Any hospital emergency dept. In all likelihood it will not be stuck but you must have already swallowed it. No need to worry. In that case.

Dental Implants

What are dental implant? how safe they are? what is the advantage of an implant?

Whenever, there is a missing tooth, earlier the treatment was to replace it with a plastic denture or with a fixed bridge. A denture requires ugly wires to hold it in place and for the bridge process, cutting the neighbouring healthy teeth is required, in order to provide support to it.

Both had limitations with respect to the number of teeth that could be replaced.

A dental implant is nothing, but a screw made of pure titanium and is fixed in the jaw bone. They are a 100% safe, provided the surgery is well planned and executed keeping the patient's overall medical health in mind and with specific attention given to the amount of remaining bone in the jaw.

Implants can be used to replace a single tooth or many missing teeth. Even if you have no teeth remaining, implants can be used to support a complete denture, thus making them secure and firm in fit.

The entire procedure is relatively painless as it is done under local anaesthesia and within 3 to 6 months with some additional measurements, your dentist will be able to fabricate custom-made teeth for you that allow you to chew and talk just like before!

Keep in mind that along with regular check up, good maintenance on your part as a patient with good hygiene habits, your implants could last for many years. In our practice we have replaced single teeth, multiple missing teeth and entirely missing sets including those with complete dentures for patients from the age of 30 to 85! there is no reason for you not to get a satisfactory result with dental implants!

You should consider getting a professional cleaning done by the dentist. This is just a gum disease and does NOT need any blood test or investigation. Clean your teeth. And maintain good hygiene habits at home.

Fillings for Teeth and Root Canal Treatment

What happens when you have a cavity?

When tooth decay is limited there is no pain. All decay starts on the enamel. Sealants can be applied to reduce the acid attack on the teeth. If detected early, these can be very well managed by removing the decayed portion and filling it with tooth-colored composite resin restorations. Remember that even at a relatively late stage, when the tooth is broken / decayed badly it can built back to its original form.

Glass ionomer cement: this is used for small restorations, especially in primary or milk teeth in children, mostly for economic reasons.
Composites: composite resins attach themselves to the tooth by a chemical reaction. The biggest advantage is that they can be made to match the tooth with the appropriate shade.

Dental pain occurs when the complex supply of blood vessels and nerves (the pulp) is affected by bacteria as they burrow into the tooth layers (enamel and dentin), along with their noxious by-products and acid. The deeper the decay enters, higher the chances of infection and increasing intensity of pain.

What happens when you have a root canal?

Severe excruciating pain is experienced, when decay reaches the pulp is usually with a set of aggravating factors either hot and / or cold. Root canal therapy is required to save the tooth.

Root canal: in root canal treatment, basically the tooth is treated for the infection and all the diseased tissue of the tooth is removed and filled. With good treatment the pain should disappear in a few days. Remember that root canal can be done in single sitting and when done with adequate local anaesthesia (injection) they are pretty much pain free!

Usually a cap is required on the tooth. Ceramic crowns or caps are being made of ceramic material more often; gradually it is becoming the most preferred option since this looks and feels very natural.

A rct is treatment of the nerve of the tooth. If your cavity is deep to cause infection the root canal treatment will solve your problem. But this is if there is enough tooth structure left to save. Sometimes due to decay the tooth may be completely broken in which case it is better to remove it and make a denture etc. As replacement.

Dental Decay and Bleeding Gums

Tooth decay is one of the most common diseases affecting the oral cavity. Dental cavities is a highly prevalent condition, especially among children. In most cases, improper hygiene leads to deposition of food on the tooth. This in turn is acted upon by harmful bacteria, thus releasing acid that dissolves the tooth structure. In most cases, the decay starts on the outside of the tooth and gradually reaches the inner layers.

Gum diseases and bad breath

One would think that if you are decay free, you have a healthy mouth. However, overall oral health requires healthy gums as well. They cover the teeth and provide anchoring support to the jawbones. Minor infection (gingivitis) can progress to a severe condition (periodontitis), which causes teeth to shake and even fall out! It is one of the main causes of bad breath or halitosis too. Swelling of the gums gradually, leads to spontaneous bleeding, which is the first sign of trouble. This can be managed by simply improving oral hygiene. It is advisable to see the dentist.

Treat cavities and bleeding gums

Listed below are some common methods to manage bleeding gums and bad breath:

1. Brushing: Advisable at least twice a day using a soft bristled toothbrush.

2. Flossing: Flossing removes plaque from between the teeth and reduces chances of decay and gum problems

3. Eating Healthy: Bad food habits are one of the main reasons of bad breath. A bad digestive system manifests as bad breath and so eating healthy is very important for healthy gums. Adequate water, fiber, calcium and Vitamin C are essential for gum health, so ensure they find a place in your diet.

4. Annual Dental Visits: Visit your dentist once in 6 months. Simple procedures that do not require time or money like regular scaling will help improve the teeth and gum health while reduce bad breath issues.

I am suffering from mandibular tori in my lower jaw and I think it becomes large in size in one side .
What should I ...
Normally tori do not need treatment unless they are interfering with function of the bite or the tongue movements. Usually you can leave it alone. Unless the size is changing over time. This may indicate some kind of underlying tumour that would need to be checked.

Flossing is as important as brushing on a daily basis. Taking the floss all the way down to the point where the teeth and gums meet is the appropriate way of doing it.
