Kindly advice.
Hello thanks for the query You won't get worried if he responds to sound, clearly speaks papa and mama and other motor and social milestones are normal. In the current era of gadgets/television and nuclear family it has been observed that the language development lags behind. Just observe about the development and try to interact more with the baby. I hope this helps. Regards.

Why Is Breastfeeding Is A Saviour For Your Baby & You | World Breastfeeding Week

Why Is Breastfeeding Is A Saviour For Your Baby & You | World Breastfeeding Week
Why is breastfeeding so good for your baby and you

Breast milk is the best for babies and the benefits of breastfeeding are one too many. Breast milk not only supplies your baby with its requirement of vitamins and nutrients, but also gets the substances which fight diseases, making your baby healthy and strong.
Benefits of breastfeeding are:

1. Protects Your Body - Breastfeeding induces some changes in your body which you might not be very delighted to accept, but are for the sake of your baby. Did you know, these very changes benefit you as well. Studies have proved that women who breastfeed are protected against breast and ovarian cancer. The longer you feed, the more protected you are.
2. Reduces Stress - Adding to the benefits of breastfeeding you can derive, is the fact that it helps you reduce stress. It also lessens your risk of postpartum depression. Breastfeeding has been found to be relaxing since it releases the hormone called oxytocin. This release also helps the uterus contract.
3. Averts Risk For Baby - A breastfed baby has lower risk of sudden infant death syndrome.
4. Reduces Obesity Risk In Baby - Breastfed babies have lower chances of obesity. They are good at judging when their tummies are full and therefore stop drinking on time. This leads to healthy growth pattern. Compared to babies who are fed on formula, breastfed babies gain weight at slower speed, hence reducing chances of obesity later in life.
5. Increases Cognitive Skills - Multiple researches have shown that there is a direct relationship between cognitive development and breastfeeding.
6. Enhances Baby’s Immunity - Breastfeed babies are also said to be better protected from developing allergies as immune factors like secretory igA is present only in breast milk. It creates a protective layer on the babys intestinal tract. Babies who aren't breastfeed are known to fall sick pretty frequently as formula diet doesn't build their immunity as mother's milk does.

Hi. My son is having tie tongue. He is 3.5 years old. My query is what is the correct age to treat it? What is the correct way to treat it? Is there any other complications in it? What kind of specialist doctor needed to treat it? Pediatric or ENT?

MBBS, MD
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
When child can not take out the tongue and have spongy franum below tongue to connect base of pharynx we call it tongue tie. Well if you thing child doesnot speek because of tongue tie. You are wrong. Because we do not speak by tongue. Tongue is for taste and propell the food backwards.

Her wt at this age should be about 13 kg. She is definitely under wt. It is better to consult pediatrician. Add fibrous food in her diet and increase quantity of water to drink, that may resolve her constipation.

Your Child and Dental Health

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai

It's important to teach kids about cavities at an early age. The more they know about how to keep their teeth healthy, the more likely it is that they'll develop good dental habits - and keep those up throughout their lives.

Here are some pointers so you can talk to your kids about cavities and how to prevent them.

What are cavities and what causes them?

A cavity is a hole that forms in a tooth. Everything we eat and drink, especially sweets forms plaque. If we're not careful, plaque can attack our teeth and damage them.

Why are cavities bad?

A cavity causes harm to your tooth, and it can also be painful to you. If left untreated, the hole can grow and get bigger or deeper. It may get so big that that the whole tooth gets damaged. If that happens, your dentist may have to remove it.

How can I protect my teeth from cavities?

Cavities can form if we eat too many sweets and don't clean our teeth properly. The best way to protect your teeth is to choose healthy snacks like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Try to avoid sugary foods and drinks, like candy and soda.

If you do eat sweets, have them with your lunch or dinner, and then brush your teeth right after. When sugar stays on your teeth for a long time it can cause damage, so try not to snack throughout the day when you may not be able to brush. You should also brush your teeth after an ever meal, or at least twice a day. And don't forget to visit your dentist every six months for regular checkups!

What if I think I have a cavity?

A cavity can be painful, so if your child has a toothache, schedule an appointment with your dentist right away. At the appointment, the dentist will look at your child's teeth and take x-rays to see if there is a cavity.

What happens if I get a cavity?

If you have a cavity, your dentist can help. He or she will give you some medicine to numb your mouth and make you comfortable. They'll use a special drill to remove the damaged part of your tooth. Then they'll fill everything in with a special material, and you'll have what's called a filling.

Remember that healthy dental habits are the best way to prevent cavities. The more you can teach your kids about good hygiene and serve as a role model, the better off their dental health will be in the long run!

Tips To Help You Reduce The Risk Of Type 2 Diabetes

Tips To Help You Reduce The Risk Of Type 2 Diabetes

Here are some tips to help you reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes.

Check your risk of diabetes. Take the life! risk assessment test and learn more about your risk of developing type 2 diabetes. A 12+ score indicates that you are at high risk and may be eligible for the life! program - a free victorian lifestyle modification program that helps you reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Manage your weight. Excess body fat, particularly if stored around the abdomen, can increase the body’s resistance to the hormone insulin. This can lead to type 2 diabetes.

Exercise regularly. Moderate physical activity on most days of the week helps manage weight, reduce blood glucose levels and may also improve blood pressure and cholesterol.

Eat a balanced, healthy diet. Reduce the amount of fat in your diet, especially saturated and trans fats. Eat more fruit, vegetables and high-fibre foods. Cut back on salt.

Limit takeaway and processed foods. convenience meals are usually high in salt, fat and kilojoules. It's best to cook for yourself using fresh ingredients whenever possible.

Limit your alcohol intake. Too much alcohol can lead to weight gain and may increase your blood pressure and triglyceride levels. Men should have no more than two standard drinks a day and women should have no more than one.

Quit smoking. Smokers are twice as likely to develop diabetes as non-smokers.

Control your blood pressure. Most people can do this with regular exercise, a balanced diet and by keeping a healthy weight. In some cases, you might need medication prescribed by your doctor.

Reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease. Diabetes and cardiovascular disease have many risk factors in common, including obesity and physical inactivity.

See your doctor for regular check-ups. As you get older, it's a good idea to regularly check your blood glucose, blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels.

What is cpld food? Then what shall I give to my lactose intolerant 10 month old baby.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
What is cpld food? Then what shall I give to my lactose intolerant 10 month old baby.
If you have already started your baby on solid foods, you can cut down on dairy other than your breastmilk. But curd is fine as it does not contain any lactase. So you can prepare a nice lassi for your little one or give him some raita. Those who are lactose intolerant can often handle small amounts of dairy if they eat it with other foods. If you are formula feeding, your doctor may advise you to switch to a lactose-free or soya based formula for two weeks or so as your baby gets over his lactose intolerence. If your child is older and tests have confirmed he is lactose intolerant, then you may have to make some dietary changes like: Feeding reduced portions of dairy-based foods in combination with non-dairy foods. Not giving a large glass of milk and offering a small portion along with a meal to aid digestion. Choosing foods with less lactose such as curd, paneer and hard cheeses, as they are better tolerated. Substituting milk with soyamilk, almond milk, rice milk or fortified fruit juices. Substituting dairy products with leafy greens, tofu, broccoli, nuts, soya beans, dried fruit. Before you make any changes to your child's diet, always consult a dietitian or a doctor. They can help you plan better. In order to maintain a normal healthy metabolism, everything we eat or drink should be close to our body’s normal temperature. However, particularly in hot weather or as a matter of habit, almost everyone likes to drink cold beverages or eat cold foods (like ice cream) without noticing the potential problems that will be encountered or connecting it to the temperature of the food or drink you take into your body.
