Exercises for Sciatic Pain From Piriformis Syndrome

Exercises for Sciatic Pain From Piriformis Syndrome

Exercises for Sciatic pain from Piriformis Syndrome
Sciatica is a symptom. It consists of leg pain, which might feel like a bad leg cramp, or it can be excruciating, shooting pain that makes standing or sitting nearly impossible.

The pain might be worse when you sit, sneeze, or cough. Sciatica can occur suddenly or it can develop gradually.

Symptoms:

  • Pain in the rear or leg that is worse when sitting
  • Burning or tingling down the leg
  • Weakness, numbness, or difficulty moving the leg or foot
  • A constant pain on one side of the rear
  • A shooting pain that makes it difficult to stand up

Sciatica usually affects only one side of the lower body. Often, the pain extends from the lower back all the way through the back of the thigh and down through the leg. Depending on where the sciatic nerve is affected, the pain may also extend to the foot or toes.

For some people, the pain from sciatica can be severe and debilitating might include the inability to bend your knee or move your foot and toes.. For others, the sciatica pain might be infrequent and irritating, but has the potential to get worse.

Causes of Sciatic Pain:

  • Slipped Disc: In majority of cases sciatica is caused by a herniated or "slipped" disc. This is when one of the discs that sit between the bones of the spine (the vertebrae) is damaged and presses on the nerves.
  • Spondylolisthesis (a condition in which one vertebra slips forward over another one)
  • Other causes include spinal stenosis (narrowing of the nerve passages in the spine), a spinal injury or infection, or a growth within the spine (such as a tumor).
  • Other things that may make your back pain worse include being overweight, not exercising regularly, wearing high heels, or sleeping on a mattress that is too soft.
  • Piriformis Syndrome: It is referred as neuritis of branches of the sciatic nerve caused by pressure of an injured or irritated piriformis muscle. Symptoms associated with piriformis syndrome typically consist of buttock pain that radiates into the hip, posterior aspect of the thigh, and the proximal portion of the lower leg.
  • Piriformis syndrome typically does not result in neurological deficits such as decreased deep tendon reflexes and myotomal weakness.

Diagnosis:
Sciatica is diagnosed with a medical history and physical exam. Sometimes X-rays and other tests such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are done to help find the cause of the sciatica.

  • X-ray- to look for fractures in the spine
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) scan - to create images of the structures of the back
  • Nerve conduction velocity studies/electromyography - to examine how well electrical impulses travel through the sciatic nerve
  • Myelogram using dye injected between the vertebrae - to determine if a vertebra or disc is causing the pain

Treatment:
Primary treatment consists of self-care and non-surgical strategies. The aim is to correct the underlying problem, restore function and prevent re-occurrence.

  • Self-Care: Sciatica may resolve with rest, ice or heat, massage, pain relievers and gentle stretches. Muscle inflammation and pain can be reduced by application of an icepack for 20 minutes several times a day during the initial 2-3 days. Thereafter a hot pad may be applied to relax muscles. If the self-care exercises aren’t working within the first couple of days you must consult your doctor.
  • Medication: Over the counter Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can bring pain relief. Muscle relaxants may be prescribed for spasms.
  • Physiotherapy: A normal schedule is recommended physical therapy can help you return to full activity as soon as possible and prevent re-injury. Physiotherapists will show you proper lifting techniques / postures, walking techniques, exercises to stretch and strengthen your back muscles.
  • Massage, ultrasound, diathermy, heat and traction may also be recommended for some time.

Facts on Psoriasis

What Is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a skin disease that causes scaling and inflammation (pain, swelling, heat, and redness). Skin cells grow deep in the skin and slowly rise to the surface. This process is called cell turnover, and it takes about a month. With psoriasis, it can happen in just a few days because the cells rise too fast and pile up on the surface.

Most psoriasis causes patches of thick, red skin with silvery scales. These patches can itch or feel sore. They are often found on the elbows, knees, other parts of the legs, scalp, lower back, face, palms, and soles of the feet. But they can show up other places such as fingernails, toenails, genitals, and inside the mouth.

Who Gets Psoriasis?

Anyone can get psoriasis, but it occurs more often in adults. In many cases, there is a family history of psoriasis. Certain genes have been linked to the disease. Men and women get psoriasis at about the same rate.

What Causes Psoriasis?

Psoriasis begins in the immune system, mainly with a type of white blood cell called a T cell. T cells help protect the body against infection and disease. With psoriasis, T cells are put into action by mistake. They become so active that they set off other immune responses. This leads to swelling and fast turnover of skin cells. People with psoriasis may notice that sometimes the skin gets better and sometimes it gets worse. Things that can cause the skin to get worse include:

  • Infections
  • Stress
  • Changes in weather that dry the skin
  • Certain medicines.

How Is Psoriasis Diagnosed?

Psoriasis can be hard to diagnose because it can look like other skin diseases. The doctor might need to look at a small skin sample under a microscope. For appointments call 9004839333.Clinics at Malad,Juhu and Bandra in Mumbai.

How Is Psoriasis Treated?

Treatment depends on:

  • How serious the disease is
  • The size of the psoriasis patches
  • The type of psoriasis
  • How the patient reacts to certain treatments

It might be normal. But you have to take good care of your body and mind so that you do not indulge in anything with impulsiveness. Hope you will strike a balance between your work and personal development by utilising time and energy in healthy habits. Eat healthy food, exercise everyday and sleep properly at the same time ( 6-8 hrs). By doing these your overall health including sexual health will improve. Go for a routine checkup with a doctor regularly so that you can take all the precautions on time.

Headache: Sinusitis

Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO), DNB (ENT)

Headache: Sinusitis

Patients having chronic nasal problems along with sinusitis often complains of headache.
They most of the time describe the headache as throbbing pain in the cheek bones, over nasal bridge and over the forehead. Which sometimes exacerbates after sudden change in position or straining.
These headaches can be confused with the migraine and hence complete examination and determining the cause of headache is very necessary.
Now what exactly leads to sinus headache. It is the sinus infection or the nasal infection or the allergy leading to congestion in the nose and the draining pathways of the sinuses causing accumulation of the fluid. This fluid in turn causes pressure and inflammation of sinuses, leading to headache.
Sometimes this fluid can get secondarily infected and then patient may experience fever, body pain etc.
Treatment for this headache is just relieve the congestion of nose and form a patent channel for the sinus fluid to drain.
This will include medications like antibiotics, antihistamines, decongestant, nasal local decongestants. Steroid sprays etc. The treatment is tailor made according to the symptoms.
Home remedies include inhaling the steam.
The bottom line is to differentiate the headache cause complete examination and sometimes investigations like ctscan or x-rays are also required and hence we should get ourselves completely evaluated and then start the medication.

I am 24 years old. I don’t smoke. I don’t consume alcohol. I exercise 2 -3 days in the week at the gym for 1 hour daily. I drink tea 1-2 times a day. I have a penis that is 4.3 inches in length while erect. I had the habit of masturbation for the past 6 years. I am not married and I have not had sex with anyone. My first problem is I used to masturbate 7-10 times in a month. But for the past one year I have reduced the masturbation to 5 times a month. Sometimes I lie on my stomach with my erect penis on bed or on the spongy towel spread on the floor and rub myself on the towel and with 2-3 strokes I ejaculate. Sometimes I used to ejaculate 3 times a day. last week while bathing I soaped my penis for 5 seconds and I ejaculated immediately. I am scared that I am suffering from premature ejaculation. My second problem is I have the habit of watching porn regularly/frequently for at least 1-2 hours in 4-5 days in a week. Sometimes I used to masturbate while watching porn. I have a habit of watching Porn in my underwear or naked. For the past one year when I start getting an erection the erection rubs across my underwear’s waistband 2 or 3 times and I ejaculate. I am unable to stop watching porn. I have erotic dreams every night. Some nights when I lie on my stomach I rub my penis and I ejaculate in my sleep unconsciously. I heard that watching porn can cause erectile dysfunction. I am scared because my parents want to get me married between 25-26 years. I am scared that I will not be able to satisfy my future partner and I fear that I will suffer from erectile dysfunction caused due to watching porn. Whenever I talk or think about porn I get an erection. I have the habit of reading online sex stories daily and playing online sex games once in awhile. About 5 months I found that I ejaculate within 20-30 seconds of starting masturbation. So in order to increase my sexual stamina I started practising the start and stop technique of masturbation. I have practised it for the past five days and I have prevented ejaculation while practising i.e. I did not ejaculate at all. I did not cum during the start and stop technique. After the practice I feel a pain in my pelvic region or in my balls. So please suggest a solution to increase my penis size and sexual stamina.

On corner of my upper lips there are two cuts and that patch is become so hard and it's paining. I can't open my mouth because then it will get stretch now please suggest me something because day by day it's increasing.

MBBS
General Physician, Hyderabad
What you are experiencing is cald Cheilitis meaning dry, crack lips specially in the corner of the mouth. If it is red and swollen and painful I would recommend an antibacterial cream Soframicin to be applied 3-4 times a day only to the affected area for a possible infection. Also Vitamin C deficiency can lead to this drying of lip. Limcee is Vit C chewable tablets to be taken daily 1-2 tablet a day. If the swelling, pain continues despite this you might need to take a consultation. Try and moisturize your lips as frequently as possible. Once you start this treatment you will see changes in approx 2-3 days. Hope this helps.

Is doing physical exercise can solve the my problem of premature ejaculation which happened due to the habit of daily masturbation?

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
Is doing physical exercise can solve the my problem of premature ejaculation which happened due to the habit of daily...
MAsturbation is not cause for PE. Physical exercise will not solve PE too. Premature ejaculation is uncontrolled ejaculation either before or shortly after sexual penetration or foreplay. It happens with minimal sexual stimulation and before the person wishes. It may result in unsatisfactory sex for both partners. This can increase the anxiety that may add to the problem. It is one of the most common forms of male sexual dysfunction. It has probably affected every man at some point in his life. Most cases of premature ejaculation do not have a clear cause. With sexual experience and age, men often learn to delay orgasm. Psychological factors such as anxiety, guilt, or depression can also cause it. In some cases, it may be related to a medical cause such as hormonal problems, injury, or a side effect of certain medicines. Consult a psychiatrist Your doctor will discuss your medical and sexual history with you. He or she will do a thorough physical exam. Your doctor may want to talk to your partner also. Premature ejaculation can have many causes. So your doctor may order lab tests to rule out any other medical problem. In many cases premature ejaculation gets better on its own over time. Treatment may not be needed. Practicing relaxation techniques or using distraction methods may help you delay ejaculation. Your doctor may recommend that you and your partner practice certain techniques to help delay ejaculation, as well as medications are there to help. All the best.

If it does not get better then get it examined by a doctor. Keep gargling with salt water daily 3-4 times. Avoid chilled water or oily food. Have more fruits and soups. Revert back after the that. You can take Homeopathy if it does not get better.

I have a headache. I took medicine then it down but after 30 mnts again it starts. What is its reason?

DM - Neurology
Neurologist,
I have a headache. I took medicine then it down but after 30 mnts again it starts. What is its reason?
Headaches can recur based on certain reasons. Migraine headaches can respond very well initially, but over time, some changes take place in the nerves, which is called Central pain sensitization of the Trigeminovascular network. That may be a big term, but what it means is that headache beget more headaches. In the process of headache attacks, blood vessels play an important role, and some drugs act by modifying the changes in the blood vessels. Specifically, these drugs are called Triptans, and they cause vasoconstriction - and they are the MOST effective treatment for an acute attack of migraine. Unfortunately, they have a duration of action - some of them act for 4 - 6 hours and some for 12 - 24 hours. The drugs available in India have shorter duration of action. So if you are taking one of the triptans - for example sumatriptan or rizatriptan, you may find that the effect wears of in a few hours - the actual relief can be even shorter than that - and the remedy is firstly to take a drug with a longer duration of action - for example Naratriptan - which is currently not available in India. Another reason is that another analgesic may have a similar limitation. Third could be that the medicine is not effective at all, and that your migraine is just waxing and waning in its attack. One remedy would be to take prophylactic treatment - where you take medicines everyday irrespective whether you have an attack or not with the intent of preventing an attack.

Is cold water not good for health? What is the side effects and benefits of cold water.

Nutrition - Management of Weight & Lifestyle Related Disorders

Is cold water not good for health? What is the side effects and benefits of cold water.
When you drink cold beverages, your blood vessels shrink, your digestion becomes restricted, and hydration is hindered. Instead of working to digest the food and absorb the nutrients to create energy, your body expends energy to regulate your temperature. Drinking cold water after a meal creates excess mucus in your body, which can lead to a decrease in the immune system function, making it easier to catch cold and other illnesses. If you eat food while drinking cold beverages or immediately after, the water temperature solidifies fats from the foods you’ve just eaten, and the body in turn finds it hard to digest the unwanted fats from your body. Try to take water at room temperature.

I have been masturbating regularly daily once from last many years. Will it effect my health or is it normal. Will it decrease my sperm. Thank-you very much.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

I have been masturbating regularly daily once from last many years. Will it effect my health or is it normal. Will it...
If you overdo the masturbation, the sperm count will reduce temporarily. Masturbation is not really bad; it is the addiction to it that is bad. Not even the number of years is a problem but the frequency and compulsiveness to do it is to be considered for its ill-effects. At your age you may feel it difficult and it can become addictive if you have alone time, if you obsess about it, and if you are not into relationships. The problem with addiction to this is that you may go on to prefer masturbation to heterosexual contact, even when you are married. That obviously would be an insult to your wife and will lead to a lot of conflict. Heterosexual contact is very wholesome and the physiology is made exactly for penile and vaginal contact. You will instead enjoy a poor replica of this and not know or care for the difference. The second thing that can happen with addiction is that it will become compulsive and will have no boundaries or limits, since it can be done all by yourself, whenever, wherever, and however too. The big problem a lot of children get into is the guilt around this. A useful way to discharge the energy is to get into contact games, or exercises, or even hobbies to channelize it. Also you should not spend too much time alone, and you need to keep your mind occupied with other interesting things and a lot of socializing. Even if you are not interested in marriage, for whatever reasons, it will help you to get into a friendship with a girl and enjoy the relationship where there will be a lot of excitement when you fall in love. Right now your hormones may be very active and your physiological apparatus is primed and ready for sexual stimulation. But because of your age and even otherwise it is important to develop good control and not feed into your impulses. Keeping yourself occupied and living a healthy social life are the keys to manage your sexual drives.
