Hypothyroidism in India is due to iodine deficiency most of the times, autoimmunity in India is less common as compared to western countries.
Few dietary restrictions which a thyroid patient should follow
1 cabbage
2 chhole, rajma, brinjal
3 mooli, curd, achaar
Avoidance of these things will give less irritation to thyroid gland

How long I can continue taking hyper thyroid medicine, without any longterm side effects.

Mr. lybrate-user, It is better if you specify what medicines you are on. Also if you mention latest thyroid test results, it would be better. Either hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism both can only be controlled. There's no cure. Thanks.

Do not be selective about food (especially all the natural products have some thing special about them - variety in nature is a blessing ). So the best option would be to eat a healthy diet (which should be a balanced diet ), which is freshly prepared and homemade if possible. Eat all types of seasonal fruits and vegetables everyday. You can eat unpolished pulses and whole grains as they have more fiber and natural vitamins. Avoid stimulants like alcohol and tobacco. Limit tea and coffee as they are also stimulants (contain caffeine ). Learn more about healthy diet and exercise from the internet and slowly change your lifestyle into a healthy one. If you have any health problems the you can add Homeopathy also as it can help in natural healing without any side effects. You can contact me for further details.

Dear Lybrate User, *Firstly you take your food with 2 to 3 hr intervals, devided into 3 main meals and 3 small meals. Main meals should consist of 1/4 portion of protein and 1/4 portion of carbohydrates and 2 portion of vegetables more or less at the same time of the day to make your biological clock perfect. Avoid high calorie food such as fried things, mango, banana, sapota, juices, sweets. Secondly do regular exercise, yoga or walk. Thirdly always take your medicine in time as advised by your doctor. Keep your self hydrated and take enough sleep. *Control it by some changes in diet and life style. She should take a morning walk daily. Avoid highly refined carbohydrate like white bread and pasta etc and focus on high fiber complex carbohydrate also known as slow release carbohydrate like brown rice, sweet potato, yam, whole wheat bread, oats peas, green leafy vegetable, fat free low sugar yogurt etc

1. Your sugar levels have increased after you have stopped medicine. 2. 140 is still in Diabetic range though a little on lower side. 3. Reduction of sugar intake is not enough. You need to reduce all forms of simple carbs like white rice, white bread, colas etc. 4. You need to reduce oil intake. 5. Quantity of exercise has to go up and weight has to come down. 6. You need to constantly Chk your FBS and PPS levels. 7. If they reduce to levels below 115/150 only then you can be free of medicines.

Hi Since you are on treatment with thyroxine 125 mcg tablets, there is no need to do any separate testing. Just take iodinated salt. Since you already have hypothyroidism, the thyroid gland is not functioning optimally. So it hardly matters. All the needs of thyroxine are being met by supplement. You should ensure that TSH level is maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L. If that is not the case then dosage of thyroxine may have to be increased. Thanks.
