Hi Sir, My 3 years old grandson is hyperactive, speaking level is like 2 years old. His parents are living 700 KM away and visiting twice a month during week end. He loves me very much than his parents. We give him Enfogrow, Pediasure, Nano, Ceregrow, etc. He likes chapathi. He wants comforts like AC, Foam Mattress, etc. Somebody should accompany him always. His eye contact is good as per psychiatrist observation, who could not confirm autism. He plays with dogs, hens, etc. He operates TV, mobile efficiently. He knows the procedure how to drive car. He is interested in operating remote toy cars and JCB. He will not answer easily. If we ask roughly, he will obey. He took OT and Speech Therapy under one psychiatrist. Now he is studying PreKG. He is not sitting in a place. He don't get tired easily. Pl advise what should I do to make him to sit and hear others and speak with other children?

There are several things that need to change in a systematic manner. Like simple things like have a schedule a time-table so that he knows what time he gets up and what time he sleeps should be the same. Stop using any kinds of screens tablets t.v's, mobile phones all of them completely. Do not leave him unattended i.e; someone should always be involved with him in what he is doing and keep talking to him. A visual schedule can be introduced. (it can be found on amazon.com). Try enrolling him for swimming or music class along with continuing speech therapy and occupational therapy. Get him evaluated with a clinical psychologists.

Hairloss: An Epidemic

MBBS, DHMS-Harvard, Masters in Clinical Dermatology
Dermatologist, Chandigarh
Hairloss: An Epidemic

Hair loss can affect just your scalp or your entire body. Most people normally shed 50 to 100 hairs a day. This usually doesn't cause noticeable thinning of scalp hair because new hair is growing in at the same time. Hair loss occurs when this cycle of hair growth and shedding is disrupted or when the hair follicle is destroyed and replaced with scar tissue.

The exact cause of hair loss may not be fully understood, but it's usually related to one or more of the following factors:

  • Family history (heredity)
  • Hormonal changes
  • Medical conditions
  • Medications

Family history (heredity)

The most common cause of hair loss is a hereditary condition called male-pattern baldness or female-pattern baldness. It usually occurs gradually and in predictable patterns — a receding hairline and bald spots in men and thinning hair in women.

Heredity also affects the age at which you begin to lose hair, the rate of hair loss and the extent of baldness. Pattern baldness is most common in men and can begin as early as puberty. This type of hair loss may involve both hair thinning and miniaturization (hair becomes soft, fine and short).

Hormonal changes and medical conditions

A variety of conditions can cause hair loss, including:

  • Hormonal changes. Hormonal changes and imbalances can cause temporary hair loss. This could be due to pregnancy, childbirth or the onset of menopause. Hormone levels are also affected by the thyroid gland, so thyroid problems may cause hair loss.
  • Patchy hair loss. This type of nonscarring hair loss is called alopecia areata (al-o-PEE-she-uh ar-e-A-tuh). It occurs when the body's immune system attacks hair follicles — causing sudden hair loss that leaves smooth, roundish bald patches on the skin.
  • Scalp infections. Infections, such as ringworm, can invade the hair and skin of your scalp, leading to scaly patches and hair loss. Once infections are treated, hair generally grows back.
  • Other skin disorders. Diseases that cause scarring alopecia may result in permanent loss at the scarred areas. These conditions include lichen planus, some types of lupus and sarcoidosis.
  • Hair-pulling disorder. This condition, also called trichotillomania (trik-o-til-o-MAY-nee-uh), causes people to have an irresistible urge to pull out their hair, whether it's from the scalp, the eyebrows or other areas of the body.

Medications

Hair loss can be caused by drugs used for cancer, arthritis, depression, heart problems, high blood pressure and birth control. Intake of too much vitamin A may cause hair loss as well.

Other causes of hair loss

Hair loss can also result from:

  • Radiation therapy to the head. The hair may not grow back the same as it was before.
  • A trigger event. Many people experience a general thinning of hair several months after a physical or emotional shock. This type of hair loss is temporary. Examples of trigger events include sudden or excessive weight loss, a high fever, surgery, or a death in the family.
  • Certain hairstyles and treatments. Excessive hairstyling or hairstyles that pull your hair tight, such as pigtails or cornrows, can cause traction alopecia. Hot oil hair treatments and permanents can cause inflammation of hair follicles that leads to hair loss. If scarring occurs, hair loss could be permanent.

A number of factors can increase your risk of hair loss, including:

  • Family history
  • Age
  • Poor nutrition
  • Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes and lupus
  • Stress

You can stop or even reverse hair loss with aggressive treatment, especially if it’s due to an underlying medical condition. Hereditary hair loss may be more difficult to treat, but certain procedures such as hair transplants can help reduce the appearance of baldness. Talk to your doctor to explore all your options to lessen the effects of hair loss.

Please give her Rhus tox 200 - thrice daily for next 3-4 days (4 pills each time). Also look for if there is any swelling/discoloration of skin/eruption - as the treatment would vary based on the same.

Do not stop breast feeding. Your child is absolutely normal and does not require any medication. This condition is called breast milk diarrhea. This is very normal that child who is on exclusive breast feeding may pass 10 times motion per day. You need to consult your pediatrician only when there is blood in stool. If your child is alert active playful accepting mothers milk and gaining weight 20 to 30 gms a day you need not worry about. Please continue exclusive mothers milk for first 6 months. No medical intervention is required. Best wishes.

And this has happened to me before also like few years back where I was also exhausted while working (some work related stress) The problem is whenever it happen I feel some sort of panic attack like whats happening and all and feel restlessness. I quick had a Electrolyte drink and had it while chill water and after some time it went away. But I am irritated that whenever I work like that it happens to me so I am basically looking for one time solution to this.
