Worried About Dementia?

Worried about dementia?

Getting a diagnosis
If you are worried about yourself, or someone close to you, it is worth discussing your concerns with your general practitioner (GP). A diagnosis will help the doctor rule out other illnesses that might have similar symptoms to dementia, including depression. There are drugs available that appear to alleviate some of the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease in some people. Whether you are someone with dementia or a carer, a diagnosis can help you to prepare and plan for the future.
Every person experiences dementia in their own individual way, but there is usually a decline in memory, reasoning and communication skills and a gradual loss of the skills needed to carry out daily activities. If you are feeling confused, agitated or forgetful, you should see your GP. If you are close to someone who is showing these symptoms, you could suggest that you accompany them on their first visit.

Becoming forgetful does not necessarily mean that you have dementia. Memory loss can be an effect of ageing. It can also be a symptom of stress or depression. In rare cases, dementia-like symptoms can be caused by vitamin deficiencies and/or a brain tumour.
The GP is the first person to consult. The GP may then refer the person being diagnosed to a specialist consultant. Assessments can include conversations with the person being diagnosed and those close to them, a physical examination, memory tests and/or brain scans.

You need a good physiotherapy and correct diagnosis. Exercises r very simple but for that the exact pain site shud be known. It could be a nerve conpression with muscle spasm so you can avail consult anytime. Take care.

I have facial paraylise for six years. I am 30years age. Someone guide me for this.

Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Bachelor of Physical Therapy
Physiotherapist, Hyderabad
Facial paralysis at your age is mostly due to bells palsy and you need to get it diagnosed correctly. Sometimes our facial nerve stops functioning due to unknow reason and one side of face muscles get weak. Usually the function returns in few weeks to couple months. During that time it is very important to keep these small muscles in face from loosing muscle mass (called atrophy) I can help with an exercise plan to strengthen the face muscles and improve closing of eyes, closing of mouth, smile etc. Keep a positive attitude and keep working at these exs. Check with a neurologist if any meds can help too. Good luck.

My husband is having migraine from past 2 months he is under treatment taking tablets from 15 days. He is living in tamilnadu next week we planned to go for Bangalore and settle for 1 month does climatic changes affect his health sir?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine, Fellow In Pain Management, DM - Neurology
Neurologist, Gurgaon
Hello..Yes climate does affect migraine..hot and sunny weather is bad as it can precipitate migraine.. Banglore has an even climate throughout so it won't be a problem.. Migraine treatment usually lasts 6 months to 1 yr..but it depends on the response.. If good response we can stop the medicines but if poor response then it can continue longer..meanwhile avoid stress, caffeine, bright light or bright sound to have good sleep etc.

My cousin is suffering from migraine from past 10 years. Please suggest the treatment.

MBBS, MD Psychiatry, DNB Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Nagpur
Migraine is a kind of relapsing headache. Its symptoms include - episodic unilateral or bilateral, severe and pulsating headaches, associated at times with nausea and vomiting, relieved momentarily on rest or taking medications and aggravated by precipitating factors like sleep deprivation, loud noises, continued sun exposure, allergy to some agents etc. The treatment of migraine is mainly done for relief from acute headache attacks and later treatments to prevent future relapses. Also treatment of factors which tend to cause relapses is also important. Consult a headache specialist for treatmnet. You may contact me online for an further queries and management.

Is there any homeopathic medicine for nerve pinching and lower back pain which runs till the feet? And what is the do...
Low back ache and for this you can follow these measures: one keep a pillow right under the knee while sleeping, next is you can keep ice in the painful area for about 5--10 minutes, if pain still persists you can stretch your body by twisting the waist on both sides how we used to do in the school drill similarly you can try which will help you relax as well will reduce the pain. Ice can be kept in the low back where you have back pain. It is suggestible to wear Lumbo sacral belt which would help you to build the abdominal muscle tone which itself would make you feel better. You can also wear MCR Chappals which would help you to have less weight falling in the painful back. Anemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having back / leg pain though there may not be any pathological reasons for back pain. Back pain. That is where the Sciatic nerve passes by and the nerve gets compressed that's the reason you have pain and sensation is disturbed. Pain in the left side of the leg/thigh The compression of the sciatic nerve should be around the right side that's the reason you have pain in the left side. That's the reason you cannot sit or stand and it is exactly around the L5 vertebrae where the sciatic nerve passes by. It can also be due to the strain on the left leg, try wearing MCR chappals which would help you to get relieved from pai Physiotherapy Treatment If you have low back pain and sciatica you can undergo intermittent pelvic traction where in your half of your body weight will be added in the electronic traction so that that would help you to reduce the pain, along with Interferential therapy stimulations which would help you to get relieved from the radiating pain. Apply ice for the pain to get subsided immediately.
