How important it is to get checked IOP. How it is done? Does age matters in this? I'm 47 years old and read about it ...
Hello Iop evaluation is a part of general eye check up it is checked by an instrument known as tonometer your symptoms are not suggestive of glaucoam but it is suggestive of allergic conjunctivitis 1. Eye allergies, called allergic conjunctivitis, are a common condition that occurs when the eyes react to something that irritates them (called an allergen). 2. The eyes produce a substance called histamine to fight off the allergen. As a result, the eyelids and conjunctiva (the thin, filmy membrane that covers the inside of your eyelids) become red, swollen and itchy, with tearing and burning. The key to treating eye allergies is a. Avoid or limit contact with the substance causing the problem. B. Avoid rubbing eyes instead do cold compresses. C. Use antiallergic eyedrop like olopat eyedrop twice daily d. Lubricating eyedrop like flogel thrice daily e. Use mild steroid like flurisone in pulse dose in severe allergy this will help you I am very sorry dear to say that there is no medicine that can cure allergy. Only way is to stay away from all those things that you are allergic to. This is a provisional diagnosis. Consult your ophthalmologist for detailed examination.

Burning sensation may be due to conjunctivitis or foreign body irritation. If it does not go away, you need to see an eye doctor.

Diabetic Retinopathy - Understanding the Stages of Disorder!

Diabetic Retinopathy - Understanding the Stages of Disorder!

Also termed as diabetic eye disease, this is a disease in which the retina gets damaged due to diabetes. This usually leads to blindness. In most cases, as inferred from various studies, this affects people who have had diabetes for more than 20 years. Diabetic retinopathy can also be a problem for women during pregnancy. With proper monitoring and treatment, this disease can be cured. One major way to prevent this disease could be by regulating diabetes.

Signs and symptoms
Like many other eye disorders, this too has no warning signs. However, in general, people with macular edema are likely to have blurred vision, making it hard for the individuals to carry out tasks like driving and reading. In most cases, if not treated, the situations may worsen with time.

Stages of disorder

  1. Initial stage: In the initial stage, it is called non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy. There are generally no visible symptoms and patients may even have a normal 20/20 vision. The only way to detect non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy is by fundus photography in which the microscopic bulges that are filled with blood can be detected in the artery walls. In case, the patient suffers from reduced vision, to see the back of the eye, a fluorescein angiography is performed. This way the blocked and narrowed retinal blood vessels are visible. The lack of blood flow due to blocked blood vessels is called ischemia. Macular edema can occur at any stage of non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy. In this condition, the contents of the blood vessels leak into the macula region, thereby causing blurred vision, distorted images, etc. In such cases, optical coherence tomography can be carried out to show the areas in which retinal thickening has occurred.
  2. Second stage: The second stage is termed as proliferative diabetic retinopathy. In this stage, occurrence of new abnormal blood vessels is seen. These form at the back of the eye. These blood vessels are fragile and hence can easily burst and bleed, thereby causing the vision to blur. If this occurs for the first time, it may not be severe. Only a few specs of blood or spots floating on the visual field of the patients can be noticed. Within a few days, these spots may enlarge and the leakage of blood may increase, which can impact vision. The blood might take a few days till a year to clear entirely. In some circumstances, the blood might not clear at all. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Ophthalmologist.

Diminition of vision without any pathology is known as amblyopia & in common language called lazy eye. Amblyopic eye can only be treated upto 10 years with the help of occlusion &,pleoptic treatment which is not available every where, you will have consult eye hospital with well equipped orthopedics & pleoptic department with well trained paramedical staff. Parents  with amblyopic child will have to search such hospital .I have experience of minimum 2000 children getting 6/6 or 6/9 from less than 6/60 vision but diagnosis of amblyopia before 10 years is must because there is not much improvement even after dedicated pleoptic for 2-3 months. Lazy eye ultimately to divergent squint because it takes anatomical position, our eyes are straight because vision keeps eye straight. Eyes with no Vision or very less vision will always lead to divergent squint, so eyes with divergent squint even after squint surgery again results into divergent squint. Most important point to note here is if amblyopic child vision is restored normal with the help of pleoptic treatment & the operated for Squint surgery it will remain straight & have binocular single Vision through out life & child will never face the problem of divergent squint again in life.

Whats the basic reason behind the different colors of eye? Is there a way through which it can be altered? Any answer...
The color of the eye is dependent chiefly upon the color of the iris. The iris is a diaphragm that controls the amount of light entering the eye. The color of the iris is in turn dependent upon the amount of melanin pigmentation present in it. There are multiple factors that are affect the amount of melanin pigmentation. One of the main factors is: (1) race. The pigmentation is more in asians and africans whereas it is relatively lesser in europeans and people of white races.
