Use sugar scrub to erase pimple marks- this is a simple and easy scrub for healthy, pimple-marks free, glowing skin. It will work as an exfoliating agent and would help you to achieve a brighter skin tone. - take three tablespoons of sugar - 1 tablespoon of milk powder - 1 tablespoon of honey mix them together and scrub this mixture over the face for few minutes and rinse it off after 15 minutes.

Know How to Identify The Right Moisturizer For Your Skin Type

MBBS, Diploma In Dermatology And Venerology And Leprosy (DDVL), DNB (Dermatology), MNAMS

Know How to Identify The Right Moisturizer For Your Skin Type

Which moisturiser will work best for your skin type?

Moisturisers are extremely essential during winters for keeping your skin soft and hydrated. The chief function of moisturisers is to ensure that the outermost layer of your skin can hold water to prevent the skin from becoming dry and charred. But, any moisturiser you choose randomly might not be effective for your skin. For making the most of your moisturiser choose one that is suitable for your specific skin type. Read on to find about the correct type of moisturisers required for each skin type.

1. Dry skin

Dry skin becomes even drier during the winters and requires a heavier, oil-based moisturiser with hydrating ingredients to remain soft. Additionally, if your skin is too dry or cracked, using products containing mineral jellies like petroleum jelly will be beneficial. This is because these products are known to minimise evaporation of moisture from your skin.

2. Oily skin

Acne and breakouts mostly occur on the oily skin, so it will be best to choose a light, water-based moisturiser if you have this type of skin. Moreover, try to opt for a product that is non-comedogenic in nature, which will ensure that you do not get clogged pores due to the moisturiser.

3. Normal skin

Normal skin can be characterised by perfect natural oil balance and an even tone. For keeping your skin soft you need to keep this natural balance intact, which can be done by using a water-based product containing lightweight oils or ingredients derived from silicon. Additionally, ensure that your moisturiser gives your skin a light non-greasy feel.

4. Sensitive skin

Sensitive skin is generally prone to skin irritations, itching, redness and rashes. If you have sensitive skin, then look for a moisturiser that contains ingredients known for generating a soothing effect like chamomile or aloe. Moreover, ensure that the product is free from potential allergens like fragrances or dyes and acids to prevent side effects such as skin irritation.

5. Combination skin

Combination skin is the toughest type of skin to maintain. People with this type of skin have an oily t-zone consisting of the nose, chin and forehead along with the cheeks having dry skin. To keep combination skin hydrated you need to use a heavy moisturiser on the cheeks and an oil-free water-based product on the t-zone.

4 Sunscreen Beliefs You Will Be Surprised To Know Are False!

MD- Dermatology & Venereology,Leprosy , International Fellowship in Dermatology, MBBS
Dermatologist, Gurgaon
4 Sunscreen Beliefs You Will Be Surprised To Know Are False!
4 Myths on sunscreen you absolutely need know to about

Exposing your skin to harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun can have devastating effects on your skin, including wrinkles, sunburn and even skin cancer. So, using a sunscreen every time you step outdoors and using it correctly is of vital importance to have healthy skin. However, most people have different misconceptions about sunscreen usage. Read on to find the real facts behind these widespread sunscreen myths…

1. You don’t need to apply sunscreen if your makeup contains SPF
If any of your makeup products like foundation or powder contains SPF, do not assume that it can replace your sunscreen. Makeup containing SPF cannot protect your skin entirely as cosmetics are generally applied lightly, and mostly doesn’t cover places like T-zones, earlobes or hairline. To fully shield your skin from the sunrays, it’s necessary to apply sunscreen or moisturizer with at least SPF 30 before putting makeup on. It is advisable to apply the sunscreen half an hour before stepping out for maximum benefit.

2. Putting sunscreen on your skin once is enough to protect you throughout the day
Most people apply sunscreen only once before heading out of the house, and don’t reapply it again throughout the entire day.Contrary to popular belief, this does not provide protection for the entire day as most sunscreens lose their effect with time. To ensure that your skin remains protected you need to reapply sunscreen once every 2 hours, and once every 40-80 minutes if you are engaging in activities like swimming and exercising.

3. Waterproof sunscreens won’t wash off
Even if your sunscreen is waterproof, you need to reapply it at regular intervals if you are pursuing water sports like swimming or are the kind who washes their face frequently. When a sunscreen is typified as waterproof, it actually means that the composition of the sunscreen makes it suitable for functioning for a maximum of 1 hour and 20 minutes under water. Moreover, sunscreens containing a ‘water-resistant’ label can bear water immersion up to at most 40 minutes. So, irrespective of whatever the label of the sunscreen mentions, you need to reapply sunscreen every hour to protect your skin effectively.

4. You do not need to apply sunscreen in winters or you are when indoors.
Winter skin is relatively more sensitive than summer skin which is tanned. If one is in hilly areas or snow covered regions there is reflection of UV light from the snow that causes more skin damage. Also glass can allow UV rays to pass through and indoor lighting can also be a source of UV exposure, therefore you should apply sunscreen even when you are indoors.

I've dark marks under my eyes. What should I do?

BHMS
Homeopath,
I've dark marks under my eyes. What should I do?
Hi. Dark circles can be temporary (means happens after any recent or chronic diseases or underlying medical condition, insufficient sleep, nutritional deificiency, working long hrs. on computer, lack of rest, stress/ tension, etc.) which can be improved by fixing the underlying cause or the problem or can be inherited from your parent's genes which can't be treated or cured! Management: Eat healthy and on time. Avoid junk. Drink plenty of water (as dehydration can cause dull or patchy skin). Sleep well. Wear anti-glare spectacles while working on computer. Reduce your stress/ tension through yoga, meditation or any other excercises (it not only improves your blood circulation, but also reduces the production of stress hormones by the body as well as increases happy hormones in the body). Use sunglasses regularly and not to forget to apply a thick layer of Bakson's Suncare Sunscreen liberally, 20-30 minutes before stepping out in the sun and apply the same again after 3-4 hours if you have exposure to sunlight for long hours. Take homoeopathic medicines - Cina 1M/ one dose daily at night for 10 days Apply Medicynth's Whitch Hazel cream and Bakson's Under Eye cream twice - in morning and at night daily.

Cure Of Fungal Infection With Homoeopathy

Cure Of Fungal Infection With Homoeopathy

Redness, itching, rashes or burning of skin is an indication of a fungal infection. Caused by different types of fungi, including yeasts, fungal infections can affect any part of the body and people of any age. The most common sites, however, are the feet, head, nails and groin. Homeopathy provides a complete and holistic cure for fungal infections, striking at the root of the problem. The remedies are sourced from natural substances, so there is zero possibility of side-effects in homeopathic treatment.

Fungal infection of the foot is known as ‘athlete’s foot’. It usually results in redness, itching and burning, especially between the toes and the sides of the foot. The fungus usually grows in a warm and moist environment such as shoes, socks and swimming pools. Fungal infection affecting the groin, thighs and genitals is known as ‘jock itch’. The fungus thrives in moist areas of the body. ‘jock itch’ mostly occurs in summer or in warm, wet climates. The symptoms are a red, itchy rash, ring-shaped, with cracked skin.

Another common fungal infection, known in medical terminology as ‘onchomycosis’, affects the nails of the hand and the feet. The fungal infection starts at the edge of the nails and leads to discoloration of nails. The nails of the feet and hands get crippled and the pain can be severe.

Fungal infection of the scalp results in patches appearing on the scalp. It is more common among children. Scaly, round and itchy patches appear on the scalp.

‘Candidiasis’ or ‘Thrush’ is another common fungal infection. It mostly affects the mouth, skin and the vagina. Thrush infection appears as small white patches, which turn red on rubbing. There is intense itching and a white discharge in vaginal thrush.

Fungal infection of the body or the skin causes red, ring-shaped rashes on arms, legs or the face. Most of these fungal infections are contagious and spread by coming in contact with the infected person.

Homeopathic treatment for fungal infections:

Homeopathy offers a very beneficial and effective mode of treatment that boosts the body’s healing processes to fight and eradicate fungal infection. Unlike conventional treatment, the natural homeopathic remedies do not suppress fungal infection; these rather work to root out the underlying cause of fungal infections. The homeopathic treatment, thus, provides a permanent cure by uprooting the cause of the infection.

Best homeopathic medicines for fungal infection:

The best natural homeopathic medicines for fungal infection are thuja, sepia and graphites. Thuja is of great help in treating fungal infection on dry and very sensitive skin. Sepia is the best homeopathic remedy for fungal infection appearing every spring season. Graphites is a very beneficial homeopathic medicine for treating recurrent episodes of fungal infection, especially ‘jock itch’.

Best homeopathic medicines for fungal infection on feet (athlete’s foot)

The top homeopathic medicines for fungal infection on the feet (athlete’s foot) are petroleum and silicea.

Best homeopathic remedies for fungal infection in nails

The top natural homeopathic medicines for fungal infection in the nails (tinea unguium) are antimonium crudum and graphites. Antimonium crudum is the best homeopathic remedy for discolored nails, growing out of shape. The skin beneath the nails is painfully sensitive. Graphites is a very beneficial homeopathic medicine when fungal infection results in nails getting thick and crippled, with severe pain and soreness.

Top homeopathic medicines for fungal infection of scalp

The best natural homeopathic medicines for fungal infection of the scalp (tinea capitis) are thuja and kali sulphuricum.

Best homeopathic medicines for fungal infection in mouth and genitals

The top natural homeopathic remedies for fungal infection caused by candida yeast (candidiasis or thrush) are borax and helonias. Borax is of great help for treatment of white lesions or patches of fungus in the mouth. Thrush with intense itching on the genitals is best treated with homeopathic medicine helonias. The genital parts get red, hot and swollen with itching, and helonias is the top natural remedy.

Best homeopathic medicines for fungal infection on skin

Hi. If the black spots you are talking about are acne marks, then follow the below points which will take care of your acne as well: Wash your face with Bakson's Facewash (wash your face with warm water only) and followed by CTMP, i.e., cleansing, toning, moisturising and protection (apply liberally Sunscreen Gel with SPF-30) after washing your face daily. Home-made remedies: - Take 1 tbsp of fuller's earth (multani mitti) + a dash of lime + bit of rosewater – apply this on your face till it gets dried up, then rinse it off. - Take 1 tsp of Alum (or fitkari), make it slightly wet with water and apply this on your wet face, spread it well; let it dry and rinse it off. Alum remove your excessive moisture or oil and it also tightens the skin's tonicity. Medication: You can take homoeopathic medicines – Berberis Aquefolium Q/ 10 drops in 1/2 cup of water/ thrice a day (and for local application as well) and Kali Brom. 200/ thrice a day – for 20 days. Use Bakson's Apricot scrub at least once a week.

Skin Pigmentation - Brightening Techniques to Manage It

Skin Pigmentation - Brightening Techniques to Manage It

Most skin problems develop due to external damage. However, skin problems may also occur due to the internal problems, such as an unhealthy diet and lifestyle issues. One of the fairly common problems is skin pigmentation.

What is skin pigmentation?
Skin pigmentation primarily refers to the change in skin color in patches across the body. These could occur all over the body including your face. Skin pigmentation problems primarily include:

  • Hyperpigmentation: The darkening of skin in specific areas
  • Hypopigmentation: The lightening or development of paler spots on the skin.

Both of these disorders are caused by anomalies in the levels of melanin (the pigment that imparts color to the skin, hair) with either overproduction or underproduction of the pigment.

Primary causes of hyperpigmentation:
Although both problems affect the skin in a multitude of ways, the excess deposition of melanin causing skin darkening is much more common than the hypo-pigmentation variety. Some of the causes of hyperpigmentation are described as follows:

  1. Sun damage: This is one of the obvious factors that will cause skin pigmentation as sun exposure causes melanocytes or melanin producing cells within the skin to become hyperactive and thus cause dark patches.
  2. Hormonal issues: Another common issue which results in patches are hormonal changes or issues within the body such as spikes in estrogen or progesterone levels or even problems with insulin.
  3. Other factors: Diet and lifestyle are also other factors which may cause internal changes that reflect on your skin. Even using certain skin care products and using certain medications can result in skin hyper pigmentation.

Skin brightening techniques:
Some of the common skin brightening techniques that are used to deal with skin hyper-pigmentation are:

  1. Chemical methods to brighten skin: Chemicals such as peels, exfoliates and other brightening products change the skin color by affecting the epidermis or the top layer of the skin. Some of these medications and products are made with retinol and tretinoin and other chemicals which push vitamin A into the skin to lighten the tone.
  2. Prevention of pigmentation: The best method to fight pigmentation is to not let it happen in the first place and sunscreen is a great way to go about it. Sun damage is by far the most common cause for pigmentation issues. Also dietary and other lifestyle changes, such as excessive alcohol consumption may cause skin pigmentation. Keep off tobacco and limit your alcohol consumption.
  3. Use of Mechanical means: Mechanical means, such as dermabrasion (cosmetically removing the skin’s superficial layers), microdermabrasion (removal of dead skin cells from the face) and lasers and other means actually skim away a thin layer of skin to allow for new skin to grow back which results in the elimination of pigmentation.

It is however, advisable that you visit your dermatologist first and then decide on the best course of action to deal with skin pigmentation problems as well as devise a strategy to halt further skin darkening.
