Back pain can result from bad posture, a sudden jerky movement, a lumpy mattress or poor lifting techniques. It can also be caused by injury in a work place, by a sports accident or by muscular spasms. It often occurs during pregnancy or, because of decreased flexibility, as people get older. There are also many diseases and pathological conditions that can lead to back pain. These include abdominal or pelvic disease, anxiety, arthritis, cervical or lumbar spondylosis, dermatological problems, kidney disease, rheumatic conditions, tumours and scoliosis. Our modern, sedentary lifestyles have a profound effect on the development of back pain; indeed one of the most effective ways of preventing it is simply to stay active. An average adult in the India spends at least two hours a day in front of a computer screen or television set, and back problems can be triggered if they don’t sit properly. In an age of mobile phones and computer games, such troubles are increasingly inflicting children of school age as well. Top tips for back care: For back pain, better to see your Doctor sooner than later. Take regular exercise – your Doctor can say what’s right for you. Hours in one position can cause problems – avoid computer ‘hump’. During repetitive tasks, vary your rhythm and take frequent breaks. Adjust car seats and on long journeys, take regular breaks to stretch. Pace yourself with heavy work such as gardening – don’t risk a disc! Watch children’s posture – they shouldn’t carry bags on one shoulder or spend too long at a computer without breaks. Avoid strain when lifting, particularly small children and shopping. Your bed could be part of the problem. Seek Doctor advice on choosing a new one. Take a hot bath or shower, soaking in a hot tub, or using a heating pad, hot water bottle, or heat wrap that provides continuous, low-level heat are all ways to bring healing warmth to your lower back.

I had a scooter accident on 25th march 2018 and I was not able to stand properly on my left leg. It was only after a crape bandage was put around my left knee could I stand or walk. I had to take rest for two days and there was no inflammation or swelling and the pain also got subjugated. A few days after this there was pain in the inner side of my left knee bend and it spread to my feet a point just at the joint of little finger and ring finger at the inner side of my left feet. Consulted a doctor and a mri was taken and the impressions are: * degenerative tear in body of lateral meniscus *oblique tear in posterior horn of medial meniscus *joint effusion with effusion in sprapatellar bursa *bone contusion in medial patellar facet and lateral femoral condyle - possibly reduced patellar dislocation. No high grade tears in patellofemoral ligament *tricompartmental osteoarthritis. I have been under treatment since april and tried allopathic and ayurvedic treatments with no reduction of the pain and also I get numbness in my left leg from feet onwards and left lumbar down words within a minute or so of my standing on my legs, which continues for two/three minutes and start disappearing, but the numbness of the feet still persists till I sit down. Once I sit, the numbness goes. Can any of your doctors help me to get the right kind of treatment. Will homoeopathy would be of any help? I have taken paracetamol injection, neuron injections, pain killers and vitamin tabs. Now I am on vibralon plus - 1/day (methyl cobalamin, alpha lipoic acid, benffaliamine, inositol, folic acid, chromium and selenium tablets) & gabazen (gabapentin tab) -1 tab at night. Kindly help me with your expert advice pl. (vijayan)

If it is a fresh injury, then bed rest is a must. Make sure, you have no neurological deficit. For pain you can take paracetamol tabs. Tab bdx 5days contact me again if no relief in next 2-3 days.
