Pregnancy: Do's & Don'ts

Pregnancy: Do's & Don'ts

Sometimes getting pregnant is not a very easy task, and may end up taking a long time. But once you've decided to start a family of your own, it becomes harder to wait for it to happen.

So here are the do's & dont's:

Do's

  1. Intake of fruit and vegetables is important as they are good sources of vitamins, minerals and even fiber. They are good for digestion and also help in preventing constipation. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables daily.
  2. During pregnancy carbohydrates are also important as they act as an important source of energy. Different food items that are rich in carbohydrates are potatoes, bread, breakfast cereals, pasta, rice, noodles, millet, maize, oats, yams, sweet potatoes, and corn meal. It is better to eat whole grains and potato with the skin on as they are rich in fiber.
  3. Intake of protein is very important during pregnancy, and thus you should take lean meat, pulses, beans, nuts, fish, and eggs. All these items should be cooked well so that you do not face any problem in digestion during pregnancy.

Dont's

  1. Stress: Stress can trigger various health problems, which can be bad for both the baby and the mother. Studies have revealed the emotional environment of the mother is experienced by the baby as well. In fact, a particular study has shown that any kind of stress, whether it be work related or stress caused by strain in relationships, can affect the mental development of the child. This as result can lead to the child developing certain behavioural disorders such as fears and phobias, which remain way into his adulthood.
  2. Alcohol: All types of alcohol must be avoided during pregnancy. Consumption of alcohol during these 9 months has been associated with several birth defects such as poor growth, learning disabilities and mental retardation. In worst case scenarios, excessive alcohol consumption during pregnancy can lead to what is known as
  3. Foetal Alcohol Syndrome or FAS, which severely affects the mental development and physical growth of the unborn child, particularly of the face and skull. Also, you must quit smoking.

Generally piles are not so serious and go away on their own after a few days. But they should not be ignored as they can lead to life-threatening conditions such as colorectal cancer. Piles can affect anyone at any age but they mostly affect elderly people, pregnant ladies, and those with spinal cord injuries. Symptoms include blood or mucus discharge after a bowel movement, pain during defecation, red and swollen anus and formation of a hard lump of coagulated blood called thrombosed external hemorrhoid. The good news is that piles at their initial stage can be cured at home. The piles home remedies given below are effective in the treatment of piles. Dried figs: wash 3 to 4 figs and soak them in a glass of water overnight. Eating this on an empty stomach early in the morning and then at night will definitely relieve the pain and swelling of inflamed hemorrhoids. And medicenes are abhayarishta and chitrakadi vati. For treatment medicenes consult privately any queries inform me.

During first intercourse usually female they bleed but it is not the rule. There will be pain for her for initial few days, but that should not be the concern as it is not that severe to worry. Male partner does not have any pain. Bleeding which she will have will be mild, and will subside immediately.

Breathing exercises you should do before your daily walk
Before starting out for a walk, relax and take a deep breath and fill your lungs with fresh air which will move them into their most efficient position. After you exhale, maintain the chest in this position with shoulders down and slightly back throughout the walk.

7 Things First Time Parents Must Remember

Having a baby is a beautiful experience and it is important for first time parents to learn the ropes of taking care of a newborn. A mother should consider getting help after the birth of the child as at that particular time period can be overwhelming and hectic to take care of the baby all alone. You can get started by nursing your child by taking assistance from specialists and nurses who tell you how to change the clothes of the baby, hold the baby and how to take care of your baby.

How to take care of a newborn:
You can hire a maid who can help you look after your baby. If you have relatives, you can request them to help you out. It is important to keep the following things in mind while taking care of a baby.

  1. Babies are susceptible to infection quickly and hence it is necessary that we wash our hands properly with a hand sanitiser before carrying the baby.
  2. Make sure you carry the baby properly by providing the infant with proper support below the neck and head. The same rules apply while laying the baby down in the cradle.
  3. Do not shake the baby vigorously, even by mistake, as it can cause bleeding in the brain of the baby, which can cause death.
  4. Any member of the household should not throw the baby in the air or try any rough play as a newborn baby is not ready for it.
  5. Sponge bath should be given to the baby until the umbilical cord falls off and only after the navel heals totally. It can take about 1–4 weeks for this to happen.
  6. It is very vital that you use clean diapers for your baby, and if the diaper is wet, it must be removed immediately to avoid any rash in and around the genital area. It is important that the genital area is cleaned well by the use of cotton balls and water.
  7. In case you are using cloth diapers, then it is advisable that you clean it with detergents that are fragrance free.
