My hair is so rough n bushy like although I always apply oil before hair wash. What shall I do to have a silky n straight hair.

1. Use mild shampoo to wash hair (you can make your own shampoo using reetha and shikakai at home) 2. Stop using conditioners. Use natural conditioners like egg, yougurt and lemon. 3. Massage your scalp with a mix of oils like olive, coconut, sesame, castor oil at night. 4. Apply raw amla juice on hair thrice a week. 5. Rub your scalp with the juice of white onion. 6. Use a paste of bhringraj on hair. 7. You can use some good hair packs like - fenugreek and yogurt, egg and green tea. 8. You can rinse your hair with organic apple cider vinegar after washing your hair to maintain ph balance of your hair. 9. Hair health depends on the amount of protein in your diet. Foods like chicken, eggs, fish, nuts, dry fruits gives you the required nutrients to keep your skin and hair healthy. So consume plenty of them. Eat things rich in vitamin c like amla and oranges. 10. Drink lots of water to flush out toxins from the body.

I am 10 kgs over weight, I work in a hospital with rotating shifts that is why I don't get any sort of particular time to join any physical activity and don't no what sort diet should I take to shred those extra kilos?

Hi for reduced weight you should work out as per you consume calories and it will take time just continue work out. Take following remedies for loosing weight 1.arogya vardhini vati 2 tab before lunch and dinner 2. Abhayarishta 4 tsp before lunch nad dinner 3. Morning break fast=mung dal green soup 1 boul and if feel hunger have pomegranate or apple 4.lunch 2 chaati + fruit vegetable + if you like rice 1 bowl and dal + barley soup 5. Evening 4-5 pm have some milk with sunth or any fruit you like 6. Dinner barley soup 2 bowl and one fruit follow this diet you will get reduced weight.

Most likely he has rickets, for the confirmation of which we will need to get an xray done of the wrist and his knees to see for the status of his metaphsyis. Take him for early morning walks alongwith you and allow him to remain in the sunshine for about an hour. Feed him lots of milk and kindly consult an orthopedician to get prescription for the calcium and vit. D supplements. Teh deformity looks unsightly but it goes away entirely as his stores of vit. D and calcium will get replenished. Hope this helpps.

Hirsutism - How Best Can it Be Managed?

Most women love the idea of having healthy and silky skin that feels smooth to touch. However, due to a certain reasons, some women can have excessive, unwanted hair on their chest, hands and face. The pattern is similar to what is seen in men. This can be a major psychological problem. Read on to know more about some of the common reasons for this and how it can be managed:

Common causes behind it
Hair pattern is largely determined by genetic makeup and hirsutism is often caused by genes, hormones, or medication which is another main cause is the excessive amount of testosterone in women. Conditions like obesity, polycystic ovaries disease, ovarian tumours, adrenal tumours, Cushing’s syndrome and drugs like Danazol can cause excessive androgen hormones. Women with this condition may also have a deep voice, huge breasts, enlarged clitoris, severe acne and may also suffer from hair loss. These symptoms are collectively referred to as virilisation.

Ways to control hirsutism
The treatment is aimed at removing the unwanted hair and treating the underlying cause. A combination of medications and procedures can help in removing the excessive hair.

  1. Weight loss: Reducing weight makes the body produce less of the male hormone, and so hirsutism is controlled.
  2. Female hormone replacement: Birth control pills are a good choice for women who do not want to get pregnant. They control the androgen hormone production and reduce hair growth and other characteristics.
  3. Anti-androgens: Spironolactone is an anti-androgen which counters the effect of testosterone; however, these have side effects and self-medication is not advisable.
  4. Topical creams: The face is the major area of concern and so creams like eflornithine are useful to control hair growth on the face.

Procedures

Depending on the patient’s severity of the problem and expectations, the following procedural options are available. While some of these can be done at home, others might require a visit to a doctor.

  1. Shaving: To be done repeated as and when the growth occurs.
  2. Tweezing: Isolated strands of hair can be removed with a tweezer.
  3. Waxing: This is useful in removing hair from large areas (chest, hands, etc.)
  4. Bleaching creams or lotions: The hair stays in place but is lightened in colour to give it a camouflaged appearance.
  5. Depilatory creams, lotions, or gels: These break down the hair follicles and prevent hair growth.
  6. Electrolysis: A small amount of electric current is applied to the hair follicle to destroy it, thereby controlling hair growth.
  7. Laser hair treatment: A small beam of highly concentrated light is applied to the affected area to damage the hair follicles and control hair growth.

Hirsutism is definitely not desirable, but there are definitely ways to manage the problems and get back to having a smooth, silky skin.

I have kidney stones which occasionally hurt. Doctor advised drinking lots of water and physical activity. But now I get pain more often. What should I do?

Dear lybrate user, a kidney stone is mainly formed due to the accumulation of the minerals present in urine. Such accumulation occurs mainly due to low intake of fluids. Continuous low fluid intake results in the deposits of the minerals over the stone & eventually leads to an increase in the size of the stone. Formation of stone leads to pain along the kidney region. If the size of the kidney stone is below 3 mm then it is possible to get rid of it without any surgery. Take homoeopathic mother tincture berberis vulgaris q, 30 drops, thrice daily, after meals, in a cup of water for 15 days. The stone will be expelled through urine in between the span of 15 days of medication. But if the size of the stone is more than 3 mm then you should surely go for surgery.

Hye. Thanks for the query. It's a lot of weight loss you need to achieve. You must go for a personalised diet consultation. In order to lose weight you must either eat sensibly and exercise to burn off calories. Eat as per the body's needs. Food that is not used to fuel the body is stored as fat. A major component of losing weight is to make smarter food choices. Here's how: Limit non-nutritious foods, such as: Sugar, honey, syrups and candy, pastries, donuts, pies, cakes and cookies, soft drinks, sweetened juices and alcoholic beverages Cut down on high-fat foods by: Choosing poultry, fish or lean red meat. Choosing low-fat cooking methods, such as baking, broiling, steaming, grilling and boiling. Avoiding high-fat snacks like chips and chocolate. Avoiding fried foods. Using less margarine and mayonnaise. Avoiding high-fat gravies, cream sauces and cream-based dishes. Eat a variety of foods, including: Fruit and vegetables, whole grains, breads, cereal, rice and pasta, dairy products, such as low-fat or non-fat milk or yogurt, low-fat cottage cheese and low-fat cheese, protein-rich foods like chicken, fish, dals and legumes, or beans should be included in your diet. Change your eating habits: Eat three balanced meals a day to help control your hunger. Watch portion sizes and eat small servings of a variety of foods. Choose low-calorie snacks. Eat only when you are hungry and stop when you are satisfied. Eat slowly and try not to perform other tasks while eating. Find other activities to distract you from food, such as walking, taking up a hobby or being involved in the community. Include regular exercise in your daily routine.

Eat a high carbohydrate and high protein diet with adequate amount of fat. This will help you to put on muscles. Try to incorporate the following things in your diet along with having a normal diet what you have. Drink 750 ml- 1 litre whole milk everyday. You can have milk plain or in form of shake or in form of curd, paneer and other milk products. Banana shake is very helpful for increasing weight and strength. Have 2-3 whole eggs daily in your diet. You can have it in the form of curry/omelette/bhurji/katti rolls or any other form.

My mom underwent an angiography yesterday, which result in 100% blockage in LAD and 90% in RC. Doctors suggest angioplasty. On 23 april we have my brother's marriage, so can we go for angioplasty after 15 days. Please suggest. Thanks.

No you should not wait for heart attack to start with so much of blockages, she is free from symptoms now, get angioplasty done and feel free from the dangers of having to live with blocks in major blood vessels of heart.

Dear lybrate user, for weight gain. Avoid fast food, junk food, heavy food, oily, spicy etc food which are heavy in digest. Take good nutrition base diet which contains vitamins, minerals, protein etc like green leafy vegetables. Take milk two times in a day. Avoid stress and anger. It is most important. Take enough sleep. Take one hour sleep at noon time also. Enjoy light music if you like. Develop your hobby one hour per day. Think positive. Take enough rest. Avoid too much physical and mental work. Take fermented diet once in a week. Take dry fruits. Take grapes, watermelon, banana etc fruit which is heavy in calory.

Age 50 Male - Servicing in private sector. Remains stress. Having diabetes since last 10 years and now my BS F-115 and BS PP-118. Medicine gluconorm pg1 and janumet 500/50 mg. 1 BD both and neurobion Forte - 1 OD. Feeling weak. Please suggest further course of treatment for feeling more energetic.

Hi. Please start with Karela juice 30 ml with a glass of water in the morning empty stomach. Also Tb Chandraprabha vati 2 tablets thrice a day after food. Your sugar can become absolutely normal. I have advised to initiate with above medicine. Please consult for further guidance.

I have ingrown toenail problem. It itches alot. Doctor said Removal of it is only option. What should I do? I am in pain alot.

Ingrown toenail is a result of faulty trimming of nail and tight compression of toes in the shoe ends. While removal of the nail is one of the resorts and the last one, other things can be tried before that. Let the toe nail grow a little out of the Frontline of the nailbed and then cut the extra growth in front straight from corner to corner without rounding the corners. Let this go on repeatedly over succesive nail cuttings and the ingrown part should also leaVe the side tissue. Alternately you may go for a wedge cutting of the nail base on the side of ingrowth. This reduces the width of the growing nail and gradually the ingrown part moves ahead in front without any growing margin to cut through in the side tissue. If both these things have been done without favourable results, then the nail should be removed.

I am a 36 yr old male. I am non vegeterian. My height is 5ft 7 inch and weight is around 68 kgs which comes under ideal bmi. I exercise regularly and have no bad habits like drinking, smoking. I am quite diet conscious and do not binge on fatty products / cold drinks / snacks etc. However, I do like to eat out and try good dishes preferably non veg. I am tyring to reduce my belly but it is not happening. Can you suggest what should I do. Thanks.

Hi select lean cuts of meat prefer grilled, barbequed or baked meats. To reduce fat on belly:- avoid dinner after 8 pm don't hv rice for dinner you can take soup n grilled chicken/fish for dinner. Let me know your progress.

Follow the following tips:- · Pay close attention to your food choice. · Eat less carbohydrate food sources like chapatti, rice, noodles, pasta, bread etc as they help in gaining weight and storing fat. · While having lunch or dinner eat vegetables and dal to fill your stomach rather eating lots of chapattis or rice. · Have a healthy breakfast like poha, idli, upma, plain dosa, oats, dalia or khichdi with vegetables. · Eat a balance diet including good quality proteins like: fish, lean chicken and eggs. If you are a vegetarian then include skimmed milk, low fat paneer, butter milk, soy bean or soy milk in your diet. · Avoid ghee, butter or vanaspati. Prepare your diet with vegetable oil like sunflower, safflower soybean or olive oil. · Eat plenty of salads. · Eat fresh fruits including apple, orange, pineapple, papaya, sweet lime, berries, guava, watermelon, mask melon etc. · Avoid eating outside junk and fried foods like pizza, pasta, roll, burgers, cakes, chocolates and cookies. · Have an early dinner. The earlier the better, giving your system more time to digest the food. · Avoid cold drinks/alcohol as they add empty calories to your diet. · Avoid fat enriched milk products like cheese, sweets, full fat cream etc. · Drink 3 liters of water in a day. · Try to have less sugar in food and beverages. · Try to drink 2 cups of green tea in a day as green tea helps in weight loss by aiding digestion. · Avoid red meat like mutton, beef, lamb or pork. · Eat sprouts or roasted chana, whenever you feel hungry.

I have fever from a week which comes at morning nd evening and having also pain in whole body what to do now?

Follow health advises given below: Measure your temperature and tell me reading 1. Avoid exertion 2. Take tablet paracetamol 500 mg after food (If No Drug Allergy) as and when required for fever more than 99 f (maximum 3 tablets with gap of 8 hr can be taken in a day) for 3 days 3. Lot of fluids to be taken 4. Take proper diet homemade food like moong dal dalia, chapati etc. 4. Avoid wearing synthetic and tight cloths. Get CBC checked and review with reports consult physician/me for further management and let me know what medicines you were taking and also tell me if you are having other symptoms like cough/ throat pain/ burning urine/ stomach pain so that we can confirm cause of fever.
