Activities of Daily Living Like Accessing a Car s Trunk After a Disc Pain

Activities of Daily Living

Activities of daily living (ADLs) are activities that we do on a regular basis as part of our daily life: driving, bathing, shaving, housework, yard work , dressing, and toileting. In healthcare, a great emphasis is placed on the importance of being able to perform these basic functions of normal living. This article is dedicated to helping anyone with a lumbar disc herniation adapt his or her life to allow healing to take place. One of the key components to healing from a disc injury is to remove the cause of injury and the causes of irritation. In this chapter we will identify ways to protect the spine from further injury while participating in activities of daily living. The prevailing concept in protecting the lumbar discs is based on maintaining a neutral arch of the spine in activities of daily living and avoiding flexion of the spine (bending forward).

Bending the spine forward distorts the nucleus of the discs in a potentially injurious manner.

Maintaining a health lordosis (arch) is protective of the lumbar disc.

Accessing a Car’s Trunk

1.Do not bend at the waist to access a car’s trunk. This is especially dangerous after prolonged driving (due to creep)

2.When accessing the trunk of a car, avoid bending at the waist. Instead, place a foot on the bumper or use the “golfer’s tilt” to minimize the risk of injury. Strive to maintain a neutral arch in the lower back.

3.The golfer’s tilt allows a protective cantilever effect to protect the disc from flexion. In a golfer’s tilt all motion occurs at the hip, not the spine.

Have a back pain in the L3 and L4 region and had difficulty sleeping on my back what do I do?
Back pain indicates that you are suffering from any medical condition. Back pain is the most common symptom that people experience due to spasms, muscle tension, herniated discs, ankylosing spondylitis, spinal stenosis, osteoporosis. Back pain can be temporarily pacified with the help of dry or wet hot compresses as per the condition. Strengthening exercises like yoga and light weight can help strengthen your lower back and stable your spine. A detailed analysis of back with the help of X-Ray and MRI will determine the right course of treatment. Do not ignore back pain for a long time, bring it to the notice of an experienced doctor or Panchkarma specialist or share your mri with me.

I have wrist pain from 2years my age 38years please find me a parchment solution.

COMT, MPTh/MPT
Physiotherapist, Surat
I have wrist pain from 2years my age 38years please find me a parchment solution.
Mostly pain in wrist is due to strained or inflamed soft tissues like tendon. There are many other reasons why pain in wrist occurs so to rule out the exact cause you need to go for proper investigation. After looking to your pain I would recommed you for some care that you can take at home. If possible visit some physio who can give you several mdalities like us, ift etc to cure the pain. Along with it we have a special program designed like pnf, hold relax etc just to get relief from pain. Precautions: 1. Avoid weight lifting. 2. Avoid doing twisting moments like supination-pronation which usally is done while playing badmitton or while washing clothes. 3. Give rest to your work for some days. 4. Wear wrist band to rest your muscles. 5. Avoid bending your wrist into positions that cause the symptoms. Treatment: 1. Give rest to your wrist. If severe pain you can use sling/band to avoid gravity pressure. 2. Take alum in hot water and take fermentation with that water thrice a day for 15-20 minutes. While your hand is in water do some exercises like close hand, open hand, making circle from indivisual fingers etc. 3. Massage using your 2 fingers over the painful area. 4. Exercises: start the exercise once your pain is decreased atleast 50-60% a) palm lifting b) wrist up and down in gravity eliminated position c) strengthening of wrist muscles. D) strenthening of all finger muscles. E) making fist and then open hand. For any query please contact me right away. Good luck and get well soon.
