Could Your Mood Swings Be Cyclothymia?

Could Your Mood Swings Be Cyclothymia?

Could Your Mood Swings Be Cyclothymia?

Cyclothymia is a type of a mood disorder which is relatively light or mild in nature. If you are suffering from this condition, then you will experience extreme mood swings for very short periods of time. During these mood swings, you may experience a low period (depressed mood) or a high period when you are extremely happy.

Identification

There is no set or structured pattern for the highs and lows that you will experience during this condition. This feature of the disease makes it more difficult to detect and diagnose. The duration of your mood swings usually last just for a few days but can also be extended up to a few weeks. So, the only sign of identifying this medical condition is that if you are not having a normal mood for an extended period of time then you should consult a specialist doctor to enquire more about the condition.

Symptoms

Though there are no special symptoms of this disorder, the usual signs of mild depression and hypomania can be a possible symptom of Cyclothymia.

Some of them are:

- Hypomanic symptoms
- Racing thoughts
- Minimal sleep
- Excessive talking
- Extreme optimism

- Raised self-esteem
- Being happy without any reason

Depressive symptoms

- Hopelessness
- Unnecessary fear
- Restlessness
- Fatigue
- Concentration difficulties
- Abnormal weight changes

Remedy

The mood swings that you experience during this situation do not get better with time or vanish automatically. So it is always desirable that you seek some medical assistance from a specialist doctor on seeing the symptoms of either hypomania or depression.

Complications

This does not always hold true but you might also start to experience suicidal thoughts if you also have a bipolar I or II disorder along with cyclothymia. So, if any such thoughts appear in your mind, then you should seek immediate medical assistance.

'Consult'.

Hi lybrate-user! No it is just a temporary memory loss only, just wait for a week or so, keep a close watch about the incidents day to day important ones, try to recollect, if you r able to then your perfectly fine, if not you can consult with a Physician for the same. Did you get any hurt or injury on your head. What kind of depression you were suffering from, is that during the period of depression you are npt able to recollect. Actually you were on deperession and so soon after recovering, your memory is also slowly recovering back to normal reality, this may be the cause, so it is better to wait and watch before jumping into different reasons. Take care.

Relaxing the body Do yoga. You can get books and videos to do at home or take a yoga class. Try progressive muscle relaxation. Take a walk or do some other activity. Get a massage or have someone give you a back rub. Have a warm drink that doesn't have alcohol or caffeine in it, such as herbal tea or warm milk. Exercise Whether it’s yoga, Tai Chi or running, exercise works much in the same way as meditation because it gives you the time to be alone with your thoughts (or an opportunity to let them go). However, exercise also has the added benefit of releasing endorphins into the brain, which improves your mood. It also prevents obesity and other health problems, giving you less to be stressed about.

Hello Friend, Good that you are seeking a help here. Just be aware that medicine are just one part of any psychic treatment as they help in controlling or suppressing the emotions. However, the actual root cause or triggers i.e the anxious or worrying thoughts are still unattended and without managing them, symptoms will repeat if medicine are stopped. Similarly depressive emotion and continuous intake of medicines impairs the appetite and digestive system which results in weight gain and other side effects. So it's better to adopt a non-medicine treatment plan in parallel with medicine to control or manage the thoughts using few mindsets changes techniques or psychotherapy along with few lifestyle changes, excersise, dietary changes. Also family members plays a major role in the recover process for such suitations. Feel free to reach me online for further evaluation to recommend suitable alternatives solution and counseling support to manage depression as well as weight loss through natural methods. Be positive. You will she will be alright soon.

Repetitive tasks, intrusive and repetitive thoughts, checking, counting, disproportionate excess need for order and cleanliness, as well as anxiety when not able to do the same are signs of obsessive compulsive disorder. Patients with OCD suffer from significant distress, anxiety and depression due to the same which impairs their quality of life. Please consult a Psychiatrist at the earliest. With a combination of medication and behavioral therapy it is likely that the symptoms will improve.

Ocd query: I can not change anything in my room. Everything has to be in their respective places. Even I can not change the fused bulb of the room. I simply can not tolerate the distress associated with any change in room. Does changing something in my room and delaying putting in its position will help? Will delaying it again help? How does this delaying way help in ocd?

How to Know if You Have Depression?

Sexologist Clinic
Sexologist, Faridabad
How to Know if You Have Depression?

Pay attention to your emotions and moods. Depression is a medical condition that prevents the brain from regulating its emotions. Everyone feels down occasionally, but people suffering from depression frequently experience certain emotions or a combination of them. If you experience these emotions, or if they prevent you from functioning in your everyday life, then it is important to seek help. Some emotions you might feel if you are depressed include:

  • Sadness. Are you often sad or low-spirited?
  • Emptiness or numbness. Do you feel as though you have no emotions at all, or have trouble feeling anything?
  • Hopelessness. Have you felt tempted to "give up", or had trouble imagining any improvement? Have you become more of a pessimist since you began suspecting depression?
  • Guilt. Do you often feel guilty for little or no reason? Do these feelings stay with you and interfere with your ability to concentrate or enjoy yourself?
  • Worthlessness. Do you have a low sense of self-worth?
  • Irritability. Have you been snapping at people or getting into arguments without good reason? A short temper is another example of a mood change sometimes caused by depression, especially among men and teenagers.
  • Low energy. Do you often feel tired, unable to perform routine tasks or concentrate, and prone to avoiding active motion?
  • Indecisiveness. Do you have difficulty making minor decisions? Does attempting to make decisions make you feel overwhelmed and hopeless?

Watch for a desire to withdraw or isolate from friends and family. People who suffer from depression often stop spending time with friends, or lose interest in other things they used to enjoy. This is because they have a desire to isolate themselves or withdraw from their usual activities. Consider your desire to withdraw or isolate from people and how your social life and daily activities have changed in the past few months or over the past year.

  • Make a list of the activities you regularly participated in before you started feeling worse, and estimate how often you did each one. Over the next couple weeks, make a note whenever you do one of these activities and see if your rate has significantly decreased.

Identify any suicidal thoughts. If you have thought about hurting yourself or even killing yourself, then it is important to seek immediate medical attention. Call emergency services right away, such as by dialing 911 in the US. Some other indications of suicidal tendencies include:

  • Fantasizing about hurting or killing yourself.
  • Giving away belongings and/or putting your affairs in order.
  • Saying a final goodbye to people.
  • Feeling like you are trapped or that there is no hope.
  • Saying or thinking things like, “I would be better off dead,” or “People would be happier without me around.”
  • Making a quick transition from feeling hopeless and depressed to feeling happy and calm.
