Paralysis - How Ayurveda Can Help You Treat It!

The temporary inability to move one’s own limbs or speak is known as paralysis. Paralysis is triggered by problems with the body’s nervous system and affects the functioning of muscles all over the body. This condition can affect a single limb, the right or left side of the body, or the complete body. A paralytic attack is often caused by a stroke or damage in the nervous system. It can also be caused by exposure to radiation or toxins, autoimmune diseases, tumours and spinal cord trauma. Recovery from a paralytic attack depends on the causes and the extent of the injury that triggered it. With some types of paralysis, partial or even complete, recovery is possible.

Ayurveda is an alternative system of medicine that can be quite effective when it comes to treating paralysis. Ayurveda has negligible side effects and hence can be used to treat adults and children alike. This system of medication does not look only at the physical symptoms but also the mental and spiritual well-being of the patient as well. Some ways to treat paralysis with Ayurveda are as follows:

  1. Vata-pacifying diet: Eat light meals that are easily digestible and pick warm foods over cold food. Avoid barley, rye and millet and include plenty of vegetables like asparagus, beets, okra and carrots in your diet. Also avoid bitter and pungent flavours, but pick food that is sweet, sour or salty to balance the body’s vata.
  2. Ayurvedic massage: Warm herbal oils are sued for Ayurvedic massages. These oils and the action of massaging them into the skin have a number of health benefits associated with it, including the treatment of paralytic attacks. Some Ayurvedic massages that could be beneficial to paralysed patients are abhyanga Ayurvedic massages, padabhyanga and pizhichil.
  3. Medication: Along with lifestyle changes, Ayurvedic medication also plays a role in the treatment of paralysis. Some popular Ayurvedic remedies for paralysis are rasnadi quath, medicated castor oil, pippali mula, vatavidhwamsana rasa, chopcheeni churna, ashwagandha churna, brihat vatachintamani rasa, ashwagandha churna and rasaraja. While some of these medicines are to be taken orally, others may need to be administered through the nostrils as part of nasyam Ayurvedic treatments and others via an enema as part of sneha vasti. Drinking 20–40 ml of radish oil twice a day and a mixture of black pepper powder, sunti and honey is also said to be beneficial in treating paralysis. However, one must keep in mind that recovery from paralysis is very slow and hence patience is a must. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ayurveda.

Hi Team, now a days I am suffering from back pain. It is really aching and I m facing problem to bent, to get up etc. Kindly give suggestion what can I do for this?

Hi Team, now a days I am suffering from back pain. It is really aching and I m facing problem to bent, to get up etc....
Hello. Maintain a right standing and sitting posture, keep your back always straight, avoid carrying weight on back. Hold or carry weight divided equally in both the hands or shoulders (to avoid over straining on one particular hand or shoulder). Exercise: Practice Shavasana or Corpse Pose as it looks like a dead body. If practiced correctly and with full efforts, can relax every body part, relaxing not only the body but also the mind: Spread the legs one to two feet apart, the toes are turned outwards, the heels facing each other, a comfortable distance apart. Bring the arms a little away from the body, palms turned upward. Relax the neck and allow it to turn to the side if it is more comfortable. Close the eyes and focus the attention on the body, breathing normally. Management: -Stretching or activities that place additional strain on the back are discouraged. -Sleeping with a pillow between the knees while lying on one side may increase comfort. -Lying on your back with a pillow under your knees would also relieves pain and no pillow under your head. -Some people seem to benefit from the use of ice or heat. Take care, do not use a heating pad on ‘high’ or place ice directly on the skin. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicines - Arnica 200 and Rhus Tox. 200 - take both of them thrice daily for 1 week. Also, apply Schwabe's Topi-Arnica and Topi MP Gel on the affected area in circular motions gently thrice a day. Get back to me thereafter.

I am having an unusual pain at back please tell me how can I get rid of this soon please tell me fast.
few things for your back pain: - Apply Ice and Heat Heating pads and cold packs can comfort tender trunks. Most doctors recommend using ice for the first 48 hours after an injury -- particularly if there is swelling — and then switching to heat. You can use whichever you find comforting as long as your skin is protected. - Limit Bed Rest Studies show that people with short-term low-back pain who rest feel more pain and have a harder time with daily tasks than those who stay active. -Keep Exercising Activity is often the best medicine for back pain. Simple exercises like walking can be very helpful. But remember to move in moderation, Stay away from strenuous activities like gardening and avoid whatever motion caused the pain in the first place. -Maintain Good Posture Most people have poor posture when going about their daily activities, putting unnecessary strain on their backs. -Strengthen Your Core Most people with chronic back pain would benefit from stronger abdominal muscles. If the abdominals are weak, other areas must pick up the slack. When we strengthen the abdominals, it often reduces the strain on the lower back. - Improve Flexibility Too much tension and tightness can cause back pain. By increasing flexibility you need to put an equal load throughout the body from the feet all the way up to the head. -Sleep the Right Way The amount of rest you get is important, and so is the position you get it in. Sleeping in a bad position or on a mattress without support can cause back pain. Back sleepers should put pillows under their knees. Side sleepers should place pillows between their knees to keep their spine in a neutral position. Stomach sleeping causes the neck and head to twist and can put undue stress on the back. -Use Relaxation Techniques Research shows that practices such as meditation, deep breathing and yoga, which help put the mind at rest, can do wonders for the back. -See a Specialist Developing an individualized exercise plan is essential to managing chronic back pain. Some patients need more core strengthening while others benefit mainly from stretching and improving flexibility. Please consult a Orthopedic Physiotherapist for the right exercise plan. Best wishes.

My mother, aged 58, is overweight (120 kg). She is suffering from knee pains. The doctors advice for replacing knees. While she is overweight, how many chances r there for successful knee replacement operation?

My mother, aged 58, is overweight (120 kg). She is suffering from knee pains. The doctors advice for replacing knees....
Hello lybrate user knee pain due to obesity is a common major problem. Because hip, knee &ankle joints are weight bearing joints and knee is most movable joint during household works or other physical activities. Mostly due to adapted sedentary life style physical workout like cycling, walking &running are not part of our daily routine. She must try to reduce weight by some sitting position exercise, take high fiber diet, add salad or juicy fruits in diet, plenty of water intake, etc. Don't afraid from surgery" surgery" means patient become independent and pain-free joints, easy to perform her/his daily living activities. Before surgery ankle&hip joints exercises to improve strength of joints, knee joints too, especially flexor and extensor muscle exercises to increase muscle power regular for two months. Then surgery will be successful. After surgery regular one month exercises of knee joint will help to relax the muscle and increase efficiency.

Dear user. You are a sports person and you should perfectly know how to do those exercises and swimming and jogging etc. If you do those without guidance, you are prone to be in problem. In fact, there will not be any problems like you have complained. But you can approach a coach for required guidance. Help from your physiotherapist will also help you. Take care.

When your heel starts to hurt, even walking can be difficult and incredibly painful.

The American Podiatric Medical Association says possible causes of heel pain include:

Heel spurs, which are bony growths that develop on the heel.
Inflammation of the fascia, known as plantar fasciitis.
Excessive pronation, or inward tilt of the foot as you walk.
Achilles tendinitis, in which the tendon at the back of the foot becomes inflamed.
A deformity, injury or chronic disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis.

I have bow legs. With surgery will it b corrected completely? n what are the complications if I opt to go for surgery.
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. We will actually have to evaluate you as in the cause of your bow legs, also we need to know the difference in the lengths of the two limbs, for which I will need your full length x rays and a ct scannogram for evaluation. Also if you are in the delhi ncr region, it will be advisable if you can come for a physical examination so that I can see and advise you accordingly. Complications depend upon what surgery has been decided in your case so it is difficult for me to generalize potential complications associated with it. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.
