Bad break and gum bleeding. All are symptoms of gum inflammation which usually starts because of plaque and calculus .Visit dentist and go for scaling ( teeth cleaning ) of your teeth. Once scaling is complicated .Maintain your oral hygiene by brushing your teeth twice daily. Flossing of teeth. And visit your dentist after every six month.

Capping is the best option after root canal to prevent damage. Also you can brush twice daily and do warm saline rinses after meals.

Temporary loose wires can be fixed by using a pencil or the back of a spoon to gently push them back in place. Wax or a wet cotton ball can also be used if the loose wire is causing a lot of discomfort.

Kindly consult an orthodontist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations (model study, full mouth & profile x-ray) & clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need fixed / removable braces. Requirements may depends on the age, complaint, duration of the treatment & affordability. Cost of cosmetic dentistry (braces) varies with dentist.

For this.
Hello lybrate-user, any cavity on teeth has to be checked clinically to assess the need for a filling or root canal. There is no remedy that can cure you of dental cavity without the dentists care. Tooth paste do not help treat cavities and if left untreated, deep cavities can lead to pus formation.

Avoid hot and hard food. You can apply local anesthetic gel to lesion 4-5 times daily, specially 10 minutes before meal. Do gargle and mouth wash with water. Just spit off the gel with saliva. Take green vegetables, citrus fruits and healthy food. Keep hydrated yourselves. If same ulcer is persisting since 2 months, immediately meet dental surgeon.

Hi, my nephew is now 6.5 years old. When he was just under 2 years, he fell on the stairs and lost 4 of his upper front teeth while the lower teeth gum portion (base of teeth) was also detached along with 3-4 lower front teeth. However, one end of that portion was still attached. The dentist at that time felt it will get fused in few day's time so he put back that hanging portion in its normal place without having to stitch it. As expected, it did get fused. He also did say that since those were his milk teeth, the child will get his permanent teeth normally at around 7 years. Now, some 4 months back, those lower teeth have come off itself (as it would do at this age of 6 years) one after another, but no permanent have erupted. X-ray taken at the time of injury showed no issues of concern except the lower gum laceration as mentioned above, which was healed very promptly. The child has shown no dental issues till now and has completely normal oral health. Do you also feel the permanent teeth will erupt as usual and I just need to wait for some more time, but how long? any advice of yours in this case would be a great help for me, especially from your experience of any similar case. Thanks.

MDS - Oral Medicine and Radiology, BDS
Dentist, Ahmedabad
Hi, as the present oral health is good, no need to worry. And to know how much time it will take for eruption of permanent teeth, we need recent x-rays of upper and lower teeth.

Geographic tongue Symptoms of geographic tongue Causes and risk factors Treatment or self-care for geographic tongue Geographic tongue is the name of a condition that gets its name from its map-like appearance on the upper surface and sides of the tongue. It may occur in other areas of your mouth, as well. You'll be relieved to know that geographic tongue is a harmless, benign condition that isn't linked to any infection or cancer. Two other names for geographic tongue are benign migratory glossitis and erythema migrans. Affecting about 1% to 3% of people, geographic tongue can show up at any age. However, it tends to affect middle-aged or older adults more often. It appears to be more common in women than in men. Symptoms of geographic tongue the telltale signs of geographic tongue are irregular, smooth, red patches on parts of the tongue. These patches may: have a white or light-colored border vary in size, shape, and color appear one area, and then move to another area come and go or change very quickly in days, weeks, or months last up to a year you may be unaware that you have geographic tongue until your dentist or other health care provider diagnoses it during an oral exam. About one in 10 people with geographic tongue may have mild discomfort or a burning or painful sensation. This is often from sensitivity to substances such as: hot, spicy, or acidic foods cigarette smoke toothpaste causes and risk factors geographic tongue occurs when parts of the tongue are missing layers of small bumps called papillae. They normally cover the entire upper layer of your tongue. Why do you lose these papillae with geographic tongue? nobody knows for sure. However, because geographic tongue tends to run in families, genetics may be a common link. Geographic tongue has also been seen more frequently in people with psoriasis and in those with fissured tongue. In fissured tongue, cracks and grooves appear on the tops and sides of the tongue. Treatment or self-care for geographic tongue seeing a dentist or doctor is the best way to rule out a more serious problem. In most cases, he or she can diagnose geographic tongue from a description of your symptoms and from examining your mouth and tongue. You may need tests to rule out other medical conditions. In most cases, any pain or discomfort will get better without treatment. But if you have severe, ongoing pain, medication can help. These are examples of what your doctor or dentist may prescribe: over-the-counter pain relievers anti-inflammatories mouth rinses with anesthetic corticosteroids applied directly on the tongue zinc supplements if you're wondering about steps you can take to hasten the relief of symptoms, try limiting these substances or avoid them altogether: tobacco hot, spicy, or acidic foods or dried, salty nuts toothpaste with additives, whitening agents, or heavy flavoring (toothpaste for sensitive teeth is a better choice)

Hello Doctor I am ramesh I am 45 year old man I have teeth cavity and yellow teeth problem last month what should I d...
If cavity is not deep or there is no pain and sensitivity in the decayed tooth then go for restoration (filling) but if cavity is deep or there is pain and sensitivity in the decayed tooth then first get the x-ray done of that tooth and send me the x-ray picture for further diagnosis. There are several causes of tooth discoloration, including: foods/drinks. Coffee, tea, colas, wines, and certain fruits and vegetables (for example, apples and potatoes) can stain your teeth. Tobacco use. Smoking or chewing tobacco can stain teeth. Poor dental hygiene. Inadequate brushing and flossing. Here is home remedy for brighter teeth--- mix several teaspoons of baking soda with enough fresh lemon juice (or water) to make a paste. Wipe your teeth and any extra saliva off of them with a paper towel. Put a good amount of paste onto your toothbrush and apply. Leave the paste on for 1 minute, then rinse, so as to avoid the acid effecting enamel. If you are using just water you can leave it on for up to 3 minutes. For faster result you can go for teeth bleaching from dentist.

Dental Implants - Types and Benefits

Dental Implants - Types and Benefits

Dental implants are a type of a treatment that is carried out to replace missing teeth. During the process of extracting a damaged tooth, the root and the crown are removed. So, a dental implant involves placing a tooth on a precise titanium insert which is surgically placed on the jawbone. These supporting inserts are placed in the jawbone because they fuse with the jawbone (similar to orthopedic plates) and thus provide a strong foundation for the replacement teeth.

Why tooth loss matters?
A missing tooth or teeth can not only take away from the beauty of your smile, but tooth loss can also have many negative effects on your oral health, including:

  1. Bone loss
  2. Shifting and drifting teeth
  3. Bite changes
  4. Chewing difficulty
  5. Wearing down of remaining teeth
  6. Changes in the jaw joint

Types of implant placement
Whether an implant is placed immediately or in 2 phases depends on a variety of factors like bone density, initial fit of the implant during surgery, the other teeth, area of jaw, loads received during chewing etc.

Dental implant placement can be of two types

  1. Immediate single stage placement: In this type we place an implant and give you at least a temporary crown immediately, followed by a permanent crown shortly thereafter.
  2. Delayed (2 stage) Implants: Such a placement is usually to safeguard the implant from any early forces when its just healing and fusing within the bone. After the placement the implant is kept covered below the gum for 3 months and uncovered after this period to give you a permanent crown.

Benefits
Now that you know about the different types, it is time to move on to the benefits of getting these.

  1. Long lasting: Compared to other treatments such as tooth bridges which last for 5-10 years, dental implants can last for an entire lifetime if maintained properly. The only part to replace is the crown.
  2. Mimicking natural teeth: Your replacement teeth will feel similar to your actual teeth, so you do not need to worry about your self-image issues. Flash that wonderful smile of yours without thinking over it the second time.
  3. Preserve surrounding teeth: When an implant is inserted in place of a missing tooth, adjacent healthy teeth are not damaged.
  4. Comfort: Dental implants being a fixed replacement they have none of the problems that removable dentures or other substitutes may cause.Patients who replace all of their teeth with dental implants can feel more comfortable talking, smiling and eating.
