There is a myth among many people that removal of the upper teeth affects vision. This is a misconception. Vision is not affected in any way by undertaking treatment of the upper teeth including its extraction.

Hello doctor I am 21 Year student I have some problems about teeth. There is yellow teeth And the teeth are bleeding....
Cause of discoloration ? Smoking, coffee, tea, drugs, aging, staining food (wine, blueberry, etc) genetics. Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need 1. Deep cleaning along with surgical, gum strengthening procedure . Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash after every meals. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. 2. whitening (bleaching) procedures and / or artificial enamel filling. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Use Snowdent tooth paste for whitening until then. Apply SNOWDENT paste on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min Then brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight for better results. You may consult me in person. . DENTAL TIPS: - Visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay.Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush

The Silent Signs of Gum Disease

MDS , BDS
Dentist, Delhi
The Silent Signs of Gum Disease

Overall oral health consists of health of both the soft and the hard tissues in the mouth. While teeth are the hard tissues, the soft tissues include the lips, tongue, cheek, palate, and most importantly the gums. The gums or the periodontium (perio - around, dont - tooth) surrounds the tooth and provides nutritional support and structural support with its connective tissue. The gums are the unsung heroes in maintaining a healthy set of teeth.

It is common observation that dental decay is more attended to than gum disease.  The symptoms associated with decay, be it discoloration, food lodgment, sensitivity, and sometimes pain are a lot more demanding.

The bad news is that the same bacteria have a harmful effect on the gums too. The good news is that gum disease also (like tooth decay), takes time to develop. The bacteria in the mouth and the plaque are the main initiators of gum disease too. It is more innocuous and not immediately attended to, sometime even gets ignored for years until it become severe and mandates treatment. Certain medical conditions like pregnancy, diabetes, stroke, etc., lead to greater severity of the gum disease.

Chronic gum or periodontal disease, if left untreated, can even lead to multiple tooth loss and require dentures much earlier than required. It is not difficult to diagnose gum disease as the symptoms are quite easy to identify, including

  • Red, swollen, or painful gums:  As with any infection, redness and swelling and pain are the first symptoms of gum disease too.
  • Spontaneous bleeding of gums: The gums can look spongy and puffed and can sometimes bleed without even a touch
  • Chronic bad breath: The bacteria are constantly acting on the food debris to produce acid, leading to a bad breath (halitosis)
  • Pressure on the gums can produce pus: Cumulative infection can lead to gingival abscess
  • Bad taste in the mouth: If there is an abscess, it will discharge pus into the mouth, leading to this metallic taste
  • Gingival recession, where the tooth appears to have grown longer. The gum line recedes from its original place, exposing more of the tooth.  This also causes greater sensitivity, especially to hot or cold foods
  • Slight loosening of the teeth (in severe cases) as the fibers loosen their hold around the tooth.
  • Painful chewing, it puts extra pressure on the fibers of the periodontium.

Some people are more prone for gum disease than others. The risk factors include smoking, increased
female hormones, and chronic illnesses like diabetes and cancer.

Management: Regular visits to the dentist can help identify these at an early stage and manage both progression and severity. Additionally, managing risk factors like smoking and chronic illnesses also is helpful.

Rather than seeking for a medication show it to a oral and maxillofacial surgeon or a head and neck oncologist.

Kind of toothbrush to be used by adults: We recommend a brush with soft bristles which helps in removing the plaque and debris thoroughly from the mouth.

I have three fully impacted wisdom teeth. But they are not infected. From last 6 months I have jaw, throat, ear, tongue & tooth pains. Meanwhile I suffered from throat infection which was due to Enterobacter clocae. I have also reactive lymphnodes in neck. Can impacted wisdom teeth cause all such symptoms?

Certified Implantologist, BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
Hello lybrate-user, wisdom teeth do cause pain in and around teeth and this pain is often referred to jaw, throat and ear. If these wisdom teeth are always causing discomfort and aren't helpfull in biting or chewing food then I would suggest you to go for an intentional extraction of these teeth. I am sure you'll be much more comfortable after it.

I am suffering from heavy headache with gum bleeding please suggest me what should I do.
hello lybrate user, gum bleeding could be due to vitamin deficiency, or use of hard brush, etc; have healthy diet, add more fruits in diet, avoid certain food which aggravates headache. avoid stress. take homeopathic for headache and gum bleeding. it is safe, natural and holistic way of treatment. homeopathic medicines like Natrum, spige etc are highly effective in headache complaints. chronic type of headache needs constitutional treatment where medicine is selected on the basis of thorough details like medical history, routine, causes, temperament etc; such well selected remedy gives complete relief and cure without side effects. you can consult to me online. message back for proper homeopathic consultation. take care.

Mouth ulcers are self limiting, which means they heal naturally by themselves. To ease the pain you cud by a topical anaesthetic gel and apply it before eating anything spicy. Please do not self prescribe any medications as it might at times delay the healing of the ulcer. Try to reduce the stress, avoid carbonated drinks, and citrus fruits and juices containing citric acid, avoid lemon with food and keep yourself hydrated.

Take out only when most tooth structure has broken. If I go by your symptoms I can save with a filling.
