General Physician,
SUNSCREEN FOR YOUR SKIN

The best sunscreen is one that you'll use generously and according to label directions. Here's help understanding sunscreen ingredients, types of sunscreen and more.

Confused about the best sunscreen to use? Wondering whether sunscreen can be harmful?

What's the best way to sort through information about sunscreens?

Start by remembering the bigger picture when it comes to sun safety and what you can do to protect yourself. For example:

Avoid the sun during peak hours. Generally, this is between 10 a.M. And 2 p.M. ? regardless of season. These are prime hours for exposure to skin-damaging ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun, even on overcast days.
Wear protective clothing. This includes pants, shirts with long sleeves and sunglasses. Top it off with a wide-brimmed hat. Also, consider investing in sun-protective clothing or using an umbrella for shade.
Use sunscreen. Apply sunscreen generously and reapply regularly.
Is there any truth to the claim that sunscreen use encourages excessive sun exposure and, as a result, increases the risk of skin cancer?

Most experts strongly disagree with this claim. Research also hasn't shown a link between sunscreen use and an increase in the risk of skin cancer. On the other hand, research has shown that use of sunscreen can reduce the risk of melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer.

What does a broad-spectrum sunscreen do?

There are two types of UV light that can harm your skin ? UVA and UVB. A broad-spectrum, or full-spectrum, sunscreen is designed to protect you from both.

UVA rays can prematurely age your skin, causing wrinkling and age spots. UVB rays can burn your skin. Too much exposure to UVA or UVB rays can cause skin cancer. The best sunscreen offers protection from all UV light.

Does the best sunscreen also have the highest SPF?

SPF stands for sun protection factor, which is a measure of how well the sunscreen deflects UVB rays. Manufacturers calculate SPF based on how long it takes to sunburn skin that's been treated with the sunscreen as compared with skin that hasn't been treated with sunscreen.

Theoretically, the best sunscreen has the highest SPF number. It's not that simple, however. When applied correctly, a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 will provide slightly more protection from UVB rays than does a sunscreen with an SPF of 15. But the SPF 30 product isn't twice as protective as the SPF 15 product. Sunscreens with SPFs greater than 50 provide only a small increase in UVB protection.

Also, keep in mind that sunscreen is often not applied thoroughly or thickly enough, and it might be washed off during swimming or sweating. As a result, even the best sunscreen might be less effective than the SPF number on the bottle would lead you to believe.

Rather than looking at a sunscreen's SPF, choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that will protect you from UVA and UVB rays

Confused about the best sunscreen to use? Wondering whether sunscreen can be harmful? Lawrence Gibson, M.D, a dermatologist at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn, offers his guidance.

When you use sunscreen:

Apply generous amounts of sunscreen to dry skin 30 minutes before you go outdoors.
Use sunscreen on all skin surfaces that will be exposed to sun, such as your face, ears, hands, arms and lips. If you don't have much hair on your head, apply sunscreen to the top of your head or wear a hat.
Reapply sunscreen every two hours ? and immediately after swimming or heavy sweating.
Remember that sand, water, snow and concrete reflect sunlight and make it even more important to use sunscreen.
Since UV light can pass through clouds, use sunscreen even when it's cloudy.
You can apply sunscreen to children as young as age 6 months. Keep younger children in the shade as much as possible.

Use sunscreen year-round, but don't let any product lull you into a false sense of security about sun exposure. A combination of shade, clothing, sunscreen and common sense is your best bet.

Hi, Wash your face with Bakson's Facewash (wash your face with warm water only) and followed by CTMP, i. E. Cleansing, toning, moisturising and protection (apply liberally Sunscreen Gel with SPF-30) after washing your face daily. Prevention: -Take healthy food only and avoid unhealthy ones (although sebaceous glands are not excretory glands then as well!) as what you eat is reflected on your face! -Avoid taking unnecessary stress/ tension as it encourages secretion of stress hormone in the body as thus affects skin or any other tissue of the body. -Drink atleast 8-10 glasses of water in a day. -Take 6-8hrs. Of sound sleep everyday. -Don't use others towels, handkerchief on your face as well as never share yours. -Never ever rub your face as it damages the skin (even towel should be dab on skin softly) and break outs of acne get worsened! -Maintain hygiene, wash your face 2-3times in a day, changes the pillow covers, bed sheet daily, use cotton bed sheet only (try to sleep on your back). Home-made remedies: - Take 1 tbsp of fuller's earth (multani mitti) + a dash of lime + bit of rosewater – apply this on your face till it gets dried up, then rinse it off. - Take 1 tsp of Alum (or fitkari), make it slightly wet with water and apply this on your wet face, spread it well; let it dry and rinse it off. Alum remove your excessive moisture or oil and it also tightens the skin's tonicity. Medication: You can take homoeopathic medicines – Berberis Aquefolium Q/ 10 drops in 1/2 cup of water/ thrice a day (and for local application as well) and Kali Brom. 200/ thrice a day – for 30 days.

Massage olive oil over the scar. Rub approximately 1 tbsp of olive oil onto your scars. Use less if the scar is small. Massage the oil into your scars for approximately 5 minutes to help loosen up the scar tissue. Leave the oil on your skin for roughly 10 minutes, then wipe it off with a clean cloth.

I have pimples on my face and it is very uneasy to go out with friends, how can I recover this?
The eruption of pimples, acne, black heads, black spots, scars, pores and oily face are due to excessive sebum secreted by sebaceous glands and hair follicles especially on the face. Precautions- * Don't scratch or pinch your pimples. This will cause more damage---scars and black spots. * Avoid fried and oily foods. * Prefer fruits and green vegetables. * When you apply any cream, sun screen and the like, clean your face at the earliest, so that there will be no adverse action of the chemicals on the delicate skin of face. *For your information, many skin creams (mostly fairness cream brands) are considered harmful and banned by Central Govt, Health ministry during March, 2016. The Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL) supported the ban. *Your skin ‘breaths’ through its pores which are not to be closed for long. Blocking pores by creams may cause more pimples. HOMOEOPATHIC medicines are taken internally. Hence, NO DIRECT CONTACT with your delicate and sensitive skin, thereby no problem of skin allergy. Homoeopathy has good treatment without causing adverse effects. The medicines work internally, tackle the root of the problem unlike face cream which is a surface treatment. Take Antim crud 200—once daily in the morning.

Juice of potato for controlling hair fall lack of vitamins and minerals can cause dry and brittle hairs which can trigger hair fall. Potato can be a good remedy to control hair fall in this case. Potato is rich in vitamin b6, vitamin c, manganese, phosphorus, copper and niacin which can be helpful for boosting hair growth. Crush some cleaned potato and squeeze out the juice. Now apply this fresh juice directly onto your scalp and hairs. Leave on for 30 minutes to an hour but do not let the pack get dry. Wash off with plenty of water.

Many men who suffer from hair loss are found to have zinc deficiencies. Zinc plays a key role in many of the body’s functions, from cell reproduction to hormonal balance, and all these functions affect hair growth. Perhaps most importantly, zinc manages the glands that attach to your hair follicles. When you’re low on zinc, these follicles become weak, causing strands to break off or fall out. To combat this problem, eat zinc-heavy foods such as red meats, poultry, mussels, shrimp, nuts, and oysters. Excessive amounts of zinc can eventually lead to hair loss, so it’s best to stick to a zinc-heavy diet rather than eat these foods and take a zinc supplement.

Hair tips for better hair growth 1. Having a healthy diet - Having a diet which is full of protein, vitamins and minerals is an important aid towards having healthier hair growth. Consume food which is high in vitamin A, B, C and E. Vitamin B-complex is another very effective vitamin for promoting hair growth. For the minerals, try and consume iron, copper, zinc, selenium and magnesium. Walnuts, beans, flax seeds are rich in omega 3 fatty acids which are great for hair growth You could also have some juices of fruits and veggies, like orange, grapefruit or carrot, lettuce and beet 2. Castor oil has a high content of vitamin E and essential fatty acids, like omega 9. This is why it is an essential ingredient which helps to promote hair growth. Castor oil is too thick to be applied directly, which is why you must dilute it with oil like coconut, almond or olive. Massage your hair with the oil mix and leave it on for 30-45 minutes. You could also slightly get it heated. Shampoo your hair and condition as regular. 3. Regular scalp massage - When you massage your scalp, it promotes blood circulation which in turn stimulates our hair follicles. Along with that, deep condition the hair once a week with warm oil treatment or a deep conditioning hair mask. 4. Staying stress-less - Stress is one of the worst factors which contribute to hair loss. Stress disrupts the regular hair cycle and boosts strands of hair to fall out of place. You need to calm your senses and promote lesser stress! For handling stress, try and mediate, do breathing exercises or practice other relaxation techniques 5. Egg masks - Egg is an important ingredient from promoting better hair growth. They are full of protein and are added on with minerals like iron, sulfur, selenium, zinc, etc. Use an egg mask once or twice a month for promoting healthy hair and improved growth 6. Vitamin and herbal supplements - Supplements of folic acid, biotin, flaxseed oil, are some common elements for hair growth. Supplements of folic acid and biotin will have Vitamin B complex which aids to better hair growth. 7. Nourish hair with aloe vera - Aloe vera improves hair growth and protects from hair loss. You also reduce dandruff and restore the natural shine. Take fresh aloe vera gel and add some lemon juice to it Apply and let it soak for 20 minutes Shampoo the hair and repeat once a week 8. Be hydrated, have proper sleep, do oil you scalp twice a week for more queries, contact us.
