Lybrate-user, if you have hypothyroidism, then if that is not well controlled then weight gain will continue. So first thing is to bring tsh levels down to 3 to 4 milli units/l, by aking appropriate dose of thyroxine. Then your efforts to control weight will be successful. It is not correct to say once weight gain occurs then it can not be lost.

This is a behavioral problem like sleep walking, the person is not aware of urinating in bed, do not remind her or embarass her. Reassure her, wake her up in sleep and tell her to go to toilet. Reduce fluid intake 3 hours before going to sleep, let her go to toilet just before sleep. No medicines, as they are addictive and carry lots of side effects though some doctors are prescribing.

Dietary Tips to Prevent Anaemia in Pregnant Women

Your body goes through drastic changes when you are pregnant. Your body makes more blood during pregnancy; for instance, prior to pregnancy, your body made approximately 5 litres of blood, but now it produces 7 to 8 litres of it.

Producing excess red blood cells requires haemoglobin, which in turn requires plenty of folate, iron and vitamin B12. If there is a deficiency in any of these requirements, you might develop anaemia.

Anaemia is a condition, which is characterized by a lack of red blood cells in the body. The risks of becoming anaemic during pregnancy include:

  1. Being extremely fatigued
  2. Miscarriages, premature birth, or low birth-weight
  3. The baby can inherit anaemia from the mother
  4. The child can have certain developmental delays
  5. Postpartum depression (post-childbirth depression)

How it can be prevented?
To prevent such risks, it is important to implement the proper diet. Here are some dietary tips to prevent anaemia during pregnancy:

1. Consume iron-rich foods: Foods that provide you with the best source of iron are 

  • Poultry and eggs
  • Dark green and leafy vegetables (for example: spinach, broccoli and kale)
  • Seeds and nuts
  • Beans and lentils
  • Tofu
  • Beetroot
  • Ripe bananas

2. Don't forget the supplements: Foods are great sources of the nutrients you require, but they may be lacking at times. Ask your doctor for supplements like vitamin, folic acid and iron supplements mostly. Consuming supplements before pregnancy can go a long way in preventing anaemia.

3. Folic acid is important: Folic acid is very important for pregnant women. You must consume 400 milligrams of it to prevent anaemia and birth defects in babies. Foods that are rich in folic acid include:

  • Beans
  • Muesli
  • Broccoli
  • Brussel sprouts
  • Asparagus

4. Vitamins are crucial: Vitamin C helps in iron absorption which boosts haemoglobin production. Some foods rich in vitamin C include

  • Citrus fruits
  • Strawberries
  • Kiwis
  • Tomatoes
  • Bell peppers

5. Be vigilant while cooking: Sometimes while cooking foods, the wrong method can strip them of their iron content. So be careful not to fry, boil or stew such foods too much. Certain foods are best consumed raw; read the labels properly if in doubt.

6. Abstain from certain habits: Alcohol, tea, cigarette and coffee hinder iron absorption. So stop consuming them if you are trying to conceive or have conceived.

Hello lybrate-user, some tips to lose weight are 1.1. Eat small and frequent 4 -5 meals in a day, instead of 3 heavy meals. 2. Drink 3 -4 lts of water daily. 3. Include high-protein foods like milk and milk products, paneer, dals, soybeans, eggs, chicken/fish (if non-vegetarian). Reduce excess carbohydrate intake like rice, banana, chips, burgers, pizzas, etc 4. Minimize sugar intake in the form of sweets, cakes, pastries, chocolates, etc 5. Use less of oil to cook your food as well as stop eating fried stuff like puris, chips, samosas, etc. 6. Include 30 minutes brisk walks 5-6 times a week.

There are many reasons for pain around umbilicus. One of them is non specific known as idiopathic. Since Scan is normal, it may be idiopathic, such pain disappears on its own after some time. If your son otherwise is normal, need not to worry. Just console him, you may give warm fomentation to the part. Hernia is visible on the part which can be easily detected. Gastric related problems present with other associated symptoms.

Hi Firstly Wheat Flour and Atta Flour means the same thing. One is English name and other is Hindi. As per your weight and height your BMI is 35.38 which comes in Obesity Class 2. You need to take immediate and drastic steps to bring this down and take charge of your health. 1. Start taking 3-4 fruits everyday. 2. Cut out all Colas - Fruit Juices and sugary drinks 3. Eat more vegetables. 4. Take 20 almonds everyday. 5. Eat meals/ small snack every 3 hours. 6. Cut out all oils / parathas / puris / fried food / junk food 7. Statistics show that lifestyle disorders such as diabetes are on the rise, and one of the primary reasons for this is the radical diet change that has happened in the past score. The current diet trends are focused on carbohydrates and unhealthy fats. Fast food has attained prominence because of time constraints; people are now busier and thus prefer food on the go. Maximum of such ‘on the go’ alternatives are packed with unhealthy sugars.

So if you are looking to lose fat, diet is the point where you would want to start. Here is a DIY guide to make that fat disappear:

  1. Eliminate Hidden Sugars: First of all, avoid buying processed food and you won’t require this step. But for some of you, who don’t always have access to home cooked food – there is still hope. If you are buying packaged foods, then read the label very carefully. Avoid foods whose sugar content is more than 5 grams.

  2. Include Complex Carbohydrates: Foods that contain complex carbohydrates are better than foods that contain simple carbohydrates. The reason being that complex carbohydrates are absorbed slowly into the bloodstream, without spiking the blood sugar levels. A piece of advice over here would be to watch the portions.

  3. Eat Fat: Contrary to popular belief, eating fat does not make you fat. Fat is required in the body for many of its functions. The aim is to control the potion size as fat contains higher amount of calories. Fat makes you fuller so that you eat less. Include foods such as almonds and walnuts as they are healthy snacks.

  4. Restrict Fruit Intake: Fruits are good for you as they are a good source of various Vitamins and antioxidants. However, one of the downsides of fruits is that they contain fructose, which is the fruit sugar. Pick fruits that are low on sugar such as watermelon, guava and pear.

  5. Pick healthy when you go out: If you must eat outside, then select dishes low on the carb count. Go for salads without the fat filled dressings; you could ask for a sprinkle of olive oil and some spices. Hi, do regular exercise and streching. For increasing weight and height best natural way is start doing surya namskar in the morning. No drink before or with meal. You should take 2 banana with warm milk in the morning. Include protein rich food in your diet like soyabean, sattu, eggs, sprouts, milk and milk products, combination of cereals and pulses, take healthy and heavy breakfast. Take small and frequent meals.
