Do you know that 100 litres of purified water are used for each dialysis session? This water needs to be of very high purity. Otherwise the patient can be harmed and can lead to serious infections and even heart disease. At Dharma Kidney Care we use "Ultrapure" water for dialysis which is one of the purest forms of water on the planet.

Chronic Kidney Disease - Understanding The Stages!

DM - Nephrology, MD-Medicine, MBBS
Nephrologist, Delhi
Chronic Kidney Disease - Understanding The Stages!

Chronic kidney disease is categorized under various stages and your doctor will periodically assess the severity of kidney damage. Thankfully, the good news is that kidney disease progresses slowly and early detection will help to deter further complications.

How stages of Chronic Kidney Disease are Determined?
The stages are determined by glomerular filtration rate or GFR that measures kidney function. The glomerular filtration rate is a calculation that estimates how well the blood is filtered by the kidneys. It is usually calculated using a formula that takes into account the individual’s age, gender, race and serum creatinine levels. The lower the GFR, the worse the kidney function and more the damage.

Five Stages of Chronic Kidney Disease
The National Kidney Foundation has created a guideline for nephrologists to help identify the severity of kidney damage and provide the right care accordingly. Each stage calls for different tests and treatments:

Stage  Description GFR What Can Be Done
Stage 1 Early kidney damage 90 or above The exact cause of the kidney disease will be determined by your doctor. Your blood pressure and sugar levels are to be constantly watched out for. Opt for a kidney-friendly diet.
Stage 2 Mild kidney damage 60 to 89 Continuously monitor your condition and check how quickly the disease is progressing. Manage high blood pressure and diabetes.
Stage 3 Moderate kidney damage 30 to 59 Any complications like anemia, bone disease will be checked and treatment will be administered by your doctor
Stage 4 Greater kidney damage 15 to 29 Continue treatment and monitoring. If you are progressing towards kidney failure, consult the best treatment options you have based on your condition
Stage 5 Kidney failure Below 15 Start dialysis, consider kidney transplant and choose the right treatment

How is Chronic Kidney Disease Treated?
The first step is to determine the cause of the disease and then take the right measures to alleviate it. In most cases diabetes and high blood pressure are the prime reasons. So, simple lifestyle changes can help to prevent the progression of the disease and reduce your symptoms. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Follow a diet that is easy on your kidneys: Watch your protein and sodium intake. Drink the right amount of fluids and incorporate super foods that will not deter your kidney function
  2. Weight ManagementMake exercise a routine part and find the right exercise program that works for you. The more active you are, the lesser health problems you will have
  3. Avoid tobacco, smoking and alcohol

The first four stages of chronic disease focus on preserving the kidney function for as long as possible. The stages will help you analyze where you stand and what can be done to prevent kidney failure.

Hi there most of the time urine flow slow down in kidney stones and urinary tract infections. I would suggest you to go to nephrologist or urologist for further investigation of the disease and treatment. He might suggest investigating tests like ultrasound, x ray, urine examination and other tests as per requirement. Drink water more and more.

My dear friend, uti is more common in female due to short urethra length. So try to avoid public toilets. Maintain your cleanliness. Whenever you go public toilets, always pass urine with flowing water. You should push flash, then pass urine. Hope this will help you.

There can be many causes of urinary incontinence, only one of which is urinary tract infection. My suggestion would be not to continue Taxim-O any further. Instead try and search for the cause of the incontinence. A lower abdomen usg should be helpful for that. Contact me anytime if you need my help.

Can Lifestyle Changes Help Prevent Prostate Cancer?

MBBS, MS - General Surgery, M.Ch - Urology
Urologist, Bangalore
Can Lifestyle Changes Help Prevent Prostate Cancer?

One of the most significant glands in the male reproductive system is the prostate gland, which is responsible for carrying urine from the bladder. It is located right under the bladder and helps in production of semen which contains sperm.

Prostate cancer is a slow growing form of cancer that is rarely seen in men below the age of 50. It may occur due to both, genetic and environmental factors. Here is a list of measures that can help in preventing this ailment.

  1. Food Intake and Weight: Apart from age, the major factor that contributes to the risk of prostate cancer includes food and weight. Doctors suggest that bringing down your intake of calcium and fat that comes from red meat and excess dairy can help in preventing the onset of this ailment. The calcium intake should not go beyond 1,500 mg per day, which is why doctors will usually ask you not to have supplements. Cooked tomatoes with olive oil as well as cruciferous vegetables including broccoli and cauliflower should be included as a vital part of one's diet, while fish should be taken regularly as it is a source of healthy or good fat like Omega-3 fatty acids. In general, you should have fewer calories which should be matched up with ample exercise so that a healthy weight and balance is maintained.

  2. Stress and Blood Pressure: Stress and anxiety are also major reasons that contribute to the onset of this disease. One will need to see a doctor about high blood pressure, especially the kind that is triggered by stress and causes hypertension. Also, you must control your cholesterol and stay out of depression to ensure that your risk of developing prostate cancer reduces. Also, having these conditions along with prostate cancer makes the survival chances that much lower. So, you must get the right medication and treatment for these conditions as well.

  3. Lifestyle: One will need to quit smoking, that can cause a number of ailments including prostate cancer. Also, drinking alcohol in moderation is required in order to have a healthier lifestyle and cut the chances of developing such ailments.

  4. Screening: While your diet and other aspects may be right, there is still a great chance of developing prostate cancer, especially if anyone in your family has been afflicted with this condition in the past. Therefore, it is recommended to get an annual screening done so that you eliminate the chances of finding it out late, and can check the growth of any anomalies as soon as they take place. Getting regular checks ups done and getting diagnosed for the problem when the earliest symptoms begin to show are both crucial for prostate cancer. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Urologist.

In kidney stone problem, you will suffer from urine problems while in gas problem, you will suffer from constipation or problem related to stool. In case of kidney stone, urine discolouration is very common with burning micturation or urine incontinance. While in gas problem, extra blotting stomach, more flatus or constipation common. Hope this will help you. Both can be treated completely with herbal drugs without any side effects.

The symptoms of anal fissure can be relieved by wheatgrass which, although you may not know it, has quite remarkable pain-relieving and healing properties. You may not need to change your diet, drink gallons of water, use stool softeners or load your bowel with fibre.
