar saxena Consultant orthopaedics fortis hospital, new delhi.

BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Hyderabad
Dear Mr Avilash, it is imperative you get the scan done, for repeated fractures indicate that your bones are weak viz, depletated in bone rebuilding & sustaining minerals. Please do get the scan done & consult your Ortho doctor.

Keep a gap of 15 - 20 minutes in both the medicines. *take rest or move about once in 1-2 hours in case of working in a constant position. *maintain a good posture while reading or working with computers. *take a high fibre content diet like vegetables, fruits, etc.
