Vomiting in Children Post Meals - 4 Common Reasons Why!

Vomiting in Children Post Meals - 4 Common Reasons Why!

Children might vomit after meals due to various causes. While they may not be life threatening or potentially harmful to the child, getting to the bottom of the problem to deal with it is better, so as to prevent it from becoming a chronic problem is definitely vital.

Listed below are some of the most common reasons children might throw up:

  1. Gastroenteritis: This may be virus, bacteria and parasite induced. The best way to deal with it is to eat clean food and wash hands with an antiseptic soap prior to each meal. It is usually seen in combination with diarrhoea.
  2. Allergies: Some children who throw up might do so as it is allergy induced. To diagnose the cause of food induced vomiting, the allergens must be noticed as soon as possible as there might be more than one food ingredient causing the reaction in the child. Each time the child throws up, the parents must note down all the food ingredients consumed by the child. This helps the paediatrician in better diagnosing the underlying cause of vomiting. In children up to the age of 4, foods such as rice, poultry, milk and soy often act as triggers and it is called ‘food protein induced enterocolitis syndrome’ (FPIES).
  3. Backing up of food: Anti peristalsis or the backward movement of food along the digestive tract might happen in children for a host of reasons. The digestive tract has muscles which prevent the backward flow of food and instead, force the food downwards i.e. from mouth to anus. Due to children having weaker musculature in their digestive tract, regurgitation might be a frequent occurrence.
  4. Reflux: Swallowing large amounts of air while eating can make the child bloated leading to reflux. Reflux can also take place if the baby is being overfed.

If the child is frequently throwing up after meals, keeping them hydrated is of utmost importance. Unless a doctor prescribes them anti-vomiting medicines, they shouldn’t be administered to children. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a pediatrician.

A 9 month baby is suffering from enlargement of liver, what would be it's treatment?

A 9 month baby is suffering from enlargement of liver, what would be it's treatment?
Hi lybrate-user! You need to first check your baby with a Physician and consult with other famous physician in town and verify various treatment options. Treatment varies, but before the situation worsens it would be better to undergo treatment for the same. You can give carrot to manage liver function after cooking and smashing it. Anyway as soon as possible to undergo treatment for the same. You can even try giving homeopathy treatment or ayureduce treatment, but treatment should be given from a Professional. Take care of your child. Let God bless your child. With regards, Psy. MSV.

Height depends on genetic & envoirnmental factors. Longterm steroid administration may lead to stunting. You only have little chance of increase in height now.

Respected Sir my child has a 3 year old and his skin of penis is not properly up and down. What can I do?

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Ranchi
This is called physiological phimosis and is normal if there is no ballooning of prepuce during micturition. As the baby grows this gets normal. If there is ballooning of prepuce, difficulty in micturition or repeated urinary infection consult your pediatrician as management will be needed in such cases. Regards.

I have pain in all over my body especially in hands legs n back bone. I feel also weak after delivery. My baby is now one year old and the important thing I feed her. So please tell me what will be better to improve my health and reduce pain?

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician,
You may feel pain due to calcium deficiency due to feeding. Add ragi based food in your diet which is rich in calcium. Take iron, calcium and vitamin supplement as per your lady doctor advice. Drink plenty of water. You will feel better. Best of luck.

Dear Mom, You should not give formula, and you should give her Exclusive breastfeeding. Crying may not be equivalent to hunger. If your baby is passing 6 or more urine per 24 hour, then breastmilk is sufficient. If you still have doubt, weigh her once a week . if she is gaining more than 140 gm per week then she is having enough milk. Benefit s of Exclusive breastfeeding are many, u can find out from net, and definite ly formula can be potentially harmful. So please please give your baby exclusive breastfeeding that is the best gift you can give to her

Viral wil take 3-5 days. Dont panic. Continue same meds and give plenty of fluids and try feeding him though he wont be very hungry. If he is sick after 4 days then only ask for reassessment.

Homeopathy Is Best For Children

Homeopathy Is Best For Children

Parents today, are more concerned about their child's healthy diet and hygiene compared to earlier days. They are more inclined towards quality when it comes to providing medical assistance to their children. They are also now well aware of the side effects of conventional drugs and are keen towards trying alternative treatments, which come with no side effects.

Studies prove that conventional drugs suppress diseases and antibiotics hamper digestion. But homeopathy on the other hand, offers natural remedies, which are safe, and has long-lasting effect by boosting your body's immunity.

Below are some of the conditions, in which homeopathy works wonders with the kids:

  1. Acute conditions such as cold, flu, sore throat and stomach infections, etc. These conditions are self-limiting. Homeopathic remedies not only cure these acute problems, but also prevent their recurrence.
  2. Chronic diseases like eczema and allergies are cured completely and never reoccur when treated with homeopathy. In both the above cases, homeopathy works miraculously. Alongside the healing process, it boosts the child's self-defense mechanisms to fight against diseases. While antibiotics may be too harsh for the child's body, homeopathy is a safer option, since it does not have any side effects.

Homeopathy is also effective in treating colic, earache and reduces pain and discomforts. Some of the common problems of children where homeopathy works well are fever, teething, vomiting, diarrhea, dysentery, kidney diseases, infant colic, jaundice, eczema, convulsions, ear infection, fungal infections, warts, thyroid problems, and other growth related problems.

Not just physical symptoms, homeopathy also treats mental and emotional disturbances:

  • You can take help of homeopathy treatment if the child is cranky or restless, and it is very beneficial even in case of hyperactive children.
  • It is also effective in increasing concentration.
  • Homeopathy works perfectly for specially challenged children as well.
  • One of the plus points with homeopathic medicine is that it is easy to administer given their light doses and consumable taste.
  • In addition, injections are not required. Furthermore, homeopathic treatment helps in all stages of childhood.

Homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine. It works on improving immunity rather than only curing the disease. Thus, it is very important to complete courses in homeopathy medication. Even though handy, homeopathy does not allow self-medication. It is always advisable to seek a doctor's help.

Hi, I have 3+ years daughter. She eat very less and weak. Also she under weight. Could you please suggest how we can improve her eating habits. Thanks.

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
It is more of an art rather than science. No medicines are going to help to improve appetite of active healthy child of which weight is not the only criteria. Take meals together in family along with the child. She will imitate parents. There is no instant way. Keep loving, stop forcing, she will pick up your habits.

Sir, my daughter 6 years old suffers from regular cold and suffers from heavy cough. In such condition she suffers from RESPIRATORY problem. We treat her with nebulization (Asthalin or duolin) but its a temporary relief. Regularly she suffers from high itching and rashes at body joints, especially hands joints, legs, throat, chest. How to get rid of this problem permanently.

This is atopy with hyper reactive airways. She will benefit from using inhaledcorticosteroids which will have to be prescribed by a pediatrician after examining her. Her skin condition will gradually improve with time and treatment.

This could be lactose intolerance or bacterial or viral infection which can be established by routine stool test with reducing substances and stool test for culture and sensitivity and the treatment given accordingly.
