You can take Nutrient-rich foods that improve your health may also benefit your thyroid gland, antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables more plenty of water: Blueberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, and other foods rich in antioxidants can improve overall health and benefit the thyroid gland. Eating foods high in B vitamins, like whole grains, may also help. Selenium: Tiny amounts of selenium are needed for enzymes that make thyroid hormones to work properly. Eating selenium-rich foods, such as sunflower seeds or Brazil nuts, can be beneficial. Tyrosine: This amino acid is used by the thyroid gland to produce T3 and T4. Taking a supplement may help, avoid alcohl if you take. go for morning walk, avoid stress. eat fat less foods. for thyroid you can take tab. thyronorm 100mcg. once a day in morning.

I recently came across a" diabetes powder" in one of the spice gardens in Kerala. Would this powder have any adverse indications for a normal person? I had some allergic reaction within 3 days of trying this powder, so I'm not sure the powder is pure or is it contaminated.

Arhiji, Thanks for the query. To bring down TSH levels to normal it takes at least 6 weeks after starting the treatment with adequate dose of Levothyroxine. When on treatment TSH should be maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L. At that level all the symptoms of hypothyroidism are in check. However, if you want to conceive, then it is essential to maintain TSH level closer to 2 mU/L. Further, during pregnancy TSH should be maintained as follows: 1st Trimester: 0.1 to 2.5 mU/l, 2nd Trimester: 0.2 to 3.0 mU/L & 3rd Trimester: 0.3 to 3.0 mU/l. These levels should be critically adhered to. As lack of thyroxine affects fetal brain development in the first 28 days, later, fetal growth also depends on adequate Thyroxine plus the desired outcome of pregnancy. Thanks.

If you have diabetes, make sure you take care of your mouth. People with diabetes are at risk for mouth infections, especially periodontal (gum) disease. Periodontal disease can damage the gum and bone that hold your teeth in place and may lead to painful chewing problems. Some people with serious gum disease lose their teeth.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Since you are taking Levothyroxine 50 mcg, you have Hypothyroidism. It is essential to maintain TSH level <3 mU/L to be free from all the symptoms hypothyroidism. Please check the level and come back. Also check your blood glucose level both fasting and Pp and come back. Thanks.

I am suffering from thyroid last one year. What should I do for safety. How can I overcome from thyroid.

lybrate-user, Are you referring to "hypothyroidism" or "hyperthyroidism" Because thyroid is the normal gland in everyone of us. When it is not producing enough thyroxine, hypothyroidism develops and excess activity causes hyperthyroidism. In any case since these are hormone related conditions, treatment has to go on for lifetime. If hypothyroidism (which is more common) then thyroxine tablets have to be taken in specified dosage for lifetime. That is the only treatment. Thanks.

When on treatment with thyroxine, tsh levels should come between 3 to 4 milli units, for better control and disappearance of all symptoms. Since your tsh level is 7.41 milli uits/ml, it shows the dose of thyroxine is not adequate. Dose has to go up. In fact in the beginning itself dose should have been higher. If dose is not increased, then most symptoms may come back.
