There is no medicine for stammering as its not a disease. Stammering is psychogenic in most of the cases. See a speech therapist.

Stammering is speech pathology and needs to be treated by speech therapist. Treatment of stammering is coordination between you and speech therapist and needs your utmost cooperation. Bleeding from nose usually is curable and you may need cauterization of bleeding point.

Speaking situations which are in your comfort zone, you will not face a problem. But when you are stepping out from your comfort zone stammering happens. This happens to all. But problem arise when you fail to cope with the situation. So you need to strengthen your coping mechanism. Speech therapy will help.

If your father is having left vocal cord paralysis, investigations should be done to know the cause. If no cause is found ( idiopathic) one can hope for recovery with voice therapy within 1 to 3 months. Oral steroids may be tried.

My age age is 22. I have problem of stammering. So help me to came out this problem.

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
Stammering is typically recognised by a tense struggle to get words out. This makes it different from the normal non-fluency we all experience which includes hesitations and repetitions. Commonly it involves repeating or prolonging sounds or words, or getting stuck without any sound (silent blocking). Sometimes people put in extra sounds or words. Often people lose eye contact. Some people who stammer talk their way round difficult words so that you may not realise they stammer at all. This avoidance of words, and avoidance of speaking in some or many situations, is an important aspect of stammering. Stammering varies tremendously from person to person and is highly variable for the person who stammers who may be fluent one minute and struggling to speak the next. Get an mri brain and eeg with a psychiatrist evaluation.

Gargling with warm salt water is an effective way to treat a sore throat. Salt can even help kill the bacteria or virus causing pharyngitis. 1. Mix three teaspoons of salt (preferably sea salt) in two cups of warm water. 2. Gargle with this solution. Do not swallow it. Spit the water out after gargling. 3. Do this several times daily for one to two days.

Dear lybrate user, welcome to lybrate. Stammering is" speaking with sudden involuntary pauses and a tendency to repeat the initial letters of words" or" say something with difficulty, repeating the initial letters of words and with sudden involuntary pauses" stammering could be due to two reasons. First reason is vocal cord misalignment. Second is psychological performance anxiety. First of all you should consult an ent specialist and evaluate your vocal chords. If there is problem, ent specialist will be able to correct it. If there is no problem with your vocal chords, the best option is stammer therapy. Take care.

Yes you are right this two are connected. From your duration of disease and symptoms it looks like you might be suffering from ch. Rhinosinusitis. If you have already used medications and not improving then we should go for ct scan of nose & pns. So please get it done.

Other people talking is not yoru problem: you say that people's observation is that you speak loudly. It is definitely coming from your own hearing loss whereby you have not accurate feedback mechanism to know your volume and to make necessary corrections. Now that you know about this is it possible to speak in a volume that is less audible to you but that you know it is sufficient to the hearing level of the other people. With time and practice you will be able to master this technique.

It's a very comman problem. You need to practice at home with your friends, and go ahead. Just do it once and the fear will disappear. It's not a speech problem.

Sir when I trying to say something I fell stammering I take suggestion by physiatristAnd also done speech therapy but my problem not solve. What should I do?

M.Phill
Psychologist, Chennai
Let your mind relax- anxiety or nervousness is one of the major causes of stammering. Through proper relaxation this problem can be easily solved. When you are requiired to speak up and make people listen to what you have to say, give yourself a few minutes to clear your mind. It doesn't matter how long it takes to clear your mind. Once the mind has already reached the optimum state of relaxation, next step is to think positive thoughts. Think only positive thoughts and do not worry that you are going to stutter. This in itself is a great cure which will give you an inner confidence whenever you need to communicate. Think about someone you feel comfortable talking with. Start talking softly. Visualize thoughts and word. Read out loud. Slow down your speed of speech. Do relaxation and breathing exercises.
